I was working warehouse as a contractor. I was lucky to have a amazing supervisor who taught us what to do and put the rest in our hands. 
From day one the work was rather relaxed, as long as you work hard at what you do. I know that sounds contradictory, but the atmosphere allowed for you to take your time at what you were doing, unless a deadline to move things from storage was tight. 

Overall I learned a lot about warehousing, especially when it came to Tetris skills. There was a lot of instances where I was working not only in the warehouse but setting things up on floors, staying late to do projects and doing computer work as well.

The nicest part of the job was the freedom of working in the warehouse and the potential to work on various projects in the company. 
For my position one of the best parts was the hour long lunch.

One of the hardest parts of the job was.... the security. To be honestly fair, the WHIMS could really be updated as the warehouses were very old, dangerously setup and the merchandise you are moving is packed with dust, mold and sometimes worse. I can understand as there are many times where things will not be moved for years at a time, but you have to have your own sense of self security working in warehousing. This is fundamental in this job. 

Management is great depending on who you are working under. The only issues I can really say about being a contractor for PSPC is the fact that you are getting paid not even half of what regular employees are and doing two times the amount of physical work. I feel like this is relevant for all contract work, but make sure you are not selling yourself short for the skills companies would rather hire expendable people for. And remember that in their eyes, you ARE expendable. It's a sad thing to say, but also true. The first to be let go when anything becomes too tough is always contractors. 

One thing I will say, and perhaps it's due to myself not being used to a office setting, is the way you interact with people through email can be very annoying. You will send a email talking about a upcoming move or project that needs to be responded to that day and will wait for days and days for a response when the person in question is sitting three desks from you. I don't know if that's a office only rule or something,  but people got upset when I would just go ask them directly. I don't know, offices are strange. 

Overall if you are hired through contractor, I think it's a enjoyable place to work. I would go back and work there again as long as I was with the same team as I was before. The only issue is the pay for the amount of work you do, the initial job security and the health issues that arise when working warehouse. 

I obtained my first offer in August 2018 after a very good process: successful at test,screening and interview-after about nine years and hundreds of tests. My first manager saw my high school diploma and what CCIC demanded for recognition and phoned me that no positions were available any more. I contacted a deputy minister and he sent me to a Quebec born manager, recently promoted as she married another favorite friend of the director. Micromanaging on me and chatting with everybody else was...my training survival for three months. Every word I said was reported in writing to the director and the ombudsman said I was disruptive when trying to say that my manger was extremely rude with me and providing me with false, wrong or hiding data so I fail when timing my performance in the first 3 months! I was fired in first week of January, in my 4th month of probation with false reports on my performance evaluation, equivalent to :not capable of anything. Thank you for destroying my life of non-born in Quebec nor in Canada-citizen. Who will pick me up from the pool where I sank? Nobody called me for deployment. Thank you!

Fair pay ample family time, and the opportunity to learn and better yourself 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
It can get stressful during weather events, also it’s hard at times because ones personal perspective  differs at times from Ottawa’s but you have to adure to what they expect,  like the COVID pandemic for an example .

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It was good but when I worked there , they had a manager that had issues with some employees that were not handled well at times when this happened it made for an awkward and tense atmosphere 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Was pretty good, typical day was 25% office/computer stuff n 75% field work, learning was encouraged and most people were friendly and helpful

While process and policy guides most of your work, you also have the opportunity to innovate and be creative in developing improvements to tools, processes and operational efficiency.

Great experience and great team! Had the chance to learn a lot. 
-	I work as part of the SIGMA (Solutions d’affaires en gestion du matériel).
-	The tasks are related to two projects: 
1.	GcDocs -Bring the saved files to the tool. 
2.	BI reports - Review existing relationships between SAP and BI
-	Participate in the preparation, documentation and realization of test scenario in the financial system.
-	Plan meetings with stakeholders
-	Produce research about the project (guides, best practices, references, experiment tools, discover features)
-	Create a work plan (objective, tasks to be performed, estimated time)
-	Provide a weekly summary of the progress of the project
-	Document the methodology
-	Assisting colleagues in researching and gathering information on technical documents, policies, business processes and on the operation of the SAP application

A mixed bag in this department. Has a reputation for attracting Type A individuals, which likely contributes to an influx of individuals who view themselves as Type A personalities. 

In actuality, a lot of diversity in terms of personalities, but certain branches in the department do have a less-than-stellar reputation within the federal government family. 

Fairly standard government work culture overall.

With some luck you will have a great supervisor with a lot of experience and an interesting background (maybe international). 

Enjoyable part of the job includes access to a great network and some of the more interesting case files in government.

I worked at PSPC during the summer term between May and August. Overall, I found it was a great environment to learn about various server related languages and software and I enjoyed my time there as I was surrounded by quality co-workers who were able to provide me guidance and help whenever I needed it. Management was great at consistently giving me engaging and challenging tasks which allowed me to grow and a programmer and communicator.

Teams work in silos and lack the social component. At work, I feel like a robot who is there to do his job and get paid.

Non-social culture. You are there to do your job and get paid.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
boring. they think that chatting all the time makes them social.

If you have worked in an office before then you will find the work environment pretty typical. Before COVID it was an open office with everyone assigned a desk and work station.  That was back in 2016, it may have changed significantly since then.  Your co-workers are friendly and as long as you maintain a friendly professional attitude are more than willing to assist you if needed.
