-open store/print reports/change promotions and signage according to email directives/product to change for new promotions/priority on customer service at all times/stock to put out/visual displays to change/on going training of associates/closing store at end of day.
-each day is what you put into it.  It can be upbeat and fun/challenging at times but that's what drives me.  Put on a contest, challenge an associate to do better.
Management:  Home Office Support was always available if you need them.  Some of these people have become long distant friends.
-my associates/co-workers are also the fun part of my work place. I have had a few associates over the years, come and gone and come back to work for me.  Realizing other Companies can be not so fun to work for.  Fun:  the act of knowing what you have to do and then doing it in a playfull manner.  Who wouldn't like to spend someone else's money by dressing them up beautifully and making a friend along the way.
-hardest part of my job:  having to let someone go after redirection and retraining has made no difference in their behaviours or preformance/productivity.
-the most enjoyable part of my job:  working in a fast paced environment, knowing what has to be accomplished, time line for deadlines, analyzing data to come up with solutions, problem solving, being a mentor, supervising others, seeing associates doing great at their job, I love it all.

my first job i work here for nearly two years, became a key holder but never got a pay increase for it. i loved the customers and dealing with their needs, but there werent many customers in the location i worked, there were barely any hours, sometimes only one 4 hour shift a week, which definitely didn't pay the bills. plenty to do around the store but so little time to do it, i often worked alone and had to balance so much it was frustrating. management was always criticizing instead of praising, never really had that  healthy balance, they'd cancel my shifts less than 24 hours before i worked them, and many times no one would take your shift if you were sick or couldn't make it in.  it started off great for me but ended on a bad note when i quit, i was getting less hours and less pay than girls with less availability, experience and hours put into the store, i said this to management and they accused me of many things which were not true. my assistant manager was 19 and way out of her league, with a bad superiority complex which lead em to quitting. its a good job and  a good company but its just that location that suffered.

We have had many people either quit or have to go on stress leave over the past year. Staff is treated in an abusive manner, yelled at, harassed, nasty notes put up all over the workplace, shifts taken away as punishment. People who have been there 6-25 years will be treated as disposable and replaced with 16 year olds with no explanation. Favoritism and bullying in the workplace. Supervisor who does the scheduling gives her daughter and 2 others every shift and all time off they want, everyone else is treated very poorly. We are licensed and already doing several jobs with no support staff but have to tip out anyway as if we do have. Now with underage servers without SIR have no idea how they will serve tables as no one has time to do this for them. People are humiliated in the workplace in front of customers and staff. Lot of crying and breakdowns in the workplace. Honestly can't believe the franchise allows this to continue, it seems they don't have standards required.

I worked at Ricki's for a couple months as a sales associate before being promoted to key holder. That job gave me a raise of less then a dollar. After awhile I got asked if I wanted to take on assistant manager position and would be given a salary, benefits and a set number of hours weekly to be full time. I said yes, the pay was another dollar an hour more which was $15.50. That is not enough for someone to live off of and it was only a couple dollars more then what the part time workers were being paid. The environment is very toxic as they have quotas you need to meet no matter what and if you don't meet them you get written up. The discount is 50% for employees which is great seen as you have to wear their clothes while on shift, but you have to constantly keep buying because once they go on sale or clearance you can no longer wear them. So you're spending lots of money on clothes on a salary that's not a livable wage already. And there were no bonuses either to account for anything. 

I liked working with the people here. Management was great, co-workers were easy to get along with, and the customers who frequented the store were good people; I never had a problem with anyone working there.

The downside was that hours were not guaranteed, especially for part-timers and students. The schedule was only one week out, which made it easy to ask the manager for days off (and easy for her to make it happen), but made it really difficult to keep track of when I worked; I often had to call in just to find out my hours. As well, I had the misfortune of coming in during the last few months of the year, which meant within a couple of months, what hours I did have dropped off a cliff, which was why I left. You can't pay bills on one shift every two weeks. However, if this has improved in the years since, I would probably consider coming back, because it was otherwise great.

I worked at Ricki’s in Ottawa for almost 2 years. There I learned how to work on the cash, clean the store, open and close the store, do stock, and learned how to interact and help customers. With the customers I would help them find what they were looking for and make sure that they were happy before leaving the store. I also learned about our products to aid in my helping of the customers. We also had a quota to meet every single shift and my co-workers and I would work as a team to meet our quotas. If I ever needed help I would communicate with my co-workers. On cash I would ring customers through and start conversations with them. If we were having specials I would remind them about our offers so they wouldn’t miss out. I always made sure to keep an up-beat and positive attitude while working in customer service.

My day typically starts by reviewing previous day's sales, setting goals and duties for the day, and making any adjustments based on business trends. The hardest part is having to cut hours if the store is not making or trending it's forecasted sales. I have continuous contact checking that the days business is ready to be faced in a fun and friendly atmosphere, and I always have a smile ready for my customer as we face the day together. A few minutes will be spent "checking in" with associates starting their shift, so they know what the days plans are. Throughout the day coaching is provided when necessary to ensure the customer is first and has the best experience possible with us. My customers and co workers are the best part of my day.

I spent my work day training staff, stock in the back room, conference calls, selling on the sales floor with other associates, payroll and schedualing. I learned how to be confident in all i do, how to train staff effeciantly, how to give the best customer service and how to help an unruly customer. Management was always helpful and I could always rely on them. My co-workers were always helpful as well and fun to work with. The hardest part of the job was working on boxing day, because it was crazy busy and a long day! The most enjoyable part of the job was the customers, I loved helping the customers if they left with a smile on their faces and came back my staff and myself did our jobs right!

What is the best part of working at the company?
The customers and the discount.  On average it’s 50% off. Sometimes we get 60% off 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Understaffed, not enough hours for everyone.  Head office shifts things around often you don’t always know who is incharge 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Often very busy, but never really anything to do.  They have too high expectations for new management with little training 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Paperwork, writing out yesterdays numbers waiting trees cause it’s all on the computer then writing out todays goal.  Setting the store for today’s sales.  Cleaning stock helping customers.  Checking emails and team which is often just other managers complaining or bragging

A typical day for me as a Sales Associate for Ricki's women wear would begin with the opening of the store and greeting the customers. The store environment was competitive with all co-workers working together to optimize sales. The management would notify sales associates of their progress and the average items sold to encourage top sales rewards. The hardest part of the job was to make sure all merchandise was cleared out of the change rooms for the next customer. The most enjoyable part of the job was the fashion plus putting together wardrobes for the clientele. The skill I was able to utilize most was a attention to fashion and material and recognize what would best suite each customer.
