I worked with Regina Public Schools for the bulk of my professional career and I would not trade that time or experience for any thing. As with all jobs this one had it's challenging experiences but I feel I am a stronger and more well rounded person having gone through all of the character building experiences I did with Regina Public. I learned perseverance, patience and management skills within my roles with Regina Public and I feel these and all of the other skills I learned will serve me well in the future - whichever direction I may find myself going. The most enjoyable part of working for Regina Public was working with the students and staff in all of the different schools I was in. There were so many different types of people that I cannot help but attribute my ability to get along well with most anyone to my years within these school environments. I truly think the hardest part of working for Regina Public Schools was leaving. When I moved to the U.S. it was for more lucrative opportunities for my family and I do not regret this move (in fact I see it as simply the next important step in my life's journey) but leaving Regina Public was difficult.

This is a nice environment to work in as a lot of the teachers are very nice and the daytime hours are super convenient. However as a substitute it's very tough to make a living. There are a lot of days off for professional development, holidays, Christmas, Easter and spring break, summer, all which you get no pay during. Your days are already only six hours and you just have so many days off. It's better suited for someone who doesn't need to live off this wage alone. Union dues make wage even lower

The help and care you provide for children, and the chance of making a difference in someone’s life. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
 Childhood trauma and not be able to save them all.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
School setting. Fast paced. Often unappreciated.

Working with children with a variety of needs. May need help learning or behaving possibly with both

Friendly staff, lots of learning opportunities

No guaranteed hours as a substitute

Very busy, on your feet all day

Pretty straightforward employer because they are a school district, but they suffer having a lack of career enhancing opportunities. I would work again.

Loved working with kids. Being able to see where some of these children come from and what they do not have but how happy they are to come to school for balance, normalcy, structure and routine is truly amazing.

60% of time is for cleaning duties school interior and exterior also playgrounds. 30% of time for building management duties which include general carpetry, light plumbing, lights changing etc.

Great for parents of young kids as you work school hours and have the same holidays. A rewarding job because you see the kids progressing every day.  Days go by fast because you are always kept busy.

I did my major practicum placement here working with a school counsellor and it was fantastic! This practicum placement taught me a lot and the support from colleagues was great!
