A typical day is you walk in and sht hits the fan. The supervisors are overall great, management is so so. When I started it had a great team (aside from one chick) and then she left and they hired some bozo who has anger issues. (Main reason I quit is because he would put animals lives at risk and management did NOTHING). There’s a lot of expectations but as long as you have a good work ethic it’s easy to manage. As long as you can follow protocols and don’t mind the emotional turmoil of constant d e ath you’ll do great. There’s little support but the good officers there are amazing (or were, all of the good ones except one quit, excluding higher ups) nights are my biggest con as you are scheduled for Atleast 13 hours and only paid for 8. I still have ptsd from the pager phone. But I highly recommend this job to anybody with half a brain cell and strong mental health. Every officer has an expiration date just depends how soon yours is :)

A typical day at work can lead to complete burnout and a mental breakdown, or can leave you feeling fulfilled and accomplished.
I've learned that animals can be volatile, and people can be more so. Sometimes you're in more danger from your coworkers than you are from a feral cat.
Management prioritizes the bottom line and the shelter's social media presence over the long-term health of employees.
The culture of this workplace is close-knit and this can lead to gossip about those excluded from the inner circles. Everyone is stressed about their daily duties and regularly takes it out on co-workers.
The hardest part of the job is saying "Good-bye" to an animal you have come to love. 
The most enjoyable part of the job is saying "Good-bye" to an animal when they have been successfully adopted... Especially if their time at the shelter has been strenuous.

If you love animals, this is not the job for you. It was the most emotionally taxing job I've ever had in my entire life. Not to mention physically exhausting. You barely EVER get time to breathe and if it's not an aggressive dog being brought in, it's puppies dedicating everywhere or vets toting around dead carcasses of animals you cared for personally. Almost everyone there is jaded and rude, save for 3 or 4 select employees. Pay is fair but be prepared to be sore in physical stance and in heart ache.

Their dog training is a great tool that they have for people who have never worked with them before, however it takes significantly too long to receive that training. For example, I waited I believe around a month or so to receive it and my assignment that was assigned with this volunteer work was done in 2 months or not much longer than. So, being pressed for time I had to work with cats which I was significantly allergic to. 

One cat happened to scratch me, and I went into a bloated and suffocating reaction and all the official staff could do was wipe down my arm with an antibacterial solution.

It can be a rewarding place to work, taking care of animals and helping them find their way into their forever homes. Yet, it can be very mentally/emotionally taxing. Steps need to be taken to separate your personal life and feelings from your work if you wish to make it a career and stay long term. Dealing with the management (which is very top heavy) is like walking around on eggshells; needing to be careful who you talk to and what you say. 

Management has no respect for their employees. They believe that all their staff are liers and thieves and do not hesitant to say so openly around their staff. They micro manage to they point u feel like a two year old child. Management olnly cares about their bottom line and treat the animals like a comdoty.  When managment does not like you they will make your life miserable until you quite

The management at the time was very hard to work with. The job itself was emotionally and physically draining, and the management's lack of compassion towards the kennel technicians was horrible. 

There was many instances of bullying in the work place from the management, and it was a very bad work environment. 

Great experience working with the animals in the shelter, and a rewarding job. They just need better management to keep their good employees.

The most enjoyable part of the job was the fact that I could work with animals and enjoy being around such amazing staff and volunteers with beautiful hearts who also share the same love of animals as I do. The passion these people have for these animals gives me the motivation to work harder and it motivates me to be a better person.

The day starts by cleaning animals kennels , feeding animals and giving medications to animals needing medication.  I have some great co workers.  Hardest part of my job is seeing animals come in neglected or abused and some animals who are so ill they have to be euthanized.

The management is very good at what they do and are very accommodating if you need an extra day here and there, the people you work with are also quite awesome to be around!
