A very fast paced vegetable packing plant. Working with a variety of different packing styles of cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers and mini cucumbers on a production line gave me a wide knowledge of the packing business. Although you are assigned a certain area of the plant, you have oppurtunity to move to various other area's too. I have worked in all area's but specialized in mini cucumbers. I was given oppurtunity to move up to lead hand in this area which gave me more experience in the supervisory side. I was responsible for printing of Greenhouse Grower information and inventory of product pre and post packaging on the computer system. I was to ensure orders were filled by deligating variety of people to do various tasks. The hardest part of the job is the possibility of long hours in the summer and less hours in the winter. The most enjoyable part of the job is working with a variety of people that speak different languages and come from different cultures that are willing to teach you if you are willing to learn.

There isn't much I can say that is good about them unfortunately, wages are low and they do not respect their staff. your typical day would be standing at a machine for 10 hours a day and they have a policy of mandatory overtime, even if you have commitments you will still have to stay. your work week is a 10 day cycle. they seem to think that they can get away with this even though it does not follow the Alberta Employment Standards. Most of the time you don't know if your having to work over time till the last 3 hours of the day.

Its a small company trying to compete in a big market. All the growers are trying to hold it to together since minimum wage went up but they aren't really succeeding. Too many fingers in the cookie jar I say, with bloated salaries and a Board of directors all taking a slice of the pie. This leaves the crews working oddball part time hours at minimum wage. I saw a lot of people not able to pay their bills working here. Everyone was nice though, they all try to make you feel at home. Not a bad place, but it does get hot in the warehouse.

I have worked on and off with Red Hat, and much can change within just one or two seasons. What one person experiences may never happen to any other group the next season. Example someone claiming 10 day shifts (fabricated) has never happened. However they do have 10 hour shifts from time to time, currently they are having 6 and 2 shifts. eventually it will be 4 and 3.

It's a place where they come and go. I loved it there moved my way up to Supervisor. It's very fast paced but can be fun at the same time. You work with many great people and well some you want to bang your head off the wall. I love to keep busy at work and there I was busy and always a different day at work. I miss it there but life happened and moved away.

They train you to pack the vegetables properly and how to palletize them properly. Although you may end up standing still on concrete in one spot for many hours a day, you are required at times to move heavy pallets and boxes around the warehouse.

I enjoyed working at Red Hat, the staff and management were great and the work place was always fun.

Friendly staff.  Every second weekend off. Have benefits and a rrsp retirement plan. A comfortable place to work

Good place to work. Seems to not go by how good you work or good at ones jobs to get ahead.but is all a pretty good spot to try something new.........
