Pythagoras Academy

This is truly the best work environment I've experienced in over 35 years of employment. There is a strong focus on overall health and well being for all that is the true foundation of any great workplace.

This is a dedicated team of professionals who are also very open and approachable.  A team in every sense of the word, where "bosses" treat staff as competent equals.  

In this modern day and age, successful companies understand the need to balance work and home life, and Pythagoras Academy is very much in line with that.  They truly grasp the correlation between getting the best out of people by making sure they FEEL their best.  There is a strong emphasis on nurturing and supporting all students and staff in order to motivate and inspire them.  Rather than demanding good service, they pave the way for it.

All workplaces have challenges, but it's how they're met that matters.  If stress and tension lead the way, people are operating under duress and it can become counter productive.  Negativity becomes the theme, like a black cloud overhead that creates nervousness and uncertainty that can linger.  If obstacles are viewed as opportunities (as they are at PA), they can be tackled with excitement and enthusiasm, avoiding anxiety that can be a stumbling block.  People aren't afraid to try for fear of making mistakes and this opens the door for growth and reaching full potential.

The approach at PA fosters an environment that is very much "I can" versus "I'm scared to try".   Mistakes are not frowned upon, they're accepted as first attempts.  That's not to say there isn't a call for excellence - the standards are very high at PA.  But there is no "demand" for excellence, rather, they motivate and inspire it.

I am truly grateful to work for Pythagoras Academy and my wish is to see my career through here.  I'd be truly blessed to have this act as my final curtain.





PA school is like a small wonderful family. The teaching staff helps each other and collaborates a lot. All the supporting staff are very resourceful and also always eager to help you with any issues that you are having. Class sizes are small (7-12 students), and children are well mannered and well-behaved (minimum classroom management needed).  I feel always appreciated for everything extra that I do. The best part of the job is that you don't need to spend your own money on teaching resources, this school provides you with everything that a new teacher needs in the classroom. In addition, this school also shares with you their yearly plans, and they are very detailed. The hardest part of the job is the airplanes, seriously! They are flying often and if they are flying nearby you need to stop talking, wait for it to pass by and continue talking again. That's one of the perks of Richmond and being so close to the Airport. 

First of all, PA is a really nice place to work because it has the best person aboard. 

Typically I meet students and parents and also staffs everyday. I listen to all their questions and try to solve the problem as much as possible. 

I learnt a lot from communicating with all different people for example how to hold and balance the conversation base on the information they provided to me. 

PA is a place where never put us under pressure. everybody here are so nice and friendly. Collaborative is a key working atmosphere here. 

I almost enjoy every piece of my work/job everyday at PA. There's nobody to judge your performance but they will guide you to the right track if you need. 

PA is a place and family that I will never regret to join. It's a place where worth all your efforts .

Pythagoras Academy is a fun workplace! It is a fast-paced but also relaxed supportive work environment. 

We often host a variety of formal and informal activities to improve morale. These events (Pro Ds) help improve morale by reminding employees of their value to their leadership teams, coworkers, and the organization as a whole. 

Having fun in the workplace creates a relaxed environment. This allows us to get to know each other better and view each other as friends. We learn more about each other's traits and ideas and may feel more comfortable sharing their honest opinions in their discussions.

A place to develop teaching skills, good for new and experienced educators. The staff is young and there is a lot of turnover from year to year, so there is opportunity to access leadership roles. Pay is above the public system rates. The board has been very supportive of teaching staff during the pandemic. Teachers trained elsewhere can get hired on a letter of permission, but BC certification is strongly favoured. 

Pythagoras Academy is a closely-knit community where the work environment is friendly and non-competitive. Due to the scale of the school being on the smaller side, you will quickly familiarize yourself with every single staff member and student. Although work pace could get fast (especially during morning student drop off and evening pick-up) and communication in between could get a bit tricky occasionally, at the end it is very gratifying to see students and their families become closer to you.  

The teaching staff at PA are very friendly, kind, and supportive to each other during everyday teaching and collaboration time. Staff are always willing to support and help students and parents with any challenges that arise. I enjoy working at PA and have made strong friendships with the staff. I love challenging students to expand their thinking through hands-on activities and outdoor learning experiences.

Great staff and work culture that puts emphasis on collaboration and teamwork. Everyone works together on common goals and is supportive of each other. The activities and guest speakers they invited for teacher professional developments are great for our continuous professional learning. Overall this is a great place for teachers to work at.

Pythagoras Academy is a school that is growing and teaching students and teachers to be open-hearted, curious and ready to learn. The staff is young and dynamic and always ready to collaborate and finds ways to make it fun. If you are looking for a positive school environment, supportive leadership and friendly parents and students, this is a school for you.

Pythagoras Academy is like a big family. It is not a big school yet. The teachers and the staff are always willing to help each other. The culture in this school is to encourage communication and being open. This is a place you work and make friends.
