What is the best part of working at the company?
The people I worked with were/are great. Reception is confident and lets me know when a client arrives and my supervisor was terrific and understanding if I had any issues.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Well, some people do not show up for their appointments.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It is a safe and secure location. The people I dealt with were friendly and helpful.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I would be required to sign in and then report to my cubical. I would then have to set up my computer and attach the printer to it, then check to see if my first client had arrived yet. If they haven't the receptionist would inform me when they do arrive or if they have arrived I would go out in the reception area to greet them and then guide them to my workstation. I would then process their tax information for either the current year or for multiple years (if required)

Some of the New Management at the Region of Durham Works Department spend more time concerned about lunch then the concerns of the employees. they also can't work alone they seem to travel in a minimum pack of two.
Certain people in this organization spend more time trying to get out of work than doing work. a lot of things are talked about but with very few results. there are no employee reviews and employee feedback or concerns usually only goes as far as the conversation you have with the supervisor. if you are a hard worker and care about what you are doing then I would suggest looking elsewhere. if you don't care and are looking for a decent paycheck and steady job then this is the place for you. PS they hire off your resume and do not care about your personality so if you check all the boxes you are in!

Job tasks were given out at the start and I was paired up with whoever needed help.
I offered to help work with anybody on heavy equipment or truck.
All the mechanics had a great sense of humour and could complete any task with ease.

The hardest job I had was working in another depot with a mechanic and myself. There were 2 vehicles to inspect and repair, a John Deere loader outside for repair, a truck broken down out in the field, parts to be ordered, and vehicles constantly coming in for repairs.

The best part of the job was all the mechanics were willing to take extra time to teach.

Whether you are interested in the public or private sector the Region is a great place to work. They provide lots of (paid) training. They encourage advancement from within. The only problem I really felt I could see was the benefits package for most workers expires at age 65. This means that when you are getting elderly and need care the most you won't have benefits to pay for care.

The staff are very caring and want to do a good job. The toxic management style places a chip on the shoulder of most staff. Authoritarianism is out dated. It’s time the people in high positions changed the management style to one of respect for all. 

Pay is good. If you don't care/ or have a family at home, and no hobbies, then this place is for you. Must take all overtime work no questions asked, every time. If not you will be blackballed and never receive a permanent spot. No actual work happens during the work day, only on overtime.

Good work life balance.  Good benefits.  Opportunity to advance.  Variety  of jobs.  Public service jobs with high level of job satisfaction.  Expanding work force each year.

I thoroughly enjoyed working for the Region of Durham.  Worked as a team with a very dynamic group of individuals.  I am still friends to day with the people I worked with at the Regional Municipality of Durham.

Wake up early get a morning coffee, hop into the truck and head to the first of many job sites throughout the day. Supervisors are easy going but make sure we get the job done. Work is fair and the pay is great.
