I have hesitated for months writing a review for this company, but since I’ve seen them starting to hire again, as an ex-employee, I had to at least give everyone a heads up. Here's the honest truth:

When I first joined Pure Sunfarms, the company genuinely put people first (Thanks to the previous CEO and VP of HR). The culture was collaborative, positive, and it felt like a place where employees mattered. Unfortunately, everything changed when Village Farms decided to be more involved, and a new President stepped in. Layoffs were frequent a few months before and after the new management kicked in, and the remaining employees were expected to take on significantly more work without any plans to replace those who left. When burnout was raised as a concern, leadership’s dismissive response was “first to come in, last to leave.” Empathy and compassion from the top disappeared. Company holiday parties were few and far between, yet management frequently spend mass amounts on outings, restaurants and hotel stays.

The work environment has only declined since then. Remote and Hybrid roles were taken away, even though employees still sit next to each other on Teams calls, which made the decision feel more about control than productivity. People were asked to come in the office to boost morale for other employees since managment can barely handle that. The Director of HR offers no real support to staff and appears to only protect the CEO, tellingly, about 80% of her own team has left. Salaries may look competitive on job postings, but the workload is often three times what’s reasonable. In several years at the company, I only received one salary increase, and that was after my probation to bring me up to industry standard. A raise wasn’t even considered until it became clear I was thinking about leaving.

Career development and recognition are almost nonexistent. Performance reviews are often delayed or pushed aside, and employees are encouraged to rate themselves lower. Growth opportunities are replaced with “lateral moves” to different departments paired with a small salary increase, which feels more like a tactic to keep people from leaving than a real investment in career development. Leadership frequently takes credit for the hard work of their teams while offering no acknowledgment to the people actually doing the work.

Transparency is another serious issue. Bonuses that were meant to be company-wide ended up being quietly given to a select few, with instructions not to share with others. Even small perks like swag were handed out to certain departments with the same secrecy, creating mistrust and resentment across teams. Unsurprisingly, turnover has skyrocketed. I personally witnessed entire departments hand in their notice within three to six months. Morale has been on a steady decline, and it’s clear why: employees are overworked, undervalued, and constantly watching their colleagues leave, while no changes have been made.

Pure Sunfarms once had the potential to be a great place to work, but under its current leadership, it has become toxic and unsustainable. If the CEO, President and VPs truly care about the future of this company, they need to bring back the values that made it thrive in the first place: empathy, accountability, transparency, and real investment in their people. Without change, the revolving door will keep spinning, and the culture will only continue to erode.

Leaving this company was probably the best decision I've made, I forgot what a normal workplace is like when you're stuck in that greenhouse.

Stay away from the company.  They say it's a people company but people are their last priority. Management has no process to protect employees from bad managers. People are promoted based on friendships not skills. 

People in management roles has very less experience and expectations are very high. 

They want you to do free overtime and they have very bad work environment. Some office area not even worksafe. They use agriculture industry to find loop holes to get away with worksafe requirements. 

No policy for yearly salary review. 

They fire people for no reason without any warnings. They don't think what you ho through. They won't hesitate to make you work late hours and outside your job responsibilities but will never increase your salary. 

At start you may find the offered salary is competitive but I worked there 3 years and they never did a salary review. 



Pure Sunfarms is a flexible and engaging place to work. There are many advancement opportunities and the ability to set your own path. The culture is very positive and supportive. The hours and locatin that you work are flexbile depending on the position and the startup energy is a bit addictive (but does often mean working longer hours than 40 / week if you really want to stay on top of things) However, time flies so you usually don't even notice. The fact that there is a greenhouse filled with cannabis to tour around in at any point is a bonus too.

Fairly new company with great people but upper management is too close with each other with creates double standards and favouritism. Seen a lot of great employees leave due to this and if they want to truly grow will have to be properly corrected. You can’t have all directors be best friends as when problems arise it’s hard to discipline people you see outside of work. 

I joined PSF early this year, and have never felt more at home with a company in my life! The executive team is phenomenal and extremely approachable. 

There are no egos, everyone is building this company together and all ideas are heard and thought threw. 

While work-life balance might not be a 5/5, but it is highly encouraged to not work on weekends, or at night after 6pm so that you are able to recharge. 

I would recommend working at PSF!

I am very happy with this company.my management and all team members are really good towards the employees. I never wanted to leave this job but the only reason to leave this job is that my shift hours are very early and i am not able to send my son to school.

Opportunities to grow exist.
Some recognition given.
Goal orientation is encouraged and progress is tracked. 
Loads of good intelligent creative people from an array of backgrounds. 
Good place to learn and get involved in the cannabis space 

No upwards mobility is possible as there are not enough departments, and everyone else is gunning for the same promotion. Co workers and management are very nice though and very supportive of you.

It's a new industry with too many early competitors. The leadership is adapting and learning as they navigate through these challenges. 

As an ex-employee, it was challenging and exciting to work in cannabis industry with great coworkers. 

use to be great place to work. management changed. owner is a produce company that is so out of touch. i know the cannabis industry is hard but the way village farms goes about things makes it difficult
