What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Workplace culture and management approach can be challenging, with perceived favouritism and internal politics affecting morale. Communication from management is not always fully transparent, which can create uncertainty for employees. Equipment quality can also be a concern at times, with older trucks and shared (slip seating) usage adding to day-to-day stress. While safety is emphasized, expectations in real operations can sometimes feel inconsistent, which may place drivers in a difficult position when balancing safety concerns with maintaining consistent work and income.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Work environment is often shaped by internal politics, where employees may feel the need to align closely with management to avoid issues.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A typical day involves loading and transporting live birds from farms to processing plants and unloading them, which is physically demanding and not clean work. You’re working in rural areas, often dealing with rough roads and unpredictable conditions. The job requires constant attention to animal welfare, as you have to monitor the birds and adjust based on weather and conditions throughout the day. There is significant responsibility, as anything that happens during transport is on the driver, and the work can be high-pressure at times due to time constraints and operational demands.

The last few months working at Riverdale were the best they've ever been.

A typical day at Riverdale is maintaining trailers, and when we've got downtime, we fix chicken crates.

Before I started work at Riverdale, I didn't even know what a ratchet was, but because it is pretty much all hands on work, I have gained a serious amount of experience. The people there are always eager to share their knowledge.

Management is always looking for feedback on how they can make the company a better place, but don't always put it to good use. I often heard my supervisor talk about how trying to get the company to throw money at anything is like pulling teeth. Some of the tools should have been replaced a while ago but it never happened. There was also a time when different people were getting paid different amounts hourly for no logical reason. People with less experience were being paid multiple dollars more than people who had been working multiple years longer. It eventually all got straightened out but I lost my trust for a lot of people in the company for that whole situation.

The vast majority of people I've met at Riverdale are very hard working and love what they do. It's a pretty easygoing work environment. There's times when you can take your time on what you're doing and chat with a co-worker while you work, and there are other times when you've really got to hustle to get what you're doing done.

The hardest part of the job might be problem solving. We do different kinds of work all the time and the job is always evolving, throwing new problems our way to solve.

The best part of the job is probably the fact that when the day is done, you can shut your brain off. There's no responsibilities outside of work.

With so many divisions, Office, two unique Truck Repair Shops, Catching, Driving, and Tarp Repair, it is difficult to give an opinion on how you will like working for Riverdale, all I can do is tell you how I like working at Riverdale.

The pay is good, it's a fair rate for what I do, the benefits are fantastic! I like to work afternoons, and the company found a spot for me on afternoons. Others here like mornings and the company put them in the shift that they like. There is no "You will work day shift because we said so" mentality here. Driver's have it different because they are tied to the pick up and delivery schedules.

Like any company, there are good foremen/managers and there are bad ones. You can't get away from that.

The hardest part about working for Riverdale is the over abundance of meetings that happen far to frequently. 

The best part of working for Riverdale, is the people I work with. There is not a bad person here. I say that honestly. Everyone here is nice to each other. I have seen one argument in my whole time here. I've worked at other companies that arguments were as common as breathing.

If you are respectful, willing to work hard, and not expect to be CEO the week after you start, you will most likely enjoy working at Riverdale Poultry.

Senior management team members set the tone that frames the Riverdale culture, demonstrating solid work ethic, open-door policy, open to new ideas from all areas/levels within the organization, and committed to supporting team members in their personal development and in removing removing roadblocks preventing us from achieving our goals.  
With growth comes both success and challenges/opportunities for improvement.  Sometimes there's too much work for the existing team to handle.  Fortunately, the owners recognize that and have hired/are hiring more people to relieve the pressure.  
What I've noticed both in the workplace and in reading reviews written by current & former employees, is that the happy and fulfilled team members are those who speak up when they need help and, sadly, those who keep their problems to themselves remain unhappy.  My advice: work hard, maintain life balance, and when it gets hard to do both speak up to your manager -> they really do listen and provide support!

It was a great place to work when I first started. It seems they have got too big, too fast and it is their employees and safety standards that are suffering. The biggest issue here is POOR dispatching. Hours are long and all over the place. One day you will be working nights and the next, a surprise day shift. No home time and life is pretty much a series of naps. Currently they are implementing pay cuts to all drivers, since they now have an absurd amount of office staff with made up rolls. Owners that have no clue, they're only out to get rich and screw everyone in the process. They make you feel like its family oriented and they care. I'll tell you now, it's not and they don't! Lack of communication is also a real issue at Riverdale. Your yearly "bonus" focuses on everything you have done wrong and nothing you have done good for the company. They look for any way possible to take money away. It really is just a ridiculous job. If you enjoy no sleep, never knowing when you're going to be working, poor communication, and stress then Riverdale is a job for you!

My day starts out with knowing what farm(s) I'm going to. Dispatch lays everything out in good detail so that you know what to expect before you get to your farm(I.e) how many birds you are to load and how many per crate. I've learned that even the best of plans can differ when last minute changes have to be made to make different loads work so you learn to adapt. Management is always there to answer calls if you have any questions they always say don't be afraid to call if something is on your mind which is great. All the drivers always help you out, weather it's a extra set of eyes needed at a farm when backing your truck up or helping to unchain your trailer at the plant if your in a rush.the hardest part of the job is managing a steady diet. Again it's something you learn to do over time along with managing your sleep. The best part of the job is knowing that each truck load we bring in is helping to keep the country feed and kept moving through good times and bad.

It's always a waiting game to see what you have for work that night, so sleep may not be the maximum.  I've learned that the industry is always changing. Management doesn't always understand what is being said by employees and will do what they feel is best even if it is not what is worthwhile and smart for the company.  The culture is not always the best, the feeling of family is gone. You barely run with the same people or person regularly so building a relationship with other employees is hard, and its confusing to get to know the individual's in a short amount of time.  The hardest part for new hires is the physicality of the job and getting your body trained to doing all the manual labor. I enjoy working with some of the other drivers we have, and the interaction with others. This is a very diverse place to work and there are alot of people with different backgrounds.

Riverdale has provided me with continuous learning opportunities from day one. Management asks for opinions and input on a regular basis. 
Growing comes with challenges and Riverdale has a strong team of dedicated employees who work around the clock to consistently improve processes as we go. I am very proud to be part of the Riverdale team and I see great things happening for Riverdale as we continue to grow and lead the industry. I recommend Riverdale to anyone looking for a long term career opportunity within an industry that operates year round to provide an essential service to Canadians. 

Generally great place to work. Management is good and  understand you and willing to help you anytime.  except the Forman in Brampton. They have 2 choice. Loader driver or just driver. But when you not loading waiting 2 hr in farm while loading you have to be out of truck and check chicken which is fall down the trailer and back up or front ahead truck and for this  all on duty they dont want to pay anythings. For driver they just paying mile but for loader driver plus paying loading money which is good money. Overall as a company they are really good management is good. I liked to worked there. Very great place to work awesome management great work environment people were awesome and willing to help at any given time. Dispatch was a pleasure they were super helpful and would work with you to make things easier for your day. Management I can’t say enough great things about them. It was a pleasure working for them. They understand family and have no issues trying to accommodate anything for you and your family.
