During my three-month probationary period as a millwright apprentice, I've had the privilege of working closely with experienced senior maintenance workers and journeyman millwrights. Our tasks primarily involve repairing conveyor belts, executing machine installations, and ensuring proper guarding for machinery. This period has been a rich learning experience, especially in terms of safety protocols and best practices when working around and on machinery. I've gained invaluable knowledge about safely navigating these environments and mastering the correct use of tools.

One notable aspect of my experience has been the supportive management style. They provide guidance and resources but do not engage in excessive micromanagement, allowing me to develop and learn at my own pace. The workplace culture at our company is particularly enjoyable, as everyone is genuinely engaged and takes pleasure in their work. It's a place where employees are content, not constantly seeking alternative employment opportunities. This combination of learning opportunities, safety emphasis, and a positive work culture makes my apprenticeship at this company a rewarding and enriching experience.

You’re going to be worked hard to the bone. Head down, tail up, and they’ll treat you like dogs. Literally. They (managerial staff) will order food for themselves and then toss the scraps downstairs for the working class after a day or two of it sitting in the fridge. Management likes to live like kings as well. Ordering banquets of food for useless office meetings that could have been an email. 
They run the company as a dictatorship and the captain being pants-on-head. They will not respect you. Your job will constantly be threatened. They have no sense of what safe production is. Do not let their words fool you. If you’re desperate, use this company to get ahead and quit as soon as you can. They will use you. They will abuse you. And they will leave you high and dry in the end.

I worked hard in this company, finally was promoted, the previous management was aware of the skilled and dedicated employees and cared for them, but since the last 2 to 3 years, new management has been very negative, these are incompetent people with no previous industry experience and knowledge and have no idea about work life balance, their only concern is bonuses and production. The safety culture has improved but only when production is not compromised. People are promoted and cared for depending on who you know and not what you know.
The yard employees are great and very friendly.
Some supervisors are good as well. Overall it was a good place to work, but not anymore, I have wasted my valuable years in this place, which will never be replaced.

My advice is to be open to change, especially modern and global change, give staff the autonomy to develop the role and themselves, don't treat employees like you're in a dictatorship.
 (Main Management district and regional) do not care about you or your life or you all they care about is production they work your till your exhausted and mentally drained.  On plus side the workers are great they treat you like family. Safety is a big issue there once again they would rather care more about production over the safety of the employees . They also don't have proper work scheduling you never know how long your on a certain shift. (Morning, afternoons, or graveyards)

As a general laborer the typical day at work would be to do what my boss says to do which could vary from multiple different tasks including: sweeping, cleaning, moving and sorting, taking apart and sorting metals. The number one thing here to everybody is safety and being productive while being as safe as possible. They are super understanding and including of everyone, I am super comfortable here. Management is amazing to, they listen and understand and will take charge, even setting up something fun for everyone working during lunch break. Overall I think it is a great place to work and a good way to have a better understanding of the scrap metal recycling industry.

Good company to work with if you have family and looking for stable work in long time. Gets boring really quick. Feels like there is no plans for future to expand. Safety is focused on wrong this as owned by larger company and lags effort on things that really needs to looked into. Salary and skill payment don't really match up at all but they try to look after you if you work hard and show up to work.

Richmond Steel is full of friendly people who make you feel supported and happy to come to work everyday. I am also supplied with the tools I need to do my job well. 

I believe that the company is continuously looking for ways to improve, whether that be through better performance or enriching the culture. There are team lunches where everyone gets together to enjoy a meal. Healthy snacks are also regularly available. 

Overall Richmond Steel is a great place for someone who wants a challenging and rewarding job.

One of the worst places I've worked in my life .. coming from a heavy equipment background granted the wage and then taken from me because of workers hating on outside success ... management gets ears filled easy and human resources lady is a joke .. smile in your face talk behind ur back 
Also there's no garunteed work schdule can always be moved around 

Management doesn't care about workers .. only within union lines

Dont work here...safety and employees lives mean nothing. Production production production.
You get your schedule friday night for monday morning.  You could work days afternoons or graveyards or a combination of the three in a single week.
"Mandatory" overtime or disciplinary action.
Employees overworked in dangerous conditions equals serious injuries. 
Before your start look at their work safe records and decide if you want to be a statistic.
