Red Cross

A very cool oppourtunity and such an honour to help out during the pandemic. I got to go places I never thought I'd go and meet people I never thought I'd meet. Your colleagues are so amazing and wonderful!
However there are too many departments and they don't all talk to one another. It took over 2 months between the time I was hired and when I started actually doing work. Also if you request a day off you will get calls asking who authorized your day off, asking you to change plans or telling you cannot have the day off (if you're lucky its all three from three different people!)

Red Cross, wasn't a job, it was a learning course that thought our health and safety after hours at my school.  

A typical day at the Red Cross would be showing up after school hours and sitting on a chair, looking at an active board, writing notes and learning new things. 

I learned a lot about health, the human body and security, especially towards kids. 

There was a large variety of cultures at Red Cross. 

The hardest part of the course would have to be, not having a desk. It was very annoying to have to hold all my notes and papers on my lap, I was very uncomfortable. 

The enjoyable for of red cross would have to be, learning new things and also at the end of the week if you attended all the days of the course. They would give you a certificate.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The drive between clients  it was a period of rest that was very much needed

Scheduling can put someone on your schedule that is beyond the time allotted

Work environment varies culture is dependent upon the household working in

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Go go and go. It’s usually a race against the clock as arrivals are determined by traffic and last job time

The people i met working for Red Cross were wonderful. Very supportive and patient. The hardest part of job were the long hours and best part was the clients and getting to learn about different cultures. Management changed often so not having consistency was a drawback. The diverse background of the Red Cross Workers was a definite asset as they came from every walk of life.

Great people, great organization,good culture. enjoyed my time there a lot.
the work is fast paced, and very physical. you have a lot of interaction with clients, Volunteers, and healthcare professionals. working for an Organization like the Red Cross goes beyond just a job, you are helping to make a difference in peoples lives for the better, I miss working there very much.

I enjoyed training under the First Aid team at the Red Cross very much. The people that I learned from were incredibly helpful and non judgemental. They positively impacted the way that I handle stressful or emergency situations based on the lessons that were taught. Childcare training through the Red Cross is a program that I would highly recommend.

Excellent management.. days only no weekends

Client personalities .. several clients per day

Hours are 8:30-4:30 Mon to Fri

Working at the red cross as an instructor basically means finding your own teaching jobs and clientele.  I have learned that I work better one on one in a service industry and public speaking is not my area of strength. I have many years experience as an RN and currently semi retired.

During my time at the red cross I was giving the opportunity to improve my leadership skills and become a vital team member. I was working along side some amazing team members that made the work get done efficiently and smoothly

Looks good from the outside but internally very different. Often decisions made no sense, management plays favorites not based on quality  or quantity of work.Many staff have left for better pay and hours.That says    a lot.
