I have been here for a few years now and have seen some changes in management - some of those who left were good people, but the changes have all been for the better.    Bumpy roads are finally starting to smoothen.     Still room for improvement, but this is not the workplace that it was a few years ago.

I'm not sure where complaints of nepotism come from.   Wages are OK, with most of the staff being unionized, having wages that were built upon from previous collective agreements, under the previous employer.   Before Raytheon got this contract, the previous employer could let people work as much as they wanted, because it could just be billed to the client.   That is probably one reason why that employer doesn't have the contract any more.    All of this is to say that overtime opportunities still exist for those who want to work it, but not to the same extent as years ago.   That has been really hard for some people to adjust to - understandably.

First and foremost, the people on the program really care about their work, for the most part.   Pride in what you do can be contagious ... and it can also make some people fell less comfortable, if you that isn't what you are like.

The amount of nepotism that happens here is ridiculous. You can have a minimal understanding and no experience in you're field, but still get hired because of who you know.

Management is very selective on who gets to WFH, even if you're job can be done remotely. I was unable to WFH to look after my kids on a PA day,  but my manager spent most of their summer working from their cottage. The incentive to come into the office is free coffee, but that doesn't put gas in your car or pay for a babysitter.

Management talks about respect, accountability, teamwork, etc. But when it comes down to it, it's all empty words. You can be a bully, but if approached by HR and deny it, they won't do anything. 

Every quarter there are "anonymous" employee surveys. But once the results are in, management wants to know who wrote what, and then they will be dealt with appropriately.  They want to keep a positive image, even it's nonsense. 

There is also no job security. If someone doesn't like you, you can be laid off in the drop of a hat. We should probably form a union to prevent that from happening.

I am absolutely disgusted and incredibly disappointed working here. 

In my 12 years at Elcan, i have seen people get away with bullying, harassment and just having a bad attitude everyday.  Even if an employee were to escalate their complaint to management or HR, it was always just swept under the rug.  I worked hard for that company, and when i left after 12 years, my salary was entry level.  the benefits are great!  Management not so much.  As well as the HR department, not one of them is approachable by any means.  Because our dept filed a complaint against a member of management, one of the HR team members called us a bunch of complainers and our complaint never got resolved, or even looked into.  
Great job security.  This job is cut out for a single individual with no kids or family, and can work unlimited overtime any time they ask.  If you are flexible and have no life, Elcan is the job for you!

Was called and offered a Warehouseperson job in my hometown, told my start date and wage.
Received a call a few days later saying there was a miscommunication, and I was denied the position due to Raytheon hiring a less experienced individual who had previously been with the prior company Nasittuq Corporation, this individual had to be repeatedly sent to NC North Bay Ontario to be retrained and retrained in Warehouse duties, this individual is now the LSS Manager, lmao
Alot of buddy buddy and family hiring in this area.
Raytheon has not been adhering to the mandatory hiring and training of Aboriginal individuals either!!! Apparently the federal Government cannot or will not enforce this!!
Bad company to have our national security run in the North!!!
Hope they soon lose the contract for NWS!!!

Richmond (Canada) office was an exception and was not indicative of other sites. 
At the time I was there, working on the Canadian Automated Air Traffic Control System (CAATS), my colleagues were from all over the world and were super smart. Forced me to raise my game in order to progress my career. 
Challenging, and fun. Great management who had your back and supported you. Work culture was very team based and team work was the highest value. It was definitely all for one and one for all. 
Was devastated when Raytheon Corporate shut us down in 2006 and certainly had no respect for the US exec team in the way it was done.
My ratings are for what was our local Canadian management.   If I had to rate corporate then it would not look good.

Manager love micromanagement, and treat employee in differential way with preference to  the employee who show loyalty to him  not the company. 

Manager enjoys to belittle his employee and will tell there is a lot of work to do , but no work comes your way and then he will ask you why aren't you working when the stakeholder don't invite to meeting and don't send tasks 
no leadership , no organization , no fairness in work load....very discouraging

Avoid the Calgary location , very bad culture.
They monitor your screen and emails 5 days a week . They will ask you about every email you sent . A lot of micromanagement.
A lot of employee go on sick leave, maybe 15 to 20 % are on permanent sick leave

Senior English Language Training (ELT) Aviation and Development Specialist
The contract assignment was to function as an English Language Senior Training Aviation and Development Specialist. Basic instruction for ANSF personnel, and to mentor the local national English language instructors. However, the Afghanistan contract was cancelled in the month of December 2013, due to U.S. budget cuts and U.S. military withdraw. My contractual research and developmental studies for Raytheon continued U.S. state side with the development of instructional ELT Aviation English curriculum lessons for AMT professionals.

As the Logistics Specialist I was responsible for supporting the Engineering Management with engineering resource planning, financial and metric analysis required for the quantitative operation of the engineering department.
As the Executive Administrative Assistant I supported the General Manager with various high level administrative duties including: meeting planning and minutes, travel arrangements, expense reporting, schedule management, and preparation of internal and external communications and reports.

As one of the trainers said, it's a 'sink or swim' culture. If you're in the wrong place at the wrong time, you're the target. Some managers are excellent and you have to sacrifice your position or your hours to get on their team after you've identified them. The small majority of managers are terrible at everything from communication to needs understanding.

Slow pace which makes you feel like you learn slowly too. Heavy nepotism higher up. Most technical workers are all severely underpaid for their value and there are zero raises apart from below inflation "cost of living" bumps. 

Overall, just a good place to get a year or two in and then find somewhere that actually values you. You can be directly responsible for making this place a lot of profit, but you will get nothing for it to keep you motivated and will slowly become less productive/caring until you fit the slow low productivity mould that majority of workers are in.
