Ripleys Believe It or Not

I have very little positive to say about my experience with Ripleys. Their employee support is almost non-existant, their flexibility in providing workable hours to parents with young children is almost laughable. The managing director is completely preoccupied as he is running multiple sites and is unable to focus on the Niagara Attractions with any reasonable level of attention, leaving the majority of responsibility to a rather useless assistant manager and a former secretary who has no management skills at all.

There is absolutely no HR support. Despite being promised full time hours with benefits upon being hired, after more than a year of working 40 hours or more a week, the above mentioned assistant manager refused to even discuss the possibility with me, claiming that the company was re-writing their benefits policy and we would talk at a later date, at which time, my hours began decreasing, eventually reducing them to the point that I no longer qualified for benefits.

Wages are minimum (not a surprise of course) with horrible incentive payouts. (You might get lucky to land an extra $100 a month on their scale). The hours are heinous too; During the summer, the hours of operation are from 8am sometimes until 2 or 3am, depending on the crowds. No extra breaks either if you happen to be working the 5pm to 2am shift. And God help you if the aforementioned secretary schedules you to open after you've worked until close.

Oh yeah, one more really unfortunate feature. No air conditioning in the summer. And the store fronts have to stay open in the winter too, so remember to wear 8000 layers of clothing,

I know times are hard and jobs are harder to come by, and if the chips are down, take the job. However, if you have options, take the other one first- and from what I've experienced first hand, don't commit to them, because they won't commit to you at all either. The minute summer is over and they've determined that you're dead weight, they're more than happy to drop you right off of the schedule!

My work place makes me feel welcomed, and happy to come into work. The people I work with are all great, hard working employees. Working in the tourist industry, I've learned that a smile goes a long way. I love to help people as much as i can, with directions, information about my city, my work place, recommendations on places to eat, and places to visit. I've learned the best ways to communicate with guests, when guests are upset- how to accommodate their needs, how to up-sell and interest them in our packages.

My over all experience working at Ripleys was great. I like the people I worked with. There wasn’t a lot of drama like some places. I started as a cashier and moved up to be a team leader then eventually became the retail manager for the retail shop. I liked the fact that I was able to work independently with minimal supervision.

At first I really liked working there but I slowly got taken advantage of and then a team leader position came up and it was posted and only a few people applied and I was told they would have interviews and they didn't. They gave the position to an exchange student so they could stay in the country. Needless to say that was the last time I would work for a place like that

It was a challenging job trying to please people (especially large groups) with a good picture.  It was difficult not to leave a walk-in customer too long before being attended to.

It taught me alot in these two areas above as well as upselling.

The hardest part was the 12 hour shift work.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Employee friend and good environment 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Working at weekend. Its busy at weekend

Ripleys was my first job and it was by far the best. I made many friends there and I still have them to this day. The work load was easy and the coworkers made it fun.

I loved the atmosphere while working there because of all the different and neat things through out the Rickey's tour, however I wouldn't work for that man again

the people there are very kind but terrible hours i had a week with no shifts like how do you live off that. i pay rent and live alone so i pay my own things
