The administration is rude to employees and treats them poorly. If you are not permanent then you are treated like just a number no matter how long you have been there. They will blame you for everything and do not give you a chance to speak as they just scream or point their finger at you and blame you as they have no time for you. They will literally lie to your face as they don't care about anybody and even if you have disabilities etc. They have no integrity or compassion. Administrators act like they are on a pedestal and tend to forget where they come from. There are so many affairs going on between them that they could start a soap opera. They do not appreciate your time or your hard work and dedication. The most enjoyable part of the job is seeing students succeed and trying to help those needing more support succeed. You get to enjoy the diversity and should remain humble and kind.

During the 3 week summer classes the day was productive towards the student's learning. I had learned that all students are learning at different speeds and need to accommodate accordingly for their successes. The classes were well organized and management was great. The coworkers were supportive and enthusiastic. The hardest part was how short the opportunity was. The most enjoyable was being able to work alongside teachers in the local school board.

The most stressful part is how you can manage the class to keep student focused on learning process.

Day 1. before Christmas holidays

The children, making sure their needs were met.  Working for many principals and vice principals for 33 years, staff and parents.

Working without needed resources

Culture is wide ranged, work environment friendly

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Very busy, non stop, making sure the school runs smoothly.

Poor wages, trades are under paid. Literally paid less than a secretary and few dollars more than a custodian. No support from management, no team environment, expect to be scrutinized, micromanaged, and treated poorly. The facilities department is horribly run. The board claims children are the priority but that is a load of bull, the board office comes first above anyone else.

It is a decent school board to work for with room to grow. Departments can be quite cliquey, sometimes who you know matters in terms of advancement and references.
There are many fantastic people to learn from and work with. 
This school board “talks the talk” in regards to mental health but does not “walk the walk”. The same can be said about diversity in this workplace. Lots of talk, very little action.

Being an Educational Assistant and working with different age group of students from elementary school to high school is very rewarding. It feels amazing to see the difference you can make in the students futures of learning. Also to help them how to figure out how to learn in a way that is beneficial to the individual student.

It was nice being able to have consistency with the grades and courses I had to teach.

Teaching at more than one high school gives you a more open minded view of what each schools culture is all about.

If you work in resource you get a better handle on what the students need in a regular classroom setting.

Friendly staff, and a great place to work. I had difficulty getting full time work, I often only had one shift every other week.
The Principals called you directly, or a phone centre would call you in the morning to work that day; so you have to be known by the Principals to get work regularly.

Heavy favoritism in play in all departments.  Unless you are related, friends or a brown-noser, you will never advance.  Very disappointing management.  I would not recommend working at the RDSB office, unless you are looking at it for a temporary stepping stone.
