RIMOWA

I'll just post my pro's and con's here to make it a lot easier for everyone who has an interest in this company.

I only ask that you really consider what you are getting yourself into and read this to see if you can tolerate this company.

Pro's


-Clean (because it is a new facility)

-It has a professional atmosphere. (Makes you feel like you need to dress like a professional)

-The average person you work beside is a good person, not to mention a hard worker.

-Morning meetings every day for warehouse staff.

Con's 


- Morning meetings are typically very informal and unrelated to work day events.

- Monkeys could manage the entire facility better than the management that is currently running the warehouse and office.
They don't notify people upon hiring that they will be working every Saturday, mandatory.

- They don't have a large HR department and the department they do have is very lazy. That said they don't get paid any more than a warehouse worker.

- They hire strictly through Temporary agencies (Oh, but there is more to this point!)

- They keep you as a temporary agent for 6-12 months at a time only to begin a 3 month probation with the company.

- Being hired on is strictly based on how many positions you know on the line. (Which many people who work there will never touch the line as there are many other positions within the warehouse) examples; pre-production and scrap. 

- Massive turnover because of all of the above points. 

- Starting wage is mediocre for a job that will in the end cause you to see a doctor for repetitive stress injuries. 

- Starting wage doesn't move for an entire year and even then it is a very small jump. It's $1 after a year and then .25 cents every year after. UNLESS you get a higher position on the line which still isn't a much higher wage.

- Higher positions also include much more physically demanding work that will injure your wrists/elbow. (Heavy squeezing/8 hours a day hammering)

- Temporary agents are training temps. Only because the full-timers are getting sick of working there and finding different jobs.

- This company also brought in a consulting company to ask people who manufactured the case(Employees on the line) what they would do differently. This information was brought to management who apparently couldn't make the 20 second walk out onto the floor to ask themselves. 




Summary.

I wouldn't say this is a job everyone should avoid. I just really believe people need to consider what they are getting into - ontop of this they should know what they are getting themselves involved with. The company has a lot of potential, however they have no idea how to even start get themselves into a successful state beyond just making loads of sales. 

There is more to being a company than just making a boat load of money. If you want to be one of the top 50 employers in Canada you really need to consider your employee's first. Something they do not do at Rimowa. 

My advice to the managers of Rimowa?

Get paid less
Pay more to your hard working employees
Pay attention to your employees! Many of them are very intelligent and have all the answers you need.
Get a bigger HR department and pay them a little more. You want to be in the top 50 employers in Canada? You have a long way to go.
Cut out all temporary workers - hire directly. You can't tell me you can't afford this when your luggage sells for $800+

The workplace is very clean. The coworkers are like family and very respectful, most of the time. The Lead Hands also very friendly and straightforward. 

The management from supervisor to head are a whole different batch of eggs. They have almost 0 respect for health and safety of workers. Specifically the aluminum framers, that includes myself. The damaging effects of framing has caused many to quit, and others file for health benefits due excruciating pains in the hands, arms, shoulders and back. 

When spoken to supervisor, no action is taken really. Even the salary for this position is 14$/hr. Same as the other positions of the assembly line with much less serious consequences. 

The Head cares more about production and quantity rather than the health of its workers. This causes lack of any possibility of advancements.

This place hires only through temp agencies for the production department. It takes about 8-9 months on average for anyone to get hired and when you do they still make you wait 3 months for full time status. There's no advancement or development opportunities. Salary is average for this line of work but you only get one raise after a year of employment and then there's no more. There's no reward or incentive for long term employees. Take work environment is similar to a high school. Average worker is between 19-25 yrs old and there's lots of drama/bullying between workers. Very inconsistent, there's no organization and management is almost invisible. I would only recommend this job as an in between stop, not a place to settle long term.

The work was easy, but management was all over. Something that failed quality one day would pass the next, and that doesnt even get into the fact that the day shift and afternoon shifts had completely different quality standards.

They specialized in letting the worst leaders lead people, electing to bring supervisors that had no experience in the department as they fired the people who had been supervising a year. 

If youre hoping for a solid job with good security, Rimowa will tell you for months no one is getting let go and then lay off 149 people. Rumors spread like wild fire and no one trusts management.

work load is not fair at all , some employer have work load more than others , manager does not care that much. the company have no stable quality standard , quality for the company is individual base , some employer in quality department they do not have basic quality skills visual inspector no measurement  instrument , overall quality department look a masse . personal experience it does not add nothing to my education and experience except for dealing up with people . The most I did not like about the job manager does not carry the weight of the job .

Very interesting place to work. There were always challenges and opportunities.  Employee oriented. In my role, the day was never routine. I enjoyed the challenges of always working toward a self empowered work force. I had opportunities to improve the environment in health and safety, productivity and building teams.

Lack of standard systems. Coordination of product design and production facility best suited.

This place was a disaster. Management had no clue what was going on with employees and there was so much disorganization you never knew what you were walking into each day. Communication with head office in Germany was pretty much non-existent, which caused local Managers to not be able to make any decisions. There was no work/life balance and you were expected to work long hours without any pay or lieu time. The culture was terrible too. If you quit, everyone in the office congratulated you or asked you to bring them with you. I'd stay away from this place.

A typical work day includes performing your daily task and keeping your work area clean. Abiding with the health and safety act, and communicating with management when needed for work flow changes. The most challenging part of the job is ensuring new employees are familiar with the standards and the most enjoyable part of the job is when you start working on a new collaborative project. The workplace culture is easy going.

The management may have changed from when I worked there but when I did the manager I worked for was horrible.   She did not like men.   She said she liked when she would talk to men and see fear in their eyes.   She gossiped and talked behind the backs of employees and even other managers and her boss.   Training was minimal.   I did not enjoy my time there.   If I messed up there was no grace.   The system itself was touchy and half in German.   I would not recommend working there to anyone I liked.

Overworked with no support.
New managers every year who are clueless.
Culture is dwindling by the day. The team leads run the show and the Supervisors and managers just collect a paycheck in their offices. No loyalty, one day they are telling you thanks and the next they are firing you with no reason. Don't waste your time with no appreciation.
