I got hired at the Public Health Agency of Canada from a work training of the University and after 2 months they extended my contract and worked for a few months more.
The team I worked with was excellent.
My day would start from 8am until 4pm. I would answer calls, book meeting, book flights,hotel,car rentals that was necessary.
I would do some research for my supervisor, print/fax documents.
Joining meeting to write minutes and type them afterwards to give copies to the staff. 
The hardest thing would be working with the contracts, because I did a few of them but I wished I learned more from them because they were interesting. they had to be approved by a few people and making sure there was no mistake in spelling.  

I enjoyed working with my team, they were friendly and very professional.

I enjoyed working from my desk and seeing a very nice view of Halifax too, it makes you very motivated to work for your day and feeling very confident and a good start of the day.

I really enjoyed working there and would love to be able to work there again one day.

Days were flexible. My work hours were 7AM - 3PM.
I took training in various required courses (Acquisition Card and Reconciliation, Expense Management Tool (TEMT), Delegation of Financial Signing Authorities for Cost Centre Managers and Cost Centre Administrators, SAP Materials Management – Purchasing, MECS, Travel Arranger - Travel AcXess Management)
Was able to take on additional responsibilities which benefited me to move around the department where help was required.  Colleagues were very friendly, very human. 
Hardest part of the job:  When personal issues arose with colleagues (death from terminal illnesses, news of those affected from massive layoff). 
Obtained long-term friendships with colleagues.

teamwork is highly outstanding, and the research funding is also abundant.
1. you can learn almost everything you want here as all the people are friendly.
2. The management is also highly organised, which make everyone know their duty and improve our teamwork.
3. Everyone are so hard working which will produce stress, but there are always some activities in festival to relax!
4. The hardest part is as an international student, I cannot enter into bio-safety level 4 lab, but some parts of my project need to be done in BSL4 lab.
5. The most enjoyable thing is everyone in group is so nice and friendly. If they have time, they will try their best to help you! That's really helpful when I first came to the lab.

I am not happy there  i have phd and I am doing a job of diploma  and it is slavery. People are not ftiendly and they show no respect to me. I think , because I am white ?? There are lots of reading and documentation that not all of them seems reasonable for job. They dont like to talk to you and just  hi and bye. The work is not match with my knowledeg  and skill. The supervisor  does not appriciate my hard work. I know i am doing every thing well and stay late to accomplish my job but it seems, it is not enough . I am looking for molecular biology work . I was hired for molecular microbiology work but instead they put me  in the me  in the media preparations  position . It is 1 year term , which is really not my dream job . I am looking for better and permanent job .

I was busy checking correspondence action requests and responding to the ADM office.
I also checked all responses and formatted them, did the quality assurance before I sent them to the ADMO.

I learned to work under pressure and to have attention to details.

As for the management, I am not part of the management team. My managers are fine.

The workplace culture is something we all work on as all of us must work in a sane and safe environment.

The hardest part of the job is to get all Programs respond on time as we must meet deadlines.

The most enjoyable part of the job is that you deal with people and especially with professional people.

The Public Health Agency of Canada is an excellent organization to work for in many respects. However, I eventually got bored and frustrated with the general lack of initiative in my department and I similarly haven't experienced any career growth in years now. Ultimately, the experience one has while working for the Government of Canada will for better or worse be closely connected to their immediate manager. Management in the federal public service has a tremendous impact on people's job satisfaction.

I have worked at one section at PHAC for a short period. I have never experience that type of bullying. A lady with a social worker background, who published a lot of articles on child abuse and maltreatment, was intimidating, lacked empathy, and quite rude. She appears charming in the beginning. But she is a bully if you work under her especially if you are not unionized. I have worked at another PHAC place before, and I had good experience, but not with the Child Maltreatment Section. I found another Government position where I was treated with respect unlike at PHAC. There needs to be intervention on workplace harassment on this section. The management is not doing anything.

This was an excellent place for me to work and I worked here over a three year time period. The people were great and I learnt a lot. However, due to the Federal government budget cuts, jobs for terms, contractors, and students were negatively impacted and the lay-off negatively impacted the positions of the terms employees, contractors, and students first, before any unionized employees were touched.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Field work. Working with other agencies.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Working with nurses, doing the exact same work but paid less and never having an opportunity for advancement.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It was terrible. Culture was back stabbing and political. Nepotism runs rampant and getting paid is an extreme exercise. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Starting at 7:00 and fielding calls for the next 10 hours.

I would like to join PHAC anytime. It was an experience which I am waiting to get another time. The typical day was getting briefing from your supervisor about the days work to be completed.
I loved the researched experience I did as a data analyst. The colleagues were extremely respectful and friendly. No tough experience I received on the job at PHAC.
