Reimar Forming and Construction

I began working in the field working in the yards assembling high rise concrete form work, as well organizing materials for shipping to various job sites. I also worked as a laborer on various construction sites stripping scaffolding and shoring, cutting re-bar, demolition, clean up, as well as working in a team pouring concrete.
Following my field experience I was approached by management to work in the office to help with supply chain management and assisting in project coordination and estimation. I was laid off as projects slowed and fewer projects were on the table.
I learned how the multifaceted, multidisciplinary commercial construction industry functions in and out of the office. More specifically I learned that I want to have a career in the construction industry.
Reimar has a strong management structure and is very family oriented. I found all my coworkers to be amicable and friendly and also took the time to include me in the company culture.
The hardest part of the job was tight timelines and keeping track of concurrent tasks.
What I enjoyed most was the team atmosphere, tight timelines and multitasking.

They under pay their guys significantly based on industry standard and they swamp them with work that they cannot realistically finish in the restrictive timelines that they are given. During my time there we were forced to scour the hotels we were building for screws that weren't there, seriously handicapping our work and time as we needed to leave the site to go and get more. This would then be punishable by the higher ups who don't really seem to care that they are the ones responsible for the shortage in the first place. You are constantly being handicapped by the company itself and then wen you can't perform under the horrible conditions that you are provided; you are sent to a place called the yard. This place is meant to weed out the weak, and they seemingly use it as a disciplinary tool where they drop your wages and make you do grunt work that is borderline ridiculous for long hours of the day. Was not a supporting environment, and if it wasn't for the site supervisor that was my direct boss i would have left immediately.

My day at Reimar consists of reading all email correspondence sent to the President of the company.  I will print all drawings received and update drawing packages, I will alert the President of any emails that require his immediate attention, this may include setting up appointments or responding to emails on his behalf.

The employees are very friendly and are willing to training and teach new skills.

A day in the "Yard" is tough but rewarding. Some days its so hot you feel like your going to pass out or be sick, all the while your having a fun time complaining with your friends. As long as your work hard you can enjoy the work you do, make friends, and even make a bit of money. All though this job isn't for most people I did have fun.

Reimar is a very busy company, and high rise construction is a booming industry in Ontario. The company focuses first on a “get it done no matter what” approach. The safety protocols and the coordinators of safety themselves miss a lot of things going on in the job sites, and most of the time are too lazy to come inspect the entire site.

Wages are fair if you are in the union, if your a new guy or apprentice then no foreman will take the time to teach or show you anything. Constantly walking around trying to help and no one will give you the time of day. During winter, unreliable work hours and commitment from management   

Management is respectful of employees, they encourage a work life balance.  I was able to learn some new programs such as Jonas and GPS tracking software for vehicles.

Friendly environment where everyone is friendly, everyone gets along and if we meet our weekly Quota two weeks in a row we get a pizza party. Also if you execute your job really well everyone will treat you amazingly

Many types of job duties to be demonstrated in a day but time goes by fast with good co workers to work with and very experienced supervisors to guide us 

Reimar construction is a hard place to work, featuring many hazards. The work is draining and at times painful, however it provides valuable experience for anyone interested in construction or trades.
