Sorry to be a bummer, but the entire company is pretty unorganized. It’s a shame, given the fact that some staff are really pleasant to work with. However the pros do not outweigh the cons, at all... The cheap owners never really give much incentive - for how hard they expect you to work and sell. You could very well get top sales in the entire company for the year, and barely get recognized for it. Your efforts are pretty much wasted here. 

Also if you enjoy having rights as a human and an employee, probably not the place for you. They blatantly break labour laws (especially regarding breaks) and will just phase you out if you bring it to their attention. They don’t seem to have any intention on improving their work environment anytime soon, where as it keeps happening time and time again..

The petty drama in this specific location is enevitable, where as it stems from management getting frustrated with staff, and then venting to everyone instead of actually fixing any issues 1 on 1. They don’t seem to take any issues seriously, which ends up making you feel really unvalued. When the district managers come for store visits, it really doesn’t seem like much happens then either. The in-store management just keep getting away with being super passive aggressive towards staff. I didn’t feel as though it was my responsibility to ensure management was in a “good mood” in order to feel comfortable talking to them during my shift. This was a daily occurrence. 

Hanging out with customers was normally quite fun, some of the staff were really cool, and the discount was good compared to some other places (minus the fact that you’re basically obligated to buy an entire new wardrobe to “rep” the company - which adds up trust me) However, I personally would not work there again unless some drastic changes were made!

Anyway best of luck, hopefully you find somewhere that appreciates you on a daily basis! Xo

I have worked many part time jobs in various provinces throughout my life and I can honestly say that Pseudio in the Avalon Mall is the worst store I have ever had the displeasure of working for. I do not recommend this job to anyone. Do not apply here at any cost. The management has little to no respect for their employees. Management bullies part time staff, especially students, and genuinely makes their time working at Pseudio a nightmare. Favoritism is undoubtedly a factor between management and sales associates. The ones deemed the “favorites” will have a pleasurable experience whilst the “rejects” (being the majority) will be miserable each and every shift. I can honestly say I cried on the way to work, and on the way home after almost every shift. I felt alienated from my first shift there,and would have left much earlier had another job opportunity come up. If you are booked during “busy” days such as Black Friday, 20% off day, etc. please expect to be given insufficient breaks that are concealed by them not allowing you to punch out until your shift is finished. If a problem arises between yourself and a member of management, expect to be ignored. The problem will not be dealt with, and will therefore continue to cause you stress. If you are a student, expect to be given a 30-40 hour work week despite your request for less hours, due to the fact that this company cares more about profit than your well-being. This company operates using unrealistic sales goals (without commission) which have caused many unhealthy rifts between sales associates due to an excessively competitive environment. If you do not perform to their “standard”, expect to get laid off before somebody with several months less experience than you. This company is a disappointment, and does not deserve to be in business.

I worked for this store as an assistant manager for a little under a year and a half. I have many years of retail experience and this was by far the best company I have worked for.

I loved that my manager included me on almost all decisions made for the store, as we were allowed to create our own visual changes and request our own stock which fit to our particular customers for each store location. Focus was on customer service and being "personal shoppers" for the customers.

All staff was required to reach their own sales goals which were a bit intimidating. It was a small store in a mall which was continually losing stores so  slow customer traffic was always an issue; if there wasn't enough customers then it was harder to make sales goals. Managers will work with associates to improve their skills and learn, part timers are never left to "wing it".

My part time staff was amazing, they all worked very hard to reach their goals and were upbeat and fun. It was very laid back and we all worked amazingly well as a team. We had company contests as well as a budget for our own store contests that we could create each month, which made for some fun competition!

I loved our products; Pseudio always tried to carry local brands from around the maritimes, as well as popular designer names.I was proud to sell the clothing. However, because it was pricey, I could only afford it because of my (awesome) discount.

The only reason I left was because I changed provinces. Highly recommended, but the store is quite choosy on who they hire; so if you do apply make sure you act professional and dress nicely.

With over 15 Years in Retail and Retail management with foundations in the cosmetology industry. I have finally found my home! I have worked with this amazing and ever growing company for seven years, Started as a key holder and with the help of coworkers, mentors ,dedication and hard work I am currently overseeing / supporting seven locations. Coming from an entrepreneurial family I do not necessarily have to work " for someone else" But rather prefer to be here, as we can run our stores as we "own" them. The culture is absolutely different from most retailers as you have 100% control over your growth and success with Pseudio based off individual drive, passion and efforts. Coworkers in my experience have been just as passionate and dedicated as myself from head office to store level the vibe is very similar.. hard working and dedicated ! While a want/Need for personal growth, Independence and a business owner mind set would be asset for most management to excel within the company. I have never lacked support in any of my roles while on my journey with Pseudio, From other store managers to the very "top of the ladder". So nice to be a name and not an employee number. I have always felt my hard work was encouraged, noticed, and compensated for.
Work and personal life balance was always just right for me and if anything was needed out of the norm I have witnessed nothing but compassion and willingness to further support. In closing I believe this is a great company to grow with. From Stylist positions to Management the development is here if the passion is. As all places of employment - It may not be for you. But will always be grateful for my employment here and excited for more growth in the years to come !!!

I left a stable job for a position at the head office for Pseudio. I know it sounds cool, but trust me, this job is NOT what you think it's going to be.

 This place is completely chaotic and disorganized. Everyone is completely maxed out because they expect their employees to meet unreasonable workloads in record-breaking time. The environment is tense and uncomfortable. 

I signed a contract stating I would be working 40 hours a week on salary but within 2 weeks it became clear I was expected to work 60 hours while getting paid for 40. This includes working from home on evenings and weekends. If my salary hadn't have been an actual hilarious joke, this would be understandable, but they want to get away with working you into the ground and paying you the equivalent of minimum wage for university education positions. 

Benefits are a joke. You only get two sick days a YEAR...so yeah, better whip your body into shape and make sure you don't get the flu. Oh yeah, and say goodbye to your lunch break...it doesn't happen here. 

Inadequate set-up and equipment made it hard to complete work up to their impossible standards, but somehow everything's still your fault. Add on a lack of regular scheduled meetings, a negative workplace culture, and petty, demeaning management, and you've got yourself a real nightmare. 

I was warned about this company before I started and I didn't listen. Keep looking...there's so much better out there for your skill level. You don't deserve the stress.

I was hired at Pseudio at the age of 15 and worked there consistently for 4 1/2 years and it was the best retail job for myself, who was a middle school/high school student at the time. The staff was very welcoming, caring and loving from the beginning of my time there, to the end. 
My manager welcomed me with open arms and took me under her wing to train me to be the best employee I could be. She saw that I had a great mindset for merchandising & displays and trained me to focus on this for our store when she was travelling. I became a key holder at the age of 16, and the social media ambassador for our store location, and kept both titles until I left. 
My store location had amazing staff, who treated everyone like family. It was never just about making our sale goal for the day, it was about building long-lasting connections with the customers and constantly working on and improving ourselves to be not only a sales associate, but a friendly face to all the customers who walked into the store.
I highly recommend anyone who has/hasn't worked retail to work at Pseudio. It is a great way to increase your social and communication skills by talking to customers, but also creating relationships with your team. I have nothing but great things to say about this company! 

Head office is very slow paced when it comes to technology/benefits/vacation/sick time (you get two days..for the year...then the rest gets taken from your vacation time so don't get sick!! ) The head office is very unorganized and not cohesive at all with policys. Upper management is extremely cliquey and you have to have a certain "look" to be able to work there or it won't work out. They will promise you the world and tell you how great you are. Job security is not a thing at PSEUDIO. If you don't perform/ if they don't like you they will demote you or try to get you out through written warnings for things you didn't even know you could get written up for. I have never worked for such a dis organized company and let me tell you....its not something you can come in and fix. I honestly can't see this company even making it another ten years, unless H/O starts getting there act together and makes appropriate changes and adheres to actual NOVA SCOTIA labour laws. PS. you only have a half hour break each day ( 9 hour shift ) and if you are working an event day you are expected to work a 12 hour shift.  I loved some of the co workers and I loved the discount. Everything else was just not up to par with other retail companies.

I have worked for this company for over 4 years. Pseudio is a great place to work because of the culture behind it and the professional management team. I have worked at many other retail stores and by far this was the most competitive, fast paced, but exciting business to work for. I have read some of the other reviews on this page and quite frankly I am shocked by what I have read. I believe if you are not motivated, lazy, and have a poor work ethic, then business or any job in general is not meant for you and of course you will have a negative standpoint on this company as they are a highly motivated team and all about making the customer feel special and at home. 

There are many incentives to work and in my 4 years of working at Pseudio I received 2 raises and lots of free clothes especially around holidays and special calendar events. 

I personally have seen employees start from the bottom and get promoted to Head Office in a matter of 4 years which in my opinion is un heard of in a retail like environment. 

Pseudio is simply the “place to be” and is not only just a job but a career. 

I worked at Pseudio for a couple years and I couldn't recommend it more! The management is extremely helpful and wants to see you succeed. They helped expand my knowledge on all the products and brands we carried in store, and helped me improve my customer service skills. Working at Pseudio brought me out of my shell, helped me talk to new people, and made me feel really welcome.

There are sales goals, but that just makes every shift even more motivating, and the other co-workers are extremely friendly and are always willing to help you with anything. The team is super interactive and works together to ensure all needs of the customers are met.

There is also a great employee discount and if you are eager there are always opportunities for growth within the company too.

My co-workers and managers are like older sisters to me now, and it was always such a positive, productive, and fun atmosphere!

Stay away from head office. There is absolutely no job security (no matter how long you have been employed). They regularly let go of long time employees to replace with new hires who they can pay less. They have a high turnover rate. There is no room for advancement and no raises. The owners/upper management play favorites and the whole office is very high school clique like. I've witnessed many employees talk behind other's backs about their appearance, personality, etc. Very disorganized company and pin blame on people who don't deserve it. Income and benefits are a joke, you only receive 2 sick days per year and anything used past that comes from vacation or is unpaid (and don't use too many or you'll be spoken to). Owners are old school and seem stuck in their ways. I think some departments are probably slightly better than others, but overall it isn't a positive place to work.
