Repsol

Repsol is a great place to work as it is flexible with its hours, it provides and environment of growth and support and it gave experience i would never have imagined. I work mostly with children teaching them how to swim and about water safety which I feel is a very important role in anyone's life especially being around water. A typical day is pretty normal, getting classes of children in different levels, and teaching the skills they need for their age and level. I learned a lot about teaching swimming and talking to parents, gaining costumer service, not too much but well enough. Everyone is highly respectful and accepting, team work is a big aspect in Repsol, helping each other out and supporting each other through thick and thin. Helping other when needed and stepping up to fill in roles when needed. I enjoy seeing my students become more confident in the water and being aware of the hazards, but still having fun.

This company is huge worldwide.
However, as much as management would like employees to believe there is a role for them in Canada, there is little to indicate that there is a future for the company in Canada. They do not appear to be producing any new assets and a lot of the people who were on projects that were number one priority last year were laid off this year. This does not generate a lot of confidence with employees that Repsol will have a future in Canada.

The management style of this workplace was ancient. It's very much a place that favours management and workers have little to no rights. The pay is pretty low on the scale compared to other places in the industry. The schedule is alright and there is definitely an opportunity to get lots of experience doing different things. If someone in management doesn't like you, you'll have a target on your back. Have seen employees treated like they were a bullies victim. There is virtually no training program here.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The company is full of bureaucrats, mindless procedures, and average bonuses and incentives. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Is cancerous too strong of a word. If it is, let’s say that the culture is painful. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A typical day would see me slip right into the mindless bureaucracy at the start and then leave the office no further ahead.

I would not recommend employment at the Edson location based on experience . An old boys club authoritarian culture. Bonuses based on old boys club standings.  Constant turn around of staff. Increased workloads. Company staff lay offs and cutbacks. Safety is a concern. Get er done cowboy mentality. Micro management does not treat staff with respect.  in some cases, one manager per one or two employees. Very old plant, constantly in need of maintenance or repair. No formal training program . Morale is poor. 

Good company to work for when they are not constantly laying off staff. Work from home perks are good however salary isn’t aligned with market.

Company has continually sold off assets with little to no investment in current asset. There is opportunity to learn in your current role but little to no room to move around or grow unless you speak Spanish.

Be prepared to deal with constantly changing processes that add little to no value but add more work.



Repsol (Madrid) has been predominantly third party non-operated and does not know how operate effectively but is arrogant enough to force their ways. There is no dialogue, only one-way orders from the top which are often not applicable, not realistic, no support provided, no discussion on manpower requirements or workload prioritization. The only positive was a having a job during tough industry times but annual layoffs continue and jobs continue to be outsourced to Madrid so that won't last long.

Great company to work for. Sorry to see them leave Canada. Some of the procedures are over the top and to complex but overall management and co workers were awesome

Uncertainty for their future in Canada and the Company getting sold

Work environment was A+ and the safety culture was the best I’ve ever worked at

They talk the talk but let’s be honest money is the main focus and if your not Spanish or from Houston don’t think your job is safe or you will see a promotion. The safety and environmental team what do they do???you never see any of them doing productive work in the office or field.And the amount of meetings which have no value are insane.

The people were excellent to work with.

Working through the sale of the asset.

Great work environment. Highly trained learning culture.
