What is the best part of working at the company?
It was better,  now they're proving that good intentions don't always provide good results. by hiring and promoting people who are not ready for leadership roles. The staff turnover rate is the highest I've seen it in over 10 years, much of it due to  poor management-staff relationships.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Experienced staff not feeling valued and appreciated. Some management apparently feel threatened by competency shown by employees.  Inconsistencies in expectations. Favored employees given tasks in which they are inexperienced, and experienced staff have to correct their mistakes before doing their own work. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It used to be a great place to work. Staff got along and assisted each other and worked as a team. Now, everyone is looking out for themselves and if you're collateral damage,  too bad. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
You no longer know what to expect. That used to be exciting and challenging when we were a team, but now it feels as though, you're on your own.

One of the best work environments I have had, CO-OP has a pleasant and camaraderie feel to the work environment, with more focus on customer assistance, promoting local businesses and providers, and assisting the community and its people, than in almost all the other places I have worked. 

Being unionized, even part time staff get partial benefits, above minimum wage, and paid vacation time.

Lower sales pressure than many stores, there is some up-selling, however the items being up-sold often have a portion of their profits assisting local charities, like our socks for Siloam or our savings for schools coupon sheets.
Generally a good homegrown feel for a store that (while still a profit making business) tries to help out where they can.

Worked at one of grocery stores for two years on the night shift. Between a schedule that changed every week and would sometimes change when i was on days off, ( It was of course my fault that no one told me about it while i was away.) Supervisors that would threaten to fire me for so much as asking questions about the job, when i was still new or when the store changed layout. 

The main store management however was the worst, refusing to respond to calls, disregarding reports of abusive coworker behavior as "That's just how they are" and "Oh no one else says they act like that" and the worst of all was refusing to give out proper dental and other unionized benefits your entitled to after 3 months. Which meant i was never able to properly receive the information to use such benefits.

Overall the company is too busy trying to preen itself like a bird to look better on the outside than safeway, but the core is rotten something awful.

A typical day at Co-op consisted of coming in full uniform, making sure the lot was clean at all possible times and serving/pumping gas to the customers. Summer was an enjoyable work load. Winter time however was a very heavy work load which consisted of 8 hour shifts, with most of the time spent outside in - 40 weather. I got to learn how to pump gas, do oil changes as well as washer fluid changes. Certain shifts me and other employees we're either responsible for indoor or outdoor closing duties. Both we're fairly simple, consisted of cleaning the lot, making sure the air hose was put away as well as the vacuum hose. Dumping the squeegee buckets and bringing them inside. Indoor closing duties consisted of cleaning the inside area, making sure everything was stocked for the workers coming in in the morning and mopping the floor. Perfection, to the best of my ability.

The work is easy and simple nothing to complicated.

But its super busy most of the time and understaffed, the co workers are great but other then that the job is terrible.

Little to no pay and no real benefits, 

We are covered up to 700$ a year for medical we have no dental coverage but medical can be used for dental but that's still terrible coverage.

Head office people do not care about there employees at all and there is no room for advancement.

It's a terrible company to work for do not work here, little to no pay company's treats there employees like trash and its understaffed and no real benefits or advancement opportunities.

Went through 3 mangers 1st one keep borrowing money for his gambling addiction 2nd manager was actually really good and care about there employees and current one is alright...

-Typical day at work as a cashier would be running the till, greeting customers  cleaning and giving the best customer service possible. Also filling out different paperwork and doing counts.
-I have worked for previous Co-op's and have loved it, after this one in particular definitely ruined my opinion 
- Management is pretty bad, does not value or actually respect the workers more so tolerates them. Does not take into consideration how busy a Gar Bar can actually get when daily tasks don't get completed. Makes rude comments about employees to other employees, not very professional or well run. Not respectful of other peoples time.
-Hardest part of the job would be knowing there are never any raises or getting paid above minimum wage.
-Most enjoyable part of the job is even though there is horrible management, co-workers make the work days very enjoyable

Constantly moving on your feet outside dealing with a mixed bag of customers. Traffic gets incredibly busy around rush hour but is otherwise unpredictable. Sometimes you'll deal with a car every 10min and some days especially in the winter all the pumps are full for the majority of the shift and you don't stop moving until your break. Customers can be insanely rude and aggressive or can have a nice conversation with you and tip. Management is largely unsympathetic, coworkers can make or break your shift. Decent winter work jackets are available but no guarantee it'll fit well. A variety of shift start times makes it an ok job for a student but be prepared to work hard outdoors for minimum wage.

Not a great place to work for. Open favouritism with giving certain employees great hours, extra shifts, filling in for other departments, shifts with premiums etc while telling others that they don’t have any hours to give anyone. Not referring to seniority, and not just me. Coworkers said the same
They like to keep things understaffed to save $ and pull people from other departments when it becomes too ridiculous or chaotic. Typical with retail, but still annoying to see when everyone always needs more hours
They didn’t seem to treat their staff in other departments all that well either
Works fine if you are a student, living with parents, have worked there for 20 yrs already, or have other jobs to cover your bills

Coop used to be all about customer service and being local and invested in the community. Now all they care about is who can push the most secondary sales. They seem to enjoy taking advantage of the few workers who work hard and give good effort. Only recognition and respect goes towards those who push secondary sales and hand out surveys, which i understand is apart of working retail but no one in management cares about providing quality customer service, something that used to be a cornerstone of Red River Coop. Ever since new CEO took over coop has been going downhill
