Remark Fresh Markets

Basic retail/service sort of job. If you like an active job that almost always has something for you to do with varied tasks, it is quite good. Yes, for this type of job it is a good place. 

The workers are typically nice and good to work with, personality-wise. There is an understanding atmosphere whether or not you "fit in". They are willing to switch shifts. Management is understanding with requesting days off for doctor appointments or other things, as long as your request before the schedule is made. Schedules are typically out Monday for the next week (unless there is a holiday, then maybe 2-3 weeks advance), so there is not much notice of when you work and it will be difficult juggling another job with inconsistent days.

"Customer-focused" is extreme here. Cleaning (filthy) machines so that someone's turkey isn't  covered in roast beef goop does not count as a customer-focused activity. Similar things that are definitely for the customers' benefit also don't count: filling the self-serve cooler, sanitizing the things a hundred customers have touched, putting meats away so they dont gather bacteria, etc. The only customer focus is at the counter helping customers. Personally, I prefer holistic customer service, not this shallow sort of approach, but this is how it is.

Scheduling is random, even for full timers. No set days off and no set shift. Full time DOES get 40 hours, however.  Part time might get shafted working the minimum allowed per week, but it really depends on your availability; if your schedule is open, you will probably get more hours.

There is onsite parking Monday-Wednesday and reserved offsite parking (a little far away) the rest of the days. Days around holidays will have you offsite regardless.

There is no room for growth. No supervisor positions, just management that would only be reached if the current retires and you've been there a decade or something. Full timers often have a supervisory role in opening or closing, managing the other workers and making sure tasks are done, holding responsibility for this. They may receive a (variable, paltry) raise for this, but no title that you could put on your resume.

The real issues comes with favouritism toward people that have worked there a while-- they are not under the scrutiny of management and therefore get away with things or not doing things. Similarly, students/part timers seem to have less expectation placed on them and are allowed to do mediocre work... or worse. Critique/issues with you that come out depending on how severe the manager feels that day or you; someone else may not even get a remark about the exact same thing the next day. It is a strange work culture dynamic/management system and the inconsistency of treatment may leave you confused and suffering mentally. It is difficult/ impossible to approach these issues.

Definitely don't work here. Trust me. Hours are random and customers are entitled and rude. A customer could scream in your face and management will NEVER defend you. So many weird and backward rules. Your job position is listed as a cashier but you're also supposed to do loss prevention and troubleshooting for everything. 

If you're a POC, don't apply for the front end. They used to throw out high school or resumes from POC. Little to no way to advance. The 'discount' doesn't even cover the tax on most things. 

You also don't get to park in their parking lot 4/7 days of the week. two days at a church down the road and two other days in a random building parking lot.

A typical day included packing product, stocking shelves running back and forth from the freezers that are behind the store and unloading trucks. 
Management is awful! If your a good worker they will keep adding more and more work till you break, if your a lazy worker they will praise you and let you get away with doing nothing.  Managers talk badly about the employees and other managers to anyone who will listen, this includes the store managers (not just in the bakery) they like to threaten to take your breaks away and use intimidation to get their way.
If you ask for time off they will deny it and then let someone they like have that day off instead.

I would recommend working for Remark Fresh Markets if you don’t mind only earning minimum wage and like schedules that change week to week. Remark is not a bad place to work. Coworkers are nice. I only wish management appreciated it’s employees more. They only pay minimum wage and do not offer raises or health benefits. They do offer a 10% employee discount. I would much rather have health benefits and a livable wage then an employee discount. 

I wouldn’t recommend working here. The work environment is toxic, with constant drama and lack of support plus zero benefits.
Management is a joke.. disorganized, unprofessional and full of favoritism, making it hard to feel valued.
Your  hard work and dedication are ignored, often goes unnoticed or unappreciated. While poor behavior of some is tolerated. If you’re looking for a place to grow and be respected, this is not it. Or if you value your time, energy, and sanity, move on cuz this place is a huge waste.

My overall experience at Remark Fresh Markets was a good one, if I hadn't had to move I'd still be employed there. A typical day at work I'd work an 8-10 hour cashier shift. I learned that working costumer service is a  lot harder than it looks, being kind all the time is something that is a must - the costumer is always right. The management team was phenomenal, the job security was amazing. The co-workers were always kind and enjoyable to be around.

Coworkers are fun and nice & it’s an easy job being a cashier. but the management is god awful in all departments of the store. pay is horrible & you never get a raise. managers are always on a power trip and treat employees horribly. same with the owners. made amazing friends with my coworkers, but wouldn’t recommend working there unless you want to cry in the bathroom everyday & then get yelled at for being in the bathroom too long

Very Very Very unorganized, it’s filthy, like literal filth. I don’t know how they are still open to the public. They sell old meat to loyal customers and repackage old meats as new just to make the sale. The management there are a joke. This place really is fooling customers and would never recommend anyone to ever go to this grocery store especially if your looking at the meat counter! 

Inconsiderate individuals that talk behind your back and say one thing and then go ahead And do another. They grow through so much stuff that you would that they would realize. It was a management problem not an employee problem. They try make you feel safe and welcome and then they lay off. And then you see a job posting for the position you had four days later.
