Quality Foods

Since the store opened it continues to become a popular place to shop so it's getting busier. I have learnt so many produce codes, interacting with customers, running customer service, answering a multi-line  phone, lotto, preparing sale signs etc. I enjoy telling people the perks of the Quality Foods points card. The hardest part of my job is standing long hours lifting heavy groceries over and over. I love my cashier team because we respect each other, help each other and no matter what question you have, one of the ladies has the answer. I have noticed that it doesn't matter how hard you work for the company, you will not be acknowledge for that work by the head manager. You will not get paid a great wage nor will you get a raise within a year. Although you do get great benefits. I have been able to interact with the general store managers whom all have taken the time to listen to me and others however; the lead manager isn't very approachable and tends to blame employees for things they didn't do and he also talks over the employees when they are trying to explain something or ask a question. Even though there are 2 stores on the south Island, all store functions and meetings are done Up Island which; the company provides a bus so we don't have to drive.

Irregular work schedule and managers would always mess the schedules up and schedule you for days you booked off or were unavailable. Would punish you with no or too many hours if you had change a shift. Training needs some work, properly train somebody if you're going to get mad at them for not knowing something. Co workers were nice but some didn't accept you until you've worked there for about 3 months. Job was quite simple though. Also don't expect a raise unless you're full time, and have been there for 5+ years or if you're a guy you'll get a raise quite quickly, yeah there was a bit of sexism going on.

Work at Quality Foods was very tedious and mundane, and was very routine. I was under time restraints because I had certain amounts of work I had to get done in a given night, and I had to deal with customer's as my priority, so I was forced to squeeze in my nightly routines of cleaning the deli where I could and put customer's first, which I agreed with, but when told I have to also put my cleaning duties first, it was rather frustrating. The manager was usually as unhelpful as possible, and would get in my way when it came to completing my tasks as needed. Overall not the best job, but not a bad one when the right manager is in place.

You are required to seek and find and load onto your pallet at least 100 cases per hour from all over the warehouse. 
You must do this continually all through the night.
Your night shift starts at 9 pm and ends at 6 am.
I understand their expectations as semi trucks need to be loaded for delivery to all they different store locations on the Island. 
Even if you build 7 pallets per shift, you had better meet the 100 cases per hour minimum,  or you will be written up.
Good luck sleeping during the day. 
Night shifts are not natural and they definitely affect your health.

Working for Quality foods was great for the people I worked with on a day to day basis, as well as having customer interaction.

The hardest part about the job was lack of family life due to work schedule, but in turn the best part of the job was management who helped with flexibility.

I learned a great deal while working in the retail sector. How to work with great speed and efficiency as well as being able to communicate with fellow co-workers and customers. While in management myself learning to deal with certain situations both positive and negative has helped me grow as a employee and as a person.

The management turnover to facilitate a junior manager was a difficult adjustment.

The culture and environment was very nice.
Being part of the change of season's in the grocery industry was very enriching!

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Working in various departments was a benefit to being flexible everyday!

Worked there for two years while in highschool. Overall a decent minimum wage job but nothing too special. They are very flexible with hours and time off which is great when going to highschool or university. The staff is fantastic! Though management isn't nearly as good and seems to avoid giving employees any raises. Pay is slightly above minimum wage with almost anywhere else paying better. In grocery the workload is not too difficult though other departments are severely understaffed and a high stress environment.

I love my job here. I love the people I work with and I love the fast paced environment. I have been here for almost 2 years and I love it. But I do not get consistent shifts or as many hours as a I should be getting. I am listed under full time at my job but only get 20-25 hours a week. I would love to work full time so I can support myself. I love the people I work with, but out management needs to listen to their employees more.

I worked as a volunteer, so I basically did everything besides cooking. I learned I need to be patient when I serve to old people, because they may have difficult speaking or listening. Also, I have to be strong when I stressed out, because I have to finish what I have chosen. I can just quit this job because I did do something well. In addition, the boss was so nice. He always cooked me some food when I done my job, and he taught me how to make dumpling, wonton, and spring roll patiently.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Meeting people everyday, and most of the coworkers are very nice.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
When the lines at the tills get long and/or the customers get grumpy.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very diversified, each sector stays to themselves due to constant business.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Usually fast paced, repeat customers seek my lane out as I am a favorite.
