Real Food for Real Kids

It's (mostly) a good company that has a more genuine mission than other food companies I have worked for. They really want to change kids relationship to food. You believe you are working for a place out to change lives, just like Unicef. IF I was interning or summer jobbing here, this is a great place.

However for anyone who is not single, wants to own a condo some day, and wants to travel abroad once a year, this place doesn't compensate you to get all that.. Most of the long time employees have 2nd jobs or side gigs... It's hard to afford any of the good healthy food they encourage you to eat, on what youre paid. The owners preach eating and living good, but you arent paid to the point you can afford good chemical free meats or veg every day. You pretty much have to grow your own healthy food from what they pay. The benefits arent that great either, but it's a mom & pop place so that's that.

There is organized chaos here, but its a chance for people to shine and prove their worth, just remember you wont get rewarded as much as you think you should be. Maybe a bonus (just) at end of year, but your salary is low. There is lots of gimmicks with the benefits, ways for them not to give it to you: they have RRSP match but you need to be in company 2 years to get the money, you need to last passed probation to get reibursed for safety shoes (and per 2 years in a wet sloshy work place), you get health spending but only on small things..

You almost feel like you're working for a charity, feels good but financially not long term prospect. They do a good job of reminding you, this is not just about money (except for the owner who likes watching the pennies).

The free lunches are not guaranteed, whoever makes it later is not guaranteed lunch, and there is no control how much each person takes. So early bird gets as much worm as they want.

There is favoritism going around, and some people are immune to HR issues. If you drink the Kool Aid, you will get the owner's attention as a "true RFRK'er" (ie: on beckon call for extra work and misc duties outside your pay)


I worked for the pack team.  It's not a long term position, but what do you expect?  It's a minimum wage job packing food into bins.  Go back to school if you want a real job.  Your only chance for advancement is to work yourself to the bone in hopes upper-level management notices you.  

Team was hit or miss.  Some amazing coworkers, and some bad ones.  Management was practically nonexistent.  They just hid in the office never came out to help, even on bad days.  

Only the supervisor was decent.  She seemed to really care, but wasn't supported.  Theres strong preference for all other teams except the pack team. Unreasonable expectations for pack team, but theya re the most underappreciated IMO.  The job isn't bad but pay is low for the workload.  You'd be better off working at a fast food place for this money.     Agree with others here that the hours are inconsistent but sometimes its because of the bad workers I mentioned + workload is never the same + unreliable staff = disaster.  

I hope things have gotten better because I think the company isn't bad overall.  The mission is a noble one. They have bonuses, bbq's, parties for staff.   and the pack supervisor and owners were nice. 



I worked at RFRK as a pack team member. Apply with caution if you can’t wait for a 500 dollar credit after 2 years of working full time 8-12 hour shifts Monday to Friday. Apply with caution if you can’t keep up with toxic work environments, which include sexism within Pack team members, Chefs, Drivers and Management. As well as subtle racism. Also apply with caution if you enjoy free lunches, there is never enough for every staff member in every team. So free lunch IS NOT GUARANTEED. Apply with caution if you expect this job to give you time off for vacation. Only favourites of the supervisor or management will allow that to happen. 

Day starts with packing food/snacks and ends with packing and a bit of a clean up at the end of the day. After a while the job gets really mundane. I would say more like a warehouse jobs. There is no room for growth at all. I have seen several employees quit because of the same reason. People who have worked there forever got treated like garbage after it went big and didn't promote anyone instead they hired new people for the new posts.

The organization is going through a transition phase and the top management are clear about what they want to achieve, but the means of achieving it is unclear. 

Very toxic work environment, work with a team but only a couple people actually work. Very unfair work load person to person. Management plays favourites and turns a blind eye to things that should be dealt with. The team lead does not do what a regular team lead should be hired for, very lazy. Daily work load is inconsistent, leading to inconsistent hours. New hires usually get fired or quit within a few months.

The time commitment for the financial return makes this job less than worthwhile, the office is not supportive and there is no chance of advancement. This is a good position if you are a stay at home Mom and you want to be present at your childs' school.

The management won’t even care for you, they just work and leave, no recognition, they do always stay in their office like too much load work but, the fact that they can’t stay on track to their workers. I wouldn’t recommend this job!
It is my regret accepting this kind of job.
As well as the culture that they tolerated.

No room for growth, if you’re not in a certain click, Or a certain department then you’re pretty much nonexistent and do all the work, people talk about you behind your back complain about you for no reason because you do your work better than others it’s very toxic.
If you speak to your manager about something personal or private be sure everyone else will know
