Pros:
 -very challenging case work requiring creative and resourceful thinking 
-health benefits 
-Work in community 
-work independently 
-management, administration, IT and staff are kind and respectful. 
- very interesting and diverse work 
Cons:
-Large work load not always evenly/fairly distributed among case workers (burnout very quickly)
-stats are reviewed frequently and pressure to meet quota is high and not always reasonable 
- high turnover of staff makes the work load more difficult to manage 
- pay does not fairly represent the high work load and level of care provided.
-management are supportive of staff but are under pressure from upper management to meet quotas
- more support should be provided to frontline staff to prevent burnout and vicarious trauma 
-a lot is expected from front line workers who often work in extreme circumstances 
-burnout is very very real.  
- often working alone in the community can have benefits to this and can be challenging or have risks too.  


I applied through an agency and got an interview with Reconnect after 2 days. After the interview they offered me a position for Intake. ( red flag).  They don't train new staff properly, they just throw you in the job and pressure you to learn so much material in a week. There is no support from staff, they are unhappy and stressed from the volume of work that they cant even be patient to train you. Management is never available or support.
The intake worker job is basically a call center, you are receiving a high volume of non stop calls from the public inquiring about programs etc. Some callers have mental health and seniors so they call you all day because they have no one to talk to. Some callers are aggressive and rude and management wont do anything about it. Overall this is not a legitimate and organized job.  You are doing the role of 3 people for a low salary and high stress.

I worked for Reconnect for a number of years. I recently left my role due to moving out of town. 

Throughout my time with them, I witnessed and experienced a lot of change and growth within the organization. The changes were positive as it provided an opportunity for staff to learn new things but it also impacted client service in an amazing way, by providing clients and the community with more resources and support. 

The work is challenging but equally rewarding. Expectations are high working at Reconnect but that goes in hand with what it should be working in healthcare. As professionals, the lives of many vulnerable people, are in our hands. 

Reconnect is a fantastic organization and I would highly recommend anyone that is passionate about community health care and is looking to work with good people, to apply.

They use and dump you without no reasons, I could remember they fired a staff that has been working with them for over 13years just because a client fell, no investigation no warning and also the staffs gossip and snitch a lot also they want to know your private life. The one you think is your friend might be your worst enemy. The permanent staff disappeared during the worst Covid outbreak and came back after to be forming boss and claiming seniority. The management gave a lump sum compensation to all the PSW permanent staff while they ignore the contract and agency staff that risked their lives during the pandemic.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The benefits. You get full benefits at place

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Managers don't have the appropriate skills ti manage staff. 
Workload can be difficult to finish because it's too much 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
If you are lucky you have good co-workers, but the company doesn't care too much about its staff. Even though you hear the CEO talking wonders about how they do. 
People get fired easily . 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Busy from morning to afternoon. You really work your 8 hours every day

On April 9th, I attended a hiring event that Reconnect Community Health Services hosted. The event was very well organized and they were very communicative leading up to the event. I received an email with instructions on the location, what i needed to bring with me and was told that the event was following a first come-first serve model, which i appreciated knowing as there was a bit of a wait. 

At the event, the person that greeted me was friendly and i was given an application to complete. The interviewers were knowledgable and welcoming. Overall, it was a great experience and i wanted to provide my feedback. 

The management is more concerned about the number of clients seen and discharges over comprehensive, quality care for clients. Managers feel pressured by top brass to ride the staff about numbers....barely connecting with staff for clinical supervision. Staff I turn struggle to provide good quality service and still work within confines of the work day and maintain tight deadlines for paperwork.  

This company has a very high turn over right because they can’t retain their employees. The salary is the lowest in the industry and the expectation is too high. The workload is increasingly demanding and the management don’t support you. Management and HR don’t respect or value the opinions or feedback from front line staff.  Employees becomes very burn out and end up either resigning or taking a sick leave. 

Dont work here. As a contract worker i was lead to believe that when a permanent position became open (for the exact same position i was doing) i would get it. That applying was just a formality. Instead they hired someone extremely incompetent for the job. It was very hard to watch someone with very limited skills get a job you were much better suited for. They also dont treat their contract staff very well. Theres also no parking at eithr of their locations.

Great staff doing important work. The CEO holds Town Hall meetings, providing staff with an opportunity to provide feedback on their experience with the company. Only downfall is that salaries and increases are determined by a union agreement, but are fair for the work that is done. Culture of the company is great. I was a PSW and was provided with an opportunity to become a Case Worker, which I am grateful for.
