I would not say it is bad but it is definitely not for everyone. Many boys have behavioral issues and you are expected to make sure they follow the rules and lead by example in the way you dress, the way you speak, the way 'you' follow orders. Uniform is also something you have to comply with. It was a lot of work, it was rewarding work in some cases but overall it was not worth what you're paid even with benefits. The location is far out of the way for most people so be prepared to pay a pretty penny on gas and you may end up not being able to leave after long shift days if the roads are bad during winter (when you're in the middle of nowhere). 



Barely any training. The military protocol is used as a manipulation tool by the kids to undermine new staff, making an already challenging job that much more stressful. The staff on the floor are well intentioned and a pleasure to work with but the upper management seems disconnected. Over 30 percent staff turnover rate. Scheduling is a mess at times. The keys that are given to open up areas in the school often do not even work. 

I would recommend RLA for anyone looking to get a resume builder but not a company that I would ever recommend make a career out of. Very rewarding at times and difficult at others.

Great place to work. 
Staff becomes like family. It's rewarding to watch these kids grow in the program and go on to be successful young men. They have a great team with a lot of long standing staff that have dedicated many many years to the growth and success of these boys. The company is accommodating when you need the extra help and support at or outside of the workplace. Like any place it has its down sides too but over all awesome place. 

I enjoyed my tenure at Robert Land Academy. The Academy helps troubled teens gain a good education in a military setting. The only issue was the September to June contracts with no guarantee of being "re-signed". Definitely a team environment.

Students arrive unsure of their roles and future in life. Through collaborative planning and work they begin to realize their own potential. A very rewarding experience for staff, students and their families.

The original position was misleading. Was told it would be a mix of days and nights, but was strickly nights for six months until promotion. When promoted, much more expectation than the extra dollar they give you is worth.

Need better communications all around.  Often left alone with too many youth to be safe.  Expectations although appear clear staff often didnt support what they said they would do.  Alot of confusion and egos.  I felt I couldn't talk to anyone about my concerns

Allot of great people dedicated to help our students.  The academy is unique and the only one in Canada. If the academy was not an option they boys would be lost and forgotten.  

Very Difficult and challenging. little support for management, in fact the only time you would hear anything from them is if you did something wrong. more training is required for all new staff.

Benefits are great
Poor management
Some staff are far from team players and will try undermining anybody they can, while some are a real pleasure
They will give you a hefty work load and offer little resources or help
