Quartech

Quartech is an excellent place to work. I have never felt more valued as a contributor to the success of the team! They are leading the tech industry in BC with technologies and methodologies like Agile, Block Chain, MS Dynamics, AI etc. There is always opportunities to learn new things and room for advancement and growth. They treat sub-contractors and employees like family and are really supportive to everyone. They are a growing, progressive company that really care about the solutions they deliver and really want to provide value to their clients.

Having worked in many companies. I can notice when upper management lacks the vision and direction to bring on a quality team that is valued.  If you look at the management team most are owners or been with the company since the beginning.  They talk about each other bad micro-managing style of leadership and the lack of control project managers have because all of the decision power is siloed in very few managers.  Very little trust in the ability of others.  Pay was well below industry average and well below targets for victoria companies.  I would worry that any large company would come in and buy the technology and fire all of the staff.

Small organisation with just two levels - executive team and everyone else. 
Start with the positive - everyone else (i.e. project managers, functional consultants, developers) are great. They know their stuff and are always willing to help. Great people who do good work.
Now for the Cons - unfortunately, it's lead by boomers who have no idea what they are doing. Letting lotsa people go while trying to keep everything hush hush wrecks morale. Oligarchy - a few people makes all the decisions and everyone needs to obey. P&C (HR) are the company enforcers.

Quartech is a very innovative company doing a lot of interesting project work for their clients as well as internally. They are leaders in many areas and support their staff in keeping up to date on latest technologies and certifications. This is a fast-paced environment but can also be fun and exciting. Staff and management are fantastic. Working environment is great.

There are several good points to Quartech and many challenging ones. Largest issues are internal communication and being tasked with something but not given the authority nor support to accomplish it.
The experience of being a contractor is much different than being an employee and I think it is a much better working culture if you are a contractor.

It gives you flexibility and there are lot of projects to be part of

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Once you are an corporate employee the projects are not vivid its quite monotonous 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It is balanced depending on who your manager is

Quartech has a great work area and innovation centre. They are putting agile and scrum environments in all their current projects. 

This is a good work environment with great co-workers. I enjoyed the 
enthusiasm and technical skills of other workers. 

We regularly met for friday lunchs and often had after work events. 

This is a good place to work.

Quartech is a great place to work. The company is involved in many innovative projects, including a multitude of new technologies such as containerized development (Docker, OpenShift), blockchain and AI. There is always an opportunity to learn new things. Management is always supportive of both employees and contractors.

Staff and contractors are treated much differently, good place to contract to but you don't want to work there as staff. The workplace culture is simple; "Get ALL they can out of you for as LITTLE as they have to pay you." Victoria office has great account managers, department managers are GREATLY lacking.

I've worked for small and large IT consulting firms, and Quartech is just the right size.  They're big enough to win exciting projects in Canada/US, but small enough to be nimble and get to know who their employees are.
