The lack of support from management.  


What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Laid back and relaxed but often stressful when dealing with clients. The culture is so focused on helping the communities that they often ignore the needs and safety of their staff. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Overdose assistance, cooking, cleaning, laundry, meeting with tenants, handing out harm reduction supplies, assisting tenants as needed. Filling out incident reports, updating tenant files, reading and responding to emails, handing out medication.

There's always something that needs to be done, but you wouldn't know it from the number of staff who just sit & stare at their phones. People who work hard will be rewarded with more work, zero additional compensation & support when they eventually burnout. There are a handful of managers who try to distribute labor fairly, and coworkers who care & pull their fair share of weight, but overwhelming the organization is a mess. It's a bad situation, especially for the people who live in these buildings. They're the ones who are being the most messed over and it's a difficult situation to witness. Sometimes it feels like the only people who last in this line of work are sociopaths who don't care.

In truth this company is a low barrier employer which constantly has staff with past issues on site dealing themselves with mental issues and addictions. To fit in you must be as such or sooner then later you will be signaled out as a trouble maker and you quit or they make it such a sad depressed place to work you give up and they knit pick reason to terminate your employment. I've witnessed so much real issues that creates a very dangerous environment to work in yet management under the thumb of the HR department turns a blind eye and actual warns you to shut up or else. The people who suffer the most sadly is the folks needing the housing to begin with. 

I would recommend this organization as a good place to work as they have a very good team of caring and experienced people. If you have life experience and a willingness to share it I would reccomend applying at RainCity. 

Supporting and working alongside the program management (including PMs, APMs, Directors, and Senior Managers) and staff is rewarding, as you learn about their honourable work with their clients... still, there are pros and cons, as in any other workplace.

BUT it's a different story at head office; unfortunately, it's a place where terms like toxic, bureaucracy, micromanagement, abandonment, and lay-offs are common, with a lack of updated procedures and policies, and to that formula add some managers who "support" you but are already planning how to break you while you put out the daily fires.

Most of the program managers and coordinators 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Everything. Redundant management scheme. Mostly incompetent. Micromanaging, coupled with no standard operating procedures 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Toxic, toxic, toxic. They lie and throw each other under the bus. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Putting out fires, metaphorical, and actual. Making up stuff as you go along

This company has the right idea in mind, there needs to be more work done by staff for client needs, less time wasted from staff on janitorial duties(hire cleaners) and more time focused on actual client support. More personel hired that have lived history and life experiences, less personel hired that are just applying because of the decent wage.

.ng allowed to help residents, being limited to maintaining the buildings

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very little support from supervisors.  Some supervisors rarely showed up at the worksite.  Raincity looks good on paper but in reality it is just warehousing the poor.

Its mandate is well placed however at management level they are horrendous and have the highest turnover of staff of any organization I have ever came across all attributed to its management structure. There is a huge gulf between managers who have no relevant  life or work experience and the real workers at the coals surface.  They need a radical overhaul and should be approached with caution. 

Housing support workers aim to meet the needs of clients with significant housing barriers including mental illness, drug addiction and street entrenchment. This is a challenging field of work that requires a strong sense of ethics, compassion and stamina. I would recommend support work to those with a passion for social justice and alleviating homelessness.
