Hello, this review is about my personal experience at this department within this organization. At first it was great, I had an amazing time working out of the Mississauga sites as a driver and machine operator, along with being a supervisor later on. Also, I always enjoyed my time in Caledon whenever I had the chance to operate out of those sites. Amazing company of folks at these sites. However, I was stationed at the Brampton sites and was not pleased with the style of management at all. Very unprofessional, rush you, put words into your mouth, forgetful and then will try to argue it, play games behind your back to get you in trouble, talk down on certain groups of folks when they ascend within the organization, target certain folks by gender/ethnicity, very disrespectful, will try to disrupt others promotions, unpaid overtime, very high school-ish if you catch my drift. All in all, I would suggest anyone who is seeking employment or a career at this organization that they SHOULD DEFINITELY APPLY but make sure you always look out for the “Entry Level Dept.”, so that way y’all will have a better experience. This was my first time working for an organization of this standard but I heard that there are better departments within and different organizations out there to explore by some good fellas of mine, so I will definitely exercise both options. I was there as a summer student for four months. My days were long-winded and boring mainly because they didn't have much for me to do ALL SUMMER, I believe it was because my department wasn't really prepared for my arrival. I had assumed I would have some work to do within the first few weeks, but the entire 4 months went by without me ever actually feeling like I was contributing a lot. 

It was a good way to make money over the summer but the lack of work and interaction with other human beings left a bad taste in my mouth. The people I worked with were very nice, but I did feel a slight disconnect..I'm at a point where I don't feel comfortable asking my supervisor for a reference for the simple fact that I didn't do much work over the summer and I'm afraid that might influence what he says about me EVEN THOUGH I put forth my best effort on the little tasks I was assigned over the four months. Additionally, I had very little interaction with my supervisor.

All in all, I don't think I would come back here again if I could help it. I came here wanting to learn more about my field and create some solid contacts in the industry, but ended up learning next to nothing with really no solid contacts that I would feel comfortable calling up over the next few years.

Summer student positions with the Region are a great way to gain experience and to save money for college and university. You are able to learn from those who you support in your job and the positions are specialized in a way that you can still contribute to your department but you are not put in a position above your capabilities. I've had great supervisors who have supported my career goals and provided me with information on how to grow within the company. However, experience dealing with HR was less than satisfactory (ex: my emails were ignored, I was told that my request was being reviewed when it wasn't, I was not called back when I was told I would be, felt as though I was "annoying" them when trying to get a proper response) and I feel as though my poor experience with HR will negatively affect me when I apply to external career opportunities with the Region outside of summer student positions. Nevertheless, I would definitely recommend applying for the summer student positions at the Region.

Working for the Region of Peel was a very rewarding experience.  Not only did it provide me with the opportunity to grow intellectually but also grow as a person.  The clientele we deal with is very multi cultural and the majority of our calls come from those who are very familiar with the 911 system.  Its compassion, education and being able to see where they are coming that was able to provide me with the true empathy that is required in this job.  Yes we do have those "hot" calls and are required to think quickly and resort back to that door in our mind that reads "VSA" or "Child birth" or "Acute CHF", but in all honesty the majority of our calls is really just talking to people and having the ability to calm them down and tell them that you are there only to support them.  The Region of Peel appreciates these values and allowed us to take that extra time on a call if required to help those who needed the extra time.

I am a workaholic, love being busy and complete all the task given in time.  I am very organized, accurate and flexible

I have learned a lot of database software through my 6 years experience within the Region

I work cooperatively with the Management team.  

I am so blessed to have such excellent co-workers in my entire job career.  It takes time to adjust and be there for the team whenever there is crisis.  I have been there and I know what it takes to be helpful, kind and considerate.

The hardest part of the job is that I can never say no to anyone.  However busy I am, if there is a colleague who needs help and who is behind in her work if we have a deadline, I will be there to help.  

The most enjoyable part of the job is that we all work as one big family.  Very supportive and helpful.

I absolutely loved this job. My typical day would be just to show up, everyday was an adventure and I loved being apart of it. I loved meeting all types of different people. My Job was to register everyone who wanted to get the H1N1 shot. Another part of my job was to walk around the waiting room to make sure that everyone who received the shots were ok. I loved what I did.

I learned that not everyone handles getting needles accordingly, some people can handle it, others can't. I learned how to use the system

The management team was AMAZING I have no complaints.


The co-workers really helped each other out, the nurses also supported each other which was very nice to see.

The hardest part of the job was learning how to deal with different types of people

The most enjoyable part of my job was everything. I honestly loved everything about it.

My main duty was to identify downspouts still connected to the sanitary sewage collection system in selected basement flooding areas of the Region. All this information was entered into the Region of Peel system. Hansen Information Technologies is the program used by the municipalities in Ontario to save most of their data.

Inspectors for the Wastewater Section of the Environmental Control Division identify companies that might discharge wastewater with a high potential of contamination.  While working for the Region of Peel, I spent a lot of time working with the Sampling staff collecting representative wastewater samples from the companies identified by the Inspectors. While collecting wastewater samples I had to follow the correct procedures in order to obtain representative and reliable samples.

Marketing and Comms can’t seem to keep skilled leadership to help guide the organization. Current director has no real comms experience but is a fill in for the previous woman who was skilled and experienced. The organization seems to lack vision and leadership as to who the stakeholders and residents are and how the residents of Peel need to be engaged. Friends help friends move around in the organization. Real talent and skills are needed and they are stuck with unionized workers who are just looking to retire . No one is really motivated to work beyond their 9-5 hours. Actual FT jobs are limited because of low attrition. No one leaves the Region because retirement is waiting. In the meantime, actual jobs are being performed by contract workers with no real job security .

I worked at The Region of Peel as a contract Production Designer from June 2019 – January 2020 and I have to say that it's one of the best places I've worked in my life. 

The management is very easygoing and they are not that strict. Just make sure you finish your projects on time and follow the office rules. The staff are very polite, professional and friendly and they get along very well. 

If they are issues like coming late to work, just make sure you report to your supervisor earlier.

Best of all, the environment is very clean and you get a nice view of the Bramalea City Centre. There is even a cafeteria downstairs with an air condition. If you want a Government Job, Peel is the best place to work. 

Arrived early every day and planned daily routine. Dealt with the public on a daily basis by phone, email, in person and/or fax. Entered immunization for all students and kept family up to date with records and made sure all students were up to date. Supervisors were very supportive of the staff and myself. My co-workers were very supportive and very knowledgeable in their work and providing exceptional customer service as well. The hardest part of the job was having to dealing with parents and/or students that did not understand why the Region of Peel was contacting them and felt "threatened". The most enjoyable part of the job was when all students were returned to school and Immunization records were up to date till the next Screening.
