I worked at Kicking horse for one season and I’d rather do just about anything other than go back. I have worked for many snowschools and this is by far the worst. For one I could hardly afford to eat while I was there cause of the low wages and few hours. A full time job is not 15 hours a week. Even during “busy periods” I struggled. The snow school is so disorganized, head of department is good but he is spread so thin you rarely see him. I often felt so bad for the team leads cause they were left in the dark. They did their best but they were often spread too thin to really do anything. Desk agents were petty and often made jokes about cutting our hours for asking genuine questions about the schedule. Time off requests were never respected, even after being confirmed with them. Even with other available instructors you would still be put on. Our uniforms were poor quality and made it tough to do our job. The zippers kept falling out, it was embarrassing and made us look unprofessional. One team lead literally took it upon herself to fix mine cause she knew how to sew. Co-workers did the best they could, and were fun to work with but there was absolutely no direction the whole time I was there. Schedule errors were a regular occurrence, and desk would have the gall to blame you for it often times. Very little improvement clinics, I think there was maybe 10 all season. Save yourself the stress and please work at any other resort.

Not a great ski resort to work at. They like to pretend that they care but in reality you are just another number. I can understand why this is, with so many seasonal staff that are gone is 6 months.

Work becomes a bit scarce over certain periods for many departments which means that you will more than likely need a second job. But when you have a second job RCR will expect you to give them priority and drop everything, otherwise they will threaten to take your ski pass. 

Culture is great but that is purely due to the other staff members being fun. They do a few staff parties during the season where you will get 2 beers and some pretty average food. 

My strong advice would be to just get a job in town and pay for a season pass. Only thing that makes it slightly worth it is being able to ski on your lunch break.

Management is equivalent to the old boys club, they are stuck in their ways with very little to zero change in practices. The managers can be sketchy sometimes, due to not being trained properly or just not caring. 

They have no loyalty to hard workers, you are just another number. You are paid poorly for the amount of time and stress put in, especially during the busy season. This isn't great considering how high the cost of rent is in fernie.

If you get trained correctly you can actually learn some practical skills relating to skiing.

The only benefits were free ski pass, great co-workers, a few staff parties and meeting people from around the world. 

I worked in F&B at Nakiska and I  had to quit halfway through the season because I was so miserable. I would cry on the way to work because I dreaded going there. The managers don't care if you get breaks. You work 9 hour days without eating sometimes. HR was not helpful at all when I voiced my concerns. Management is not trained in all departments and therefore cannot help you in any way when things get crazy. Customers are rude. Employees that call in sick and go snowboarding (at the hill you work at) instead get employee of the month?? I hadn't spoken to one co-worker who actually enjoyed their job or was treated fairly. 

I worked three jobs in one day.  Three restaurants.  Snowboarded to all of them.  
This is where I grew as a person and knew that I was meant to be in the customer industry.  
Management was amazing.  I was fortunate enough to grow a bit in that company.
I got married at the top of Lake Louise, and then we had to move in order further our life.  Lake Louise is a National park, and you can not purchase a home.  The hardest part was having to leave.
I met some of my best friends to this day working there.  That is the best part.

The Front Desk role gets crazy busy ramping up to the start of the season and keeps busy throughout Christmas. Work through January-March eases off quite a bit.
Management is fairly corporate, so helping guests in case by case scenarios is kind of hard sometimes; few exceptions to rules are granted.
Appreciated the Christmas gift and staff ski day, as well as the staff season pass!

Most enjoyable part of the day was being able to ski and snowboard some of the worlds best terrain and snow!

Great pace to work, and learn. The people are amazing, and the lifestyle is one to be envied. If you are looking for a short term gig with some top notch people who love mountain culture, this is the company you want to work for,

low low looooow pay, and stressful, unclear work expectations. the coworkers were lovely. its generally not worth the line on your resume or the ski pass. with the cost of housing in fernie, you may as well work somewhere else in town for better pay that offers a pass

All management has been in the area for 20+ yrs. Refuse to update or adapt to new cultures. Management from Head Office is non-existent or exclusively in the way of the lower management. Expected to work unsupported with little training.
