RICKYS ALL DAY GRILL

A typical day at work would mean, an entire day of customer service from greeting and seating them, taking their beverages, making bill payments, dealing with their requests and inquiries, taking phone calls and take out orders, bussing, cleaning and setting the table and all around cleaning in the restaurant. 

I can say, I have been learning a lot in this job. I learned how to keep up in a fast paced environment. I learned how to multitask. I learned how to work in a group and also, how I can be depended upon by my workmates. I learned how to be patient. I learned how to strategize in order to save time and energy. I learned how to be systematic and organized in doing things. And most of all, I learned how to give efficient customer service. 

About the management, well, it's hard to say, but they don't know how to really take care and value their workers. I've found out they don't actually give a raise for the years of hard work of my co-workers. They pay minimum wage. And the management violates certain rules on the company's regulations and standards. 

My co-workers are fun to be with. We have a happy environment in the restaurant. We all work hard. We help each other at all times. It's a fun working relationship that we have.

Well, my job is physically exhausting but I can say I can handle it just fine. The hardest part of the job for me is not having a fixed schedule. The manager dictates our schedule for the week and it always differs from the previous week. That is why it's hard to find a part time job.

The most enjoyable part of the job is when you get to learn a lot about how to manage things; how to handle things under pressure; how you are being molded into this professional person by inhibiting those things you learn from this job. :) Also, being able to find out a lot of things because of your co-workers. 

Recently new owners and management took over.  At that time quality and care were abandoned for uncaring and unsafe workers.  Witness on regular basis food left out over night, raw fish left sitting on top of vegetable prep, food dropped on floor left for over a week before anything was done about it, the list goes on.  Several attempts were made to bring this to management levels.  Concerns were brushed away and after a short while I could no longer work in a place like this.  I could go on and on listing the violations they broke as well as post pictures of all sorts of "dirty" behavior.  

-rat (I personally caught one)
-ant infestation 
-expired food (not properly rotated)
-dirty rags used to "clean" food prep areas
-in roughly 2 years of being open they have gone through no less than 60 employees.  They make a lot of lies (we'll give you full time hours, you will get regular raises) and many people left when they realized how much they were lied to.
-original owner left due to legal actions against the franchise.  (again more lies even to their owners)
-eye-wash station broke almost a year ago and has not been fixed or replaced. (even though it was brought to management attention on at least 3 occasions by myself.
-worked there for over 2 years and received only 2 raises.  (total of $1.00, $.50 each raise) even though policy is a review every 3 months, only had 1 review in 2 years.

Very unprofessional workplace.  Definitely do not recommend working or applying here.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the time I have spent working at Ricky's. Not only have I made several friendships with my coworkers, but I have also developed the essential skills needed for proper communication with customers, which has allowed me to gain confidence in myself. Throughout high-school it was the perfect after-school/weekend job since the shifts were short and start times were a few hours after I got home which gave me enough time to relax before work. 
The hardest part of my job would be keeping calm during peak hours,  as well as dealing with complaints made by customers while in this state. I have learned how important it is to remain calm in such situations and continue to be friendly and helpful to customers at the same time. 
The most enjoyable part of my job would be how social it is. I love being able to go to work and constantly be on my feet and moving around, as well as being able to joke around with co-workers (mildly) and overall have a great time with my friends at work. Another benefit to working in a restaurant was the concept of being a part of a team, and it really shows in Ricky's in particular. We are always helping each other out and ensuring that we ask for help when needed, it is nice to know that I can ask for help and it will be given to me without question.

I have worked at Ricky's All Day Grill for just over four years now. As a hostess, I learned basic skills such as how to set, bus, and seat tables. More importantly, I learned how to be cooperative with fellow employees, how to be more confident in my social skills and interactions with guests, and the importance of restaurant etiquette and having positive attitude while at work. Rarely did I dread going into work, and I was always greeted by my managers and co-workers when I entered the building. The hardest part of the job would be maintaining a calm attitude while working a rush, and paying especially close detail to the guest's requests during these hours. The most enjoyable part of the job would be the social interactions I had with the guests and the friends I have made there. It has given me an amazing work experience, and I have learned many things and gained a great amount of confidence in myself.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The best part was helping guests navigate the menu to help them decide what they wanted to order.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The most stressful part of working at this company was the toxic behaviour of the senior waitresses and the manager's support of their bullying

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It was a very family-like dynamic. The management team never has a day off or moment of peace and the whole staff is expected to put in way more work than they're being paid for.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I would come in with the Kitchen Manager before the restaurant opened on weekends and we would get our respective areas prepared for service.
On opening, some regulars would come in right away for their morning coffee and breakfast. A second waitress would come in shortly thereafter and guests would start pouring in.
My shift ended around the lunch hour, depending on when the next shift of waitresses were able to come in.

Working at Ricky’s has been a valuable experience, helping me develop teamwork, communication, and customer service skills in a fast-paced environment. As a server, I interact with a diverse range of customers, ensuring they have a positive dining experience by taking orders accurately, delivering food efficiently, and addressing any concerns with professionalism. The role has also strengthened my ability to multitask, manage time effectively, and work collaboratively with kitchen staff to maintain smooth service. Handling busy shifts has taught me how to stay calm under pressure while providing excellent service. Additionally, engaging with customers has improved my interpersonal skills, allowing me to build rapport and adapt to different personalities. Beyond the technical skills, working at Ricky’s has reinforced the importance of patience, problem-solving, and a strong work ethic—qualities that will benefit me in any future career, including my path in pharmacy, where customer interaction and efficiency are essential.

i typical day at Ricky's All Day Grill is defiantly not anything special. i would start every single on of my shifts by asking if it was busy or not, and they would answer with the same answer every Saturday and Sunday that i would work. as being the closing server i had duties that needed to be done so that the morning servers weren't angry and unsatisfied with the job that was done. At Ricky's All Day Grill i would have to mop the whole restaurant, clean all the tables and make sure that they were set to the morning servers satisfaction, i would also have to do prep which included making sure there were jars of strawberries, blueberries, salsa, sour cream and more. i would also have to make sure that the bathrooms were clean and that there was to-lite paper in every washroom, along with paper towel. i would also have to take out all the garbage's and make sure everything was clean and tidy.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The tips are good. It’s busy. The team is really good and work together very well. As a team, they are very supportive of one another.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The owner micromanages too much. He takes snap shots if situations and responds poorly, creating stressful situations needlessly. He favours certain employees, and allows them to work alone while nitpicking other employees for the same things.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment is generally really good. Until the owner involves himself, creating undue stress.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Busy. Fun and exciting when allowed to perform at peak level without unnecessary involvement from others.

It was a place of strict policies in regards to how you dress and how you act, which was reasonable. I enjoyed having this place as my first job, before then, I was a full time student, and the experience taught me a lot about professionalism, hard-work, and appreciation.

The hardest part of the job was adapting to the fairness, or lack thereof. Everyone was treated differently based on title. I understand the concept of earning respect, but don't degrade others in the process of it.

The most enjoyable part of the job was, how co-dependent we were with each other. We played our roles so greatly in the business, and we attracted good business. When it got to it's busiest times, it was an adrenaline rush I would never forget, and you have complete control of the influence you give others. That's the best part. You could make anyone's day by serving their food with a joke on the side, the little things really do count.

The management and co-workers are great. We work in a friendly team environment. There is always someone available to help you out if the restaurant gets busy. The most enjoyable part of the job is sometimes we get seniors come in who are there just to eat and want someone to talk to, it makes me really happy when they appreciate our work and have a smile on their face when they leave because we listened to them and had conversations with them. The hardest part of the job has to mainly do with making silly mistakes when I am super busy and disappointing the customer because something small went wrong. Its not something that happens on purpose but sometimes some customers get upset and that is one of the hardest parts of this job. Working with this location is great because the manager is very understanding and willing to be flexible about scheduling and taking days off.
