Pure Technologies

Shifts are 7 to 7 most days, with an hour commute before and after the shift. You get paid to work for 14 to 16 hours a day, or more depending on what goes on. Most of the day is spent in a truck, writing down pass times for pipeline tool runs. I learned a lot of time management skills, learned how to stay sane during long periods of waiting, learned how to run a crew of a few people and deal with difficult clients.
Toughest part was that I liked the job but how these guys operate leaves a lot to be desired. There were a couple of occasions that I got left high and dry for pay because jobs got "cancelled" and there was nothing else lined up for me. Really makes it hard to plan your finances when that happens. Kinda feels like you're getting burned. The people who got the "gravy" gigs were those who were some how related, or knew some of the higher ups on the food chain. If you're not liked expect some work place harassment to take place. Seen that lots, some even bragged about how they got people fired. Not a positive place to work because of the attitude some people had towards the job and other employees; really a big let down for me personally. I don't know what it's like in the office.
If you have a doctors appointment, or want to go to your kids concert and it's before a job starts you'll miss out. Trying to balance life at this job is not easy, and they make it pretty clear that if you don't "strike while the iron is hot", you get left out. Not cool for a place that claims to hire people "full time". They made it clear AFTER I got hired that they DO NOT guarantee full time hours. So really if you're not waiting by the phone for that call, then you pretty much miss out all the time.  
Management and people are ok to work with, I liked a lot of them. The people who don't make the rules felt pretty helpless to change things for the better, so I don't have any hard feelings there. There are always people that you don't get along with and, that's ok with because I feel that professionalism can go along way. Not always the case though as I found that some people would go out of their way to make your life difficult. You learn to avoid them.
The traveling around the country for different clients is lots of fun, I always liked that. The pay cheques can be really good but, very inconsistent. Sorry to say but, don't expect much as a field technician.

I've worked here for four years. Let me start with the pros:

1. Coworkers. The others working here are young and friendly.

Now the cons:

1. Well below average pay, especially if you're well educated/trained. They treat their employees as expendable, so therefore they will hire young talent that will eventually leave within 2-3 years for a better paying job.

2. No future. There's an old guard here and they're firmly entrenched in upper management positions. At best, you can expect to move into a team lead position, which is more hours and responsibility for not much more pay.

3. No learning assistance. They will spend a few days training you and that's it. There is no career advisement, no learning assistance, no encouragement to take courses or grow.

4. Middle Management. Most of the middle management (aside from the design and software groups) are grossly unfit/inadequate for their positions. They can be juvenile and and immature.

5. Upper Managment. Totally out to lunch. They hardly ever talk to lower level employees, but are happy to shout and joke aloud in the office with eachother. They're gone (vacation/days off) a lot. They are apparently unfit to cope with the growth the company has seen over the years. To increase revenue, they've cut benfits, salaries, social events, xmas parties, etc.

6. Work environment. Enjoy trying to work in a noisy, bright flourescent lit, open call centre? If so, maybe this could be a con...

7. The work itself. High expectations, little recognition.

Management is to cool so do not expect much about that. They will hire you as FULL TIME but basically they will pay you as PART TIME. If you work at this hiring location, ONLY the PURE TECHNOLOGIES people are allow to work there as FULL Time, you will just to check equipment from Edmonton then you have to  go home as they will not pay you 8 hrs every day just only for the work done.

If you work for the Integrity Area basically you will have to buy your own boots, and equipment. They only provide you one pair of gloves, coverall, and safety glasses. If you work from Tracking  deftly you will need to buy a good pair of shoes (snow and rain) walk in swamps etc.

Per Diem will be around $51 dollars and NO COMPANY CREDIT CARD, so YOU WILL NEED TO PAY EVERYTHING from your pocket and they will pay you but It will be until your next pay check and if you need your money before this time THEY WILL NOT PAY YOU. Even you are paying hotels, fuel and company stuff with your money THEY WILL NOT CARE.

They will offer you from $20 to 25 dollars an hour even if you have experience or attend school. If they promise you to do an employee review after 3 months, it will not happen.

My work day was full of a variety of tasks. I wore 12 hats. I did everything from reception to major event planning and assisting the executives, and everything in between.

I greatly increased my verbal and written communication skills, to deal effectively with people from all walks of life, and I learned to be a little more patient.  

The very upper management of this company is outstanding. I have the highest of respect for them on all levels and my co-workers are fantastic. There is so much talent in that company it's amazing, and I made some very good friends.

The hardest part of the job was sitting at the front desk trying to do effective work with constant interruptions, and having to adhere to specific hours each day, with the little flexibility that comes with front desk roles. 

The most enjoyable part of my job was the people I worked for and with. I also enjoyed the variety of tasks, working with documents (composing, formatting and editing) and the event planning.

The company is really cheap, paying as little money as they can to train you. Also, you will be out for three weeks living in the hotel room without a kitchen, because they claimed that with 51 bucks per diem(used to be 50 bucks the year I joined, finally they realized how cheap they were), you should be eating out and spend that money!
There’s no work and life balance. on your days off, you don’t get paid, only thing you can do is to sit and wait for their call. You will be home for a month making no money when it’s slow. 
If you’re really desperate for a job, go for it, but good luck with that.

This place is a joke! Do not work here. They hire you, but it's just an "old boys club" you can go up to 3 weeks without going on a job. Yea, you don't get paid. Any other company would lay you off but if they don't have to pay you, why bother?

You don't get a schedule. They just phone you up randomly and ask if you want to work on a Friday evening after you haven't worked for 12 days. *Because one of the old boys wants some time off*

They just want to keep enough employees sitting around so when the client comes calling they have enough guys starving to hop skip and jump with ZERO notice

Pros: Every since Pure was bought, employees who have been work hard are being recognized and are given career paths within the big organization. 

Cons: Workload has inscreased but it has not been reflected much on pay yet. If good employees are still getting little pay they wont stay for long. Some employees on the other hand basically do nothing and sit around chatting loudly in the office whole day long or complaining about changes, which is pretty annoying for people who are really trying to focus.

The company is currently in a transition from small, fun to work for company, to being a piece of a large corporate entity. 

During this transition, the pay is as low as it was when the company was small, but has the culture and lack of freedom that comes with a large company.

Pure Technologies can be the best first temporary job for fresh graduates. But, there is no space for promotion or learning new things in long time. Once you learn basics which can only take 3 months, then you are just repeating everything on job sites for next rest of your career in there.

Staff have a junior high school mentality - talking behind each other's back and generally being horrible. Training is deplorable. Would not recommend it at all.
