Was hired as a welding shop helper, the $24.75 just barely made it worth it to even work there. There was a variety of different jobs like stud welding, grinding flanges, drilling holes, sanding, etc. A typical day is you showing up and ready to work at 6:45 am, your told what your job is for the day and you go at er. Eventually after you've been working for a month they train you to use the overhead cranes and eventually you start doing work outside in the storage area unloading massive sheets of steel and sorting into the correct storage area. That was definitely one of the better jobs there besides stud welding. After work you're pretty much come home black head to toe. The management was alright, they trained you good and always answered any questions you had. Some of the managers were annoying and always on your back grilling you for small stupid things. There is room for advancement, even as a shop helper. Every once in a while there will be an opening for a different position and you can apply for it and move your up in the company. And I also don't think they sponsor you to go to school for welding... so if that's what your after, look somewhere else. Anyways, for $24.75 I personally don't think it's worth it to work there, you could find a job working for the city or something that pays more without the dirty hard work. To make it worth it they should be paying at least $27-$28.


Specifically, for the Precast Plant, there is a strong commitment to teamwork and a great comradery amongst employees. Safety of employees is the number one focus, and it shows. Compensation is fair and the management goes out of their way to ensure existing and new employees are trained, respected, and given the resources they need to succeed. I find this particular plant isn’t afraid to try new things and research into how existing practices can be improved (nobody ties rebar by hand anymore!). You have to be a hard worker, but it’s an awesome place to work that offers safety bonuses and lots of opportunity to grow and learn. If you have a good attitude, show up every day, you will go far.  

I’ve worked at a lot of different welding jobs, had my fair share of bad bosses/bad work environment and this one really takes the cake. I wouldn’t recommend to anyone to work here, the work isn’t bad if you don’t mind crawling on your hands and knees all day watching a machine weld straight lines and grinding radius’s on flanges with a 9” grinder. Extremely high turn over rate, huge egos from some of their “top guys” on the floor. Foreman’s are very hard to please no matter what you do, a lot of the long term guys also like to stand around for hours talking while they watch you work. Expect to only be working night shift for a long time until you will have enough seniority to be able to get onto day shift.

The owners at Rapid-Span care about their employees and treat us all very well. One of the things that I stands out is the level of Team work, the employees work as a Team and help others out when and where needed.

Pay and benefits are excellent and we get other perks like free lunches, turkey's at Thanksgiving and Christmas and a variety of safety awards which can total $1000 per year.

The other cool thing is that when you drive around the Western Canada you get to drive over the bridges that we build, as there are around 9000 of them. 

Overall my experience at Rapid-Span has been great and would highly recommend to others.

The company does not support your mental health, or any health issues you have. If your issues become too much a burden, they let you go. There isn't much you can do about it as they list everyone as a laborer, so when you get demoted out of your position, you are still a laborer. Any promotable position is filled outside the company, which doesn't help employees feel like they are going to better their life. This is unfortunate, as i really enjoy the camaraderie with my fellow laborers, which doesn't outweigh the fact that they have too many managers/lead hands standing around trying to bark orders.    

Typical day starts off with a morning meeting then because they’ve fired the cleaning staff you get to clean the washrooms , lunch rooms etc. The plant manager / assistant plant manager could be more professional and not so down grading their employees. 

The only good thing of this place is some amazing workers other than that the good reviews are left by upper management, not one person can say good things about this company. 

The benefits are average could be better for the field we are in , the wages could be better as well to match inflation. Theres not much room for advancement here as stated in the other reviews.





This has been the best job I've had and I regret that I have to leave due to unrelated issues in my personal life.. I have been treated with respect and reminded that my hard work is appreciated.. When I have had to take time away I was allowed without question and never made to feel guilty as a result.. Overall I would 100% recommend this company to anyone who considers themselves a hard reliable worker. 

Built forms for Precast concrete panels. Different designs for bridges and structures. Management is very knowledgeable about their products and propoper work procedures. One of the best work sites/jobs I've had! The crews are very easy to get along with. Good clean work atmosphere. Hardest part of the job would be heavy lifting and thinking propoperly of the tasks at hand.

Fast-paced work environment where you hit the ground running.  Suitable training and supervision is provided but you've got to think on your feet to succeed.

Good pay and benefits for those that can cut it.  Somewhat flexible hours and overtime opportunities a nice bonus for work/life balance. 

The work is challenging but rewarding; no two days are exactly the same.

What was once a fun place to work has turned into an absolute disaster. Management is disrespectful, makes fun of and speaks poorly of employees. You are constantly pressured to push out product with limited staff and time. Overtime is REQUIRED and not an option. Has become a toxic place to work and a complete drain. Nothing is fixed properly but instead a bandaid thrown on it and called “good enough”. What a joke.
