I rated this 3/5 stars mostly because this restaurant more or less wasted my time as an employee. I was let go, with little to no explanation given by management. I was given a bunch of arbitrary reasons (which couldn't be explained, as the manager who fired me didn't work the floor), and minor things that I observed other staff doing regularly without much reprocussion or any discipline. I found it rather unprofessional, given I've been working many local restaurants for years. Not shocking to have a clique like restaurant; I would have expected that the member of management who isisted I be terminated for arbitrary nonsense, you know, actually be the one to deliver said termination to me themselves, but again, not shocking as I stated above. Observed inconsistent enforcement of food waste and plating. Hypocritical at times, but not surprising in this industry. I felt that it was a huge waste of time; given I turned down a few other promising jobs for this one. Disappointing behavior. 

Kitchen is ridiculously clean, which is impressive. Does require a lot of maintaining. Overall, most of management is professional, respectful and is willing to work with concerns and requests within reason, and behaves as such. It's a heavily descentralized management though; if you want or need accommodation you'll have to relay messages through a loose chain of command sometimes, it can be annoying at times.

Food is simple breakfast stuff. Easy to make. Easy to learn. Not much to it. Food quality is fairly good.  The staff is friendly. Coworkers are very friendly and helpful; although they tend to clash with management numerous times a week over petty disagreements (I've observed coworkers arguing without much reason, I've also observed certain management overly picking at one or two workers over minor stuff in rather "toxic" tones and sentences). There's certainly a lack of cohesion between coworkers sometimes. Wouldn't say they pick favorites though.

Day shift hours were nice. Requesting more hours can be a hassle somedays. Senior employees tend to hold the most hours. Be prepared to be cut to save labour costs on slow days. Trying to take a Saturday or Sunday off is challenging as it's peak business days. If you're looking for full-time hours, you won't get that here. Nor is there much overtime hours either. Be prepared for chaotic weekends as the weekends are a disorganized mess at times and other times somewhat less chaotic; but always busy. 

My experience with this place felt lacking and I was left feeling jerked around/my time wasted. It's a shame, as I was excited about working for this company. I certainly have a differing opinion after my short time there. Overall the place has flaws; like any job (mostly interpersonal management stuff), not the worst job I've had. 

After being fired for unfair reasons, I cannot recommend working here.

So many times I complained to management about how the line cooks, hosts and servers were doing things that greatly impacted my performance at my job. To several managers, I had made multiple complaints and did all I could to adjust, and all they could tell me was that I was not keeping up to "business standards", essentially implying they don't care enough to do anything about it.

It's okay for people to stand around and chit chat or be on their phones while I'm all by myself working in the back, but as soon as I ask for help for even so much as simply needing to make sure plates don't fall, it's just "I can't help you". Everything falls on deaf ears. Turnover rate at my location is high for a reason. You are not supported.

Admittedly there were some issues myself that I caused which I accept full responsibility for such as physical health concerns, but beyond all that, people walking extremely slow and affecting my ability to keep pace with the job's standards is just one of many examples that lead to my downfall and why I feel it was unjustified. Other people feeling the need to be socializing and getting in the way of my work area is apparently my fault. 

There was no support at the end, it was like they gave up, and any time I try to bring up an issue, whether I was sick, or needed to be transparent about some kind of issues, the management just seemed to feel annoyed or push it off on to someone else.

The only positive thing I can say is that even when I was sick and got my free meal, they didn't hound me for having one if I didn't stay my whole shift, and were keenly aware I stayed as long as I could. I will say that they aren't big sticklers when it comes to needing to be micromanaged in certain aspects, but beyond all that, it's ridiculous how much they expect out of one person when 15 others can barely be bothered to help. Time to move on to something better.

Being told "this will be noted to help in future" does not help me now, and it's the cheapest cop out to a firing that I've ever heard. Do better. That's all I can say.

I wouldn't recommend working here at all. The owner and management had terrible communication with their employees. A situation happened where I changed my availability and needed to accomodate to my class schedule. Most of the change was shifting my days off per week, so I still had a good amount of days for them to work with, all of a sudden without notice I wasn't being scheduled at all the following week. I had a chat with the owner about needing at least one or 2 shifts a week. I tried covering someone's shift for the week and was refused permission. I went and had a conversation with the manager and cleared any misunderstandings. I then tried to cover the same shift again and later received an email of termination. This unprofessional & non-communicative behaviour came to a complete surprise to me when I was told that I was doing very well and I should keep up the good work. 

But on top of that we were occasionally penalized for making mistakes and felt like they didn't trust us. I didn't feel like I was able to freely and safely communicate with management, afraid that I might get fired.

Unprofessional management makes it difficult to work here. There is favouritism, so don't expect on getting enough shifts when theres people who they favourite &/or have "deals" with. 
It's an amateur operation in terms of management, they just "wing" things and hope for the best.  They fight customers when they find a hair in the food, make the server go back and fourth on a busy day just to end up offering them 10% off the dish. Thats how you make people never come back. If one plate comes out 25 minutes after all the rest of the plates in a party of 6, and you tell the manager (ie. cook) that they're upset, she'll tell you she's upset too and that they should go to Jolibee. Not people who are in any way knowledgable about the restaurant industry. Most of the people are great/nice, but there are some people who will sabotage you. Owner is MIA. They cover their own behinds, when they make mistakes. They'll blame you in the end to save themselves.  In the end they do not care about your employment. They treat you like family, until suddenly they don't. Sad. 

Working as a host at Pur & Simple has been a truly rewarding experience. From day one, I felt welcomed by a warm and supportive team that values both professionalism and fun. The environment is upbeat and inviting—not just for guests but also for staff. The restaurant itself is bright, modern, and clean, creating a refreshing atmosphere to work in every day.

Management does a great job of setting clear expectations while also being approachable and understanding. They genuinely care about staff well-being and work-life balance. I always felt heard and appreciated, whether it was during busy brunch shifts or slower weekday mornings.

As a host, I had the opportunity to sharpen my customer service and multitasking skills. From greeting guests with a smile to managing waitlists efficiently, the role kept me engaged and always on my toes. The team dynamic is one of the strongest aspects—we all support each other, and there's a real sense of teamwork.

Overall, Pur & Simple is not just a great place to dine, but also a fantastic place to work if you value a positive, fast-paced, and respectful environment…

They basically fire staff after a few days for literally no reason. I’ve seen it now with a handful of staff. Sense of entitlement too. 
No communication between management and staff. You might have a shift one day, then for literally reason you’ll be taken off the schedule. They provide 0 training. This family owns the Waterloo location as well and another one (Kitchener I think). BEWARE of working at pur & simple!!! 
Do not work here!!! Bad new management. Micromanaging x10000%, they expect you to literally sprint around the restaurant, peer pressure all your tables to review you AND MAKE YOU LIE TO the customers and say if you get a lot of reviews then you can win a free breakfast??? Buts it’s literally untrue. They told me we wouldn’t get a free breakfast, it just “sounds good” to the customers, so that they leave reviews. They fire people left right and center for literally no reason. No employee contract to even begin with. So so unprofessional it’s concerning.

Loved my whole experience with Pur & Simple. My team was amazing and so was my boss. He understood and listened to my issues and problems and helped to fix them or explained why we could not fix them.

The food was amazing and the setup and prep was pretty well planned out for at the time a new franchise. I am certain a lot of the starting pains are worked out by now.

Pay is good for the restaurant industry and unless you hate early mornings having the time at night with family is great.

Overall you can make a decent amount of money but is a very overwhelming job.
Manager will make inappropriate comments and do whatever because the owners wouldn’t care enough to interfere. If you make a mistake or refuse to do anything, that will reflect directly on your schedule/hours. 
Once the manager gets mad, he will swear and kick/punch random stuff around him to cause a scene. 
They will expect you to do extra work or accommodate things when they need with no hesitation or questions, no incentive is provided and everything sounds very much like a threat. 

I was promised certain hours and then as soon as I was hired I was told that I needed to work different hours. I quit because the hours they wanted me to work were not doable. This was almost a month ago and I still have not been paid for the shifts I worked nor are they responding to my emails asking for my pay. Seemed like an okay job but just so disorganized and the fact employees don’t get pay on time is ridiculous.

Most disorganized, dumpster-fire of a restaurant I have ever seen in my life. Consistently fire employees with no warning at all via email, or simply by just stopping scheduling them. Managers just gossip and berate employees and offer no support. The tips are great, but would not recommend the Mount Pleasant location to my worst enemy. There are so many other brunch restaurants in the area, I beg you to please go work there instead.
