Overall great company culture, very inclusive as a whole, and offers a good work life balance. Coming out of school, don't expect to be payed more than 25k a year, yearly raises will be a percentage which will amount to pennies. (You'll get paid the same for an entry level receptionist job, without schooling). YOU WILL NOT get the anticipated raises that they say you will get during the first 2 years out of school, you'll probably quit before you get a livable income

Family department is a cut throat area, not accommodating to new LAA's. Amazing lawyers, but the staff is thoroughly drained from the work and poor salary they're making, especially for single income households (Will need to have a second job for any extraordinary expenses). Must pay into medical, isn't free... to compensate for poor compensation. Have been told by many other law firms that they have poor mentorship skills, and they lose a lot of new employees, including associates due to this. Yearly rookie skit that pokes fun at the partners, but due to fear set in place by partners and very prickly personalities, it becomes uncomfortable for new employees to actually complete.

LAA's are over run with work which makes it difficult for juniors to ask questions and learn, most of the time they're told to find it themselves even if they don't know where to start. Would highly recommend to find another law firm if you're a Junior. Get the experience elsewhere and come here after your 5+ years, you'll regret not getting the experience elsewhere.

RDM has a great culture and team environment. The managers and partners care very much about their staff and their lives, and it shows. They very much pride themselves on being a 'family' and the friendships made here can last a lifetime. 

While it can be stressful, the management team makes sure that you are fully supported, gives you the tools to succeed and recognizes the hard work and dedication of their staff. Beyond tangible recognition and perks, it's obvious that they genuinely appreciate their staff. 

I have never worked at office that provided more engaging and fun events. Office wide birthday celebrations, themed events, Administrative Professional Day, sports days, wine tasting, kayaking, 12 Days of Christmas, Zoom Trivia, painting lessons, to name a small few. Not to mention corporate packages to local gyms, gift cards to many local businesses, lunches, dinners, snacks, and the list honestly goes on. 

You can also tell that management wants to learn, grow and progress both in being the best office in the valley but also being the one where everyone wants to work. 

Terrible place for a junior LAA to come into and hope to grow. Work environment is toxic with other assistants in higher positions micromanaging everyone and talking behind your back when you aren’t there. Management is a joke, you discuss something with them and best believe the whole firm will know what was said. This place is a gossip mill not a professional law office. No training whatsoever, work will be thrown at you with no instructions and you will scramble to figure it out for yourself or hopefully get one of the nicer assistants to help you. Everyone is miserable, overworked and underpaid. Salary is next to nothing they will offer you below industry standard whether you have 0 years of experience or 5. 

100+ employees but no HR Department, hr is handled by someone who has no training or relevant education to back it up. Everybody is on a power trip here. Turnover for this firm is crazy high and I wonder why. 

Avoid this place if you can.

This is the first job in my life where I have never dreaded coming to work - in fact, most days I look forward to it. Great group of people to work alongside and to spend so much time with. I think a lot of people that have started in the past few years - the Covid years - have had a different experience only b/c RDM has taken everything so seriously and tried to follow all of the H&S protocols, which meant a lot of the social events we used to do weren't as easy to do. But social engagement with staff is definitely ramping up again. Further, the firm is great about recognizing hard work, rewarding strong & intelligent workers, and fostering a good work/life balance for its employees.

Expect to frequently feel lost, learn on the fly, and ask many questions to any fellow colleagues kind enough to be willing to help, (there are a few who are excellent) and make the job somewhat fun in the few times you have the chance to interact with them. However, you will likely encounter other experienced LAA's who are seemingly apathetic to your status as a junior assistant and will behave dismissively or completely ignore you. 

Expect to be consistently condescended to and treated with an overarching persistent cold and brash attitude by the heads of the departments. They run the place! 

You will be consistently overworked, overburdened and overwhelmed. The pay is simply not worth it relative to other jobs of similar compensation. 

HR is handled by unqualified staff with no training whatsoever. 

Working as a legal assistant here has been a great experience. The team is professional, respectful, and genuinely supportive. One of the things I appreciate most is the strong emphasis on work-life balance—management understands that life happens and has always been accommodating when personal situations arise. I’ve had the opportunity to grow my skills and stay organized with a steady, manageable workload. I’ve felt valued and trusted in my role, and I’m grateful to be part of such a flexible and understanding workplace. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a stable and compassionate work environment.

I have been working at RDM since I moved to the mainland in 2016. Right from the moment I walked in for my interview I knew this was the place I wanted to work.  I have always found RDM to be a place where they want you to love your job and want to come to work everyday. We have many staff perks and events to make it a fun work environment.   There is always a lawyer or manager that is there to help if you are having a work or personal issue.  They are definitely flexible to unseen events that may cause you to work remotely or miss time to attend appointments. We spend most of our day at work and RDM is my second family.   

I can honestly say I love working at RDM. Lawyers, management, and other staff are very approachable and always willing to help and answer questions. Focus on teamwork, client service, and professional and personal growth make this a great place to work. We are treated to fun activities throughout the year, such as sports day, celebrations, and monthly birthday events. I always feel valued and appreciated, and have been able to grow tremendously in my role. I look forward to continuing to advance my career at RDM.

In all seriousness there is nothing more I could ask for in an employer. The people here are wonderful and work together as a team so seamlessly. Hard work is recognized and the staff is appreciated. the management team is transparent, listens to the staff and are committed to constantly improving. Lawyers have a open door policy, are approachable and respectful to staff. I am always learning and growing and really feel like an important part of the RDM family. 10/10 recommend. 

Compared to previous firms I have worked for, RDM has more firm events and often shows their appreciation for staff. They have hosted cooking lessons, put on sporting events, taken us to musical events and wine tastings, provided gift cards, have monthly birthday celebrations, anniversary parties and annual Christmas parties. Even during COVID they found a way to keep everyone engaged. Every month something fun is planned and participation is always optional. Lots of opportunity to join committees and help plan the events. Fun place to work and make friends!
