Overall, this is a decent place to work with a lot of positives that make it worthwhile. The coworkers are supportive, easy to work with, and truly make a difference in what can often be a fast-paced and demanding environment. Teamwork is encouraged, and there’s a strong sense of camaraderie among staff, which helps make even the busiest days manageable. The pay is competitive, and the pension is a major benefit that adds long-term value and stability, which is not always easy to find in today’s workforce. While the workload can be heavy at times, the experience gained is valuable and keeps each day interesting. If you enjoy staying busy and working in a dynamic setting, this is a solid place to build your career. Overall, it offers a good balance of compensation, benefits, and a positive work culture.

As much as I loved the unit I worked on, I did not feel like they had much support available for new RNs. I struggled with learning some tasks and felt like when this was brought up, my struggles were cast aside by the management of the unit and I was told I'd get more confident as time went on.

I decided to leave after about a year here for TOH as they are much larger and a well-known teaching hospital. My experience as a new RN has been much better, but I think it would be nice to return to QCH once I gain more experience!  QCH has a great community feel to it, but I think they lack the resources that larger hospitals can provide.

If you can put up with more than most you are an excellent fit for the QCH Emergency department. Patients on their worst days, policies that don't serve you as best they could and the ever constant dissatisfaction with management are the big cons, but the pros are big as well. Great pay, the friendliest and most hardworking nurses, doctors and support staff, and the choice to work 8 or 12 hours a shift, leading to shorter work weeks if needed, or more manageable days if you don't.
Overall I would recommend the QCH to thick skinned employees, and people looking to feel like they helped make a difference in someone's life, an opportunity you get each day at work.

Our unit manager really cares about the staff and we work well together as a team, helping each other out as needed.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
When the unit gets super busy and our nurse to patient ratios are exceeded.

Excellent. There are many opportunities to help with building a positive and inclusive culture.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Come in a bit early, get report on the patients, organize my day, stop by each patient room to introduce myself then get to work!

Co workers are nice to work with

Every time you come to work you don’t know what unit you will be floated to even if your hired to work medicine you can very well be sent to Emergency to work

Every job falls on the nurse . This hospital has a disciplinary model definitely not a nurse friendly environment

Very busy workload ,always work short

Nursing through the pandemic has been very stressful. A lot of senior staff left but QCH still follows CNO/RNAO recommendations for staffing ratios which is unfair and often unsafe, leaving nurses to feel inadequate and risk their nursing license. That being said, the management has been very supportive to newer staff and provide patient care aids and extra nurses to share the workload. 
Overall, happy with the culture, support and opportunities.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time as a nurse. The experience provided me with valuable insights into patient care and a sense of fulfillment in helping others. However, the physical demands of the job took a toll on my body over time. While I cherished the opportunity to make a positive impact, I've decided to explore roles that better align with my long-term well-being. I appreciate the support and the learning experience during my tenure

Institution not employee focused.  Overall mood of employees is constantly negative, complaints of unhappiness from all areas, too many stress leaves from all areas.
Employee concerns or opinions not respected.  If you ask too many questions you run the risk of being fired.
Too many employees on modified due to lack of hospital responsibility to administer better standards of work.

Horrible place to work, unless you like being under appreciated, talked to like children by managers, no resources, unmanageable workload and no pay for justified overtime. No breaks, or downtime. Not recommended to start a career in a place like this. 

Will hire anyone to work as management as long as they have papers, no experience required.

you are not just a number- it’s more of a smaller hospital mentality

sometimes are so many staffing needs, it’s hard to say no

great, it’s a good environment, staff always works together well

busy!!!!  always short staffed but that is everywhere!
