Ranch Ehrlo Society

I will never support or work for Ranch Ehrlo again. Management does support their staff, when clients are being mistreated, and extremely mistreated at that, you advocate - nobody listens! The clients with varying abilities try and use their words about things going on, management just says they have a varying ability & are making up stories, when in fact, they should be using their listening ears, and looking into things further… that would mean doing your job! Management will absolutely abuse their power, and drain the passion for helping others right out of you. H.R is very argumentative, and don’t have the first clue about working the front lines. There is a very high turn over rated with this organization, and there’s reasons for that!  Apply at a different company that will appreciate you, and not take advantage of your kindness, burn out is strong working for this organization, and they do not care, like they preach they do.  If your shift is done and you need to leave but the other staff is not there or they are short staffed, it is expected of you to stay, management will not come to relieve you.  If you have children to get home to, good luck being on time. If a client wrecks something in your vehicle, they will expect you to use your insurance, good luck trying to get them to cover the costs of the damage done. 

A typical day is being tasked with various odd jobs , on the spot from a YCL who answers to a manager who has no idea what is happening or going on. Or could care less. The learning is the on the job training working with people with disabilities but it's very dangerous as there is little no support or protection from violence. Found out the hard way. The hardest part of the job is realizing that on top of this a toxic work culture of behind the door friendships exist and you can never move up . At my house alone, the YCL was in a relationship with the manager and it made working very difficult to navigate. A lot of very questionable and ethical work practices make it tough to keep your chin up. The most enjoyable part is making a difference in people's lives that really need it. 

The position I had at Ranch Ehrlo provided me with excellent problem-solving skills, diversity awareness, and an increased understanding of how to assist youth who have been impacted by trauma and intergenerational trauma. It was a stressful work environment as you always had to be aware of your surroundings and of the youth you are caring for, as well as be equipped at verbal crisis intervention to de-escalate potential crises. Although stressful, it was a very family orientated position where there was continual acceptance and openness for individuals to voice any concerns one has, whether those concerns be personal or professional. It was very inclusive and individually orientated where it was not just a group home, but the individual needs of each youth participant were always considered.

The kids and experiences during cool activities.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The management and how they don’t value their employees. It doesn’t matter how much experience you bring, have or gain. You are just a number and replaceable. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The almighty dollar is more important than the clients. The ivory tower that upper management looks down from on the front line employees and judges them despite not having done the job in 10+ years. There is no culture.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Shift work, and working with at risk youth can be very rewarding.

Ranch Ehrlo is a great place to work. It is very challenging and will give you a huge appreciation for troubled youth and young adults. 
I was trained very well and was always supported by the great leaders at Ranch Ehrlo. I worked in the CVEP program and we strived to create a work culture that was both challenging to the client  but was also designed so the client would succeed. all staff worked closely together to insure the safety of the clients and our selves. the hardest part of the Job was to judge when the client my become aggressive or just disengage. The best part of the Job was to calibrate a Job well done and see the smile on the clients face when they can stand back and see what they had accomplished.

My life is done deal after they fired, I barely have 2 months balance in workpermit. They are toxic unless you are in inner circle. I was peacefully working in my previous organization with 19$ pay and good benefits, if I have committed to that workplace I would have been a permanent resident with a future in Canada. 
I was hired as PSW for one unit then moved to MPW. MPW is challenging and rewarding. They only provide quality Improvement chances for people in the inner circle. They don't care about your performance if you are not liked by a manager or YCL/PSL. They will bait you to make mistakes and just fire you. If you are an immigrant beware! bow down and throw self worth away every day while working there or you may end up like me who have nothing left.

I worked here for 6 months as a casual and found it very challenging to plan life. Casuals are expected to drop everything and come in at a moment’s notice. If you say no or object, you get written up. The FT/PT workers abuse this with constant call ins until casuals get fed up and leave.  Schedulers are very rude and don’t know how to talk to people with compassion at all. Very high stress environment with very little support from managers. High turnover rate of staff but will not improve their morale. The houses are very cliquey and this takes a toll on your mental health as there is constant gossiping among all three houses.

They preach relationships with children and thieir families, but have no problem transfering staff to other locations, despite staff protest because, "It doesn't matter what "you" think/want. It's what they want and feel is best."
They preach mental preparedness, but don't recognize mental depression.


In the family program, there was a great cooperative culture that promoted employees' skills and noticed when employees did a good job. The benefits were also quite good when you were in a full-time position. However, to advance past an entry-level position you cannot rely only on experience and skill to move into more senior positions, they required a specialized degree for most leadership positions but were inconsistent at times depending on the staff and their status with upper management.

Overall Ranch is a great place to work. Much of the job is helping youth and adults with disabilities to work on their challenges while nurturing their passions. Sure there is some toxicity just like everywhere else but if you love the job you tend to not notice the small things. Any harassment complaints or relationships in the workplace are handled by HR. Yes there is some aggression from youth/participants (hence the why they live in a therapeutic group home) but the training in de escalation is very good and it does work.
