Cogir had purchased a large portfolio of buildings last year and had offered to keep me employed in the building I was managing. I accepted their offer which was the same rate of pay from the previous company, same duties, but they were going to reduce the daily operating hours. They reduced the daily hours but forced me to work 12 days every 2 weeks opposed to the 10 days every 2 weeks we agreed on. Since I am a salary employee in an occupation with loose labour laws, I was forced to follow their new policy. I was working 60-70 hours a week after their changes not including responding to emergencies after hours. 

When it comes to pay, most of your earning are locked into an over-priced apartment because you are expected to live on-site. The pay cheque you will get will be less every year because the apartment cost will go up based on the percentage the government allows.

The district manager that I had to deal with on a daily basis could make you go insane. This person in particular abuses their "power" and will constantly talk down to you. This Regional Manager was a complete miserable, useless person who has no management tools or knowledge at their disposal. This person would definitely not last in another industry as a manager because their nasty attitude towards staff and customers wouldn't be tolerated.  

The best part of my job was making the lives of the tenants better. If it was not for the great people that resided in the building, I would have left after the first week.

I am hoping this review may save anyone before they make the mistake of becoming a Resident Manager/ Superintendent.

I am an early riser therfore I started my day around 7h30. It gave me a chance to do a tour of the residence and meet certain employees before the begining of their day. Had lunch in the dining room every day it gave me a chance to meet with the residence and evaluate cetain meals. I consider customer service one of the most imporatant part of this job.
I am a hands on so I know what everyone had to do and met with the employees on a regualer basis. I enjoied underling cetain good things employees did.
My learning experience was on how to handle differect ungerncies at the same time. This residente was old and needed major repairs. I handeled leeking roofs, lack of heating, electricity problemes, leeking pool ect. The hardest part was reassuring my customers. Some had help with their families but alot of them were alone.
Seeing a smile or making one of my customers happy with certain lettle attentions we gave them. Birthday cards, little gifts, a party and even when a got a big thank you for attending the funeral of one or our customers.

When I was called for the interview, the job itself looked great with own apartment and nice neighborhood, once I moved to the new place, I couldn't believe I was harassed at my 1st day when I never received proper training and knowledge about the manage of the building, management is disorganized, unethical and poor treatment. Also, they didn't provide enough tools to clean the buildings properly, only broom and mop and few rags. I may believe managers were before delivery pizza drivers. Double mask faces, gossip and hypocrites.

If you want to be treated as a peace of trash and simply you hate yourself so much, this is the place for you.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The staff (not bosses) and the residents.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The psychological harassment and being screamed at.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Absolutely horrible. You get screamed at and billeted  and threatened on a regulars basis. Forced to work when not available or have a day off. They have people doing medicaments who should not. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
When my alarm went off i had palpations because i knew i had to go in.  We have to do work that is above our knowledge.

What did I not do there... at DevMcGill

Management style was insane: text at any time of the night, didn't care if I did extra hours or worked 7 days in a week... Even then, someone had to be at the office if the CEO needed anything from our team. Bullying was current and toxic vibe in the office at all times. Many didn't have the skills for their role, more work for their teams. Many got a promotion based on threats... Disgusted.  CEO didn't have a clue of what was going on in the office... 

HR was inexistant...

Reactive at all times since there was no action plan and everything was done in-house for every construction project.

Every day when I get My office I check my computer for the services call I have it from the NSCC and the automation system to see the temperature in the building and check the mechanical room.
I learned a lot of skills and to be smiling all the time  and to be positive optimistic hopeful  with my co-workers and my manager and my talents .The hardest part when we have refrigeration system broken and the building start get warm and warm and the calls start : it is hot it is hot and the temperature rise. And the best time is when we have happy hours with coffee and cookies. And a free lunch  with the Manager.

Office staffs are rude to both tenants and co-workers . They some tenants have to wait months in some case more than a year to get a work order for their unit . if you of the same origin ( nationallity ) as them well they will treat you with due respect 

I worked as a Property Manager in one of their assets for 9 months, in the office pretty much alone while Covid is ongoing.
Without warning I  was handed a letter terminating my employment effective the same day. Reason.....restructuring.
The following week they changed the title to  Project Manager and hired someone to do the same job I was doing.
Tenants were great, middle management was good but the upper management is male driven and has no interest or regard for in their eyes "lesser" employees.  

What i learned throughout my work experience at Rockhill Apartments managed by Cogir was leadership, working well under pressure , and most importantly, communication. My co workers were delightful to be around and extremely communicative. The hardest part of the job was the occasional inability to provide sufficient information / assistance to a tenant/client. The most enjoyable part of the job was the team I had the pleasure of being apart of.

So i was offered this job as i was captain of security in another company with stability and benefits. 

I had asked the person that hired me at Cogir that i would like the same stability after about 2 months of working there and completing every task asked by the employer i was fired. 

I asked for reasons and was told that I had sexually harassed a elder women working for me I taught this was a joke at first and asked that a investigation be done. 

Instead I was fired without investigation.
