B.A. Robinson Co. Ltd. - Current Job-Receptionist/Admin.Asst.

I start by checking my e-mail, cash report, then I file customer invoices, purchase orders, etc.  

I pick-up all orders in the warehouse, sort them check them in a queue for invoicing or other status requirements and file.
(I do this several times a day). 

I run the postage machine, fill the meter, ink requirements, etc.
I process all the mail/parcals  for pick-up by Canada Post

I relieve the receptionist for her breaks, lunch and the last few hours of the day. This involves answer the phone and process customer payments.  This part of my day can be  the hard est if the phone lines are very busy and there are a lot of customers but also enjoyable meeting and greeting  different people.

I get along with all my co-workers, we function well together and have a fun happy atmosphere .   

The management is great.  Any new or existing assignments they are very patient and understanding. There are a lot of company functions such as X-Mas parties barbeques, pancake breakfasts, etc.

Overall I have improved on my existing work skills and have learned how to operate a very busy switchboard with headset, a new computer program (Solar Eclipse).

My routine job is searching new project from website, if we got job from customer, i will do the cost estimation for the projects, then submit to our sales people after discuss with engineer. i will need to do some installation and service job when needed.
In this company, I learned how to do a project from very beginning to the end.
1.find out the possible job, 2. calculate the cost, 3.prepare bidding documents. 4.design control system, 5. installed the system. 6.points and system commissioning. 7.assist 3rd party inspection. 8.fixed deficiency list. 9.final inspection 10.job done, prepare as built documents and service notes.
For me in this company, it is a pretty good company for some new immigrants, they provide good chance for fresh students and new immigrants. Bose is very nice. but the management is a little bit mass, the main strategy of company is not clear enough.

What is the best part of working at the company?
There are no best parts. They overwork you. And don’t follow through with promises. The staff you become friends with via trauma bonding are pretty cool though. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Every single aspect. They don’t pay what they work you. So work life balance is way off. They want you to work 6-9s. And wonder why you are burnt out. They also don’t follow through with things they say. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Toxic, jaded, and they only want more progress, with as little staff as possible 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Go in, do my job, take lunch, finish up. There is no joy only despair

First day at BA Robinson electrical was great.. they give a quick 10-15min tour of the building and training of the RF scanner then left on your own to start picking. Staff was really help full and they always encourage you to ask questions. Pay was decent for the job you were entitled to do but as the weeks went on they start giving you more and more task such as shipping/receiving, stocking, cleaning and etc. Don't get me wrong it was greatly appreciated when there was nothing else to do. Having said all that, Ive noticed a few  trash talking towards other employees/management, customers and even myself while walking through the isle's. At that point I knew this wasn't the place for me.

There are good people here but a lot have given up and quietly quitting or quitting outright due to no leadership, no accountability, common arguments between coworkers over petty things, no teamwork(everyone out for themselves)
*Whenever problems fester manager works short week and goes on a camping trip.

The pros are profit sharing and if you work hard you get rewarded with more work while others play on their phones.

Work- life balance isn’t good either if you get stuck with on call phone. You need to respond anytime of the day and drive back to the warehouse anytime a customer calls after hours.




As the Marketing Coordinator at B.A. Robinson and Lighting, I was tasked with monitoring and managing the Partners Program, where customers and sales representatives earn points based on the amount of product purchased with B.A. Robinson. This includes enrolling clients, keeping track of customer and sales representatives' earned points and finalizing merchandise redemptions. Faciliating sales competitions and running montly reports were also large components of my role. B.A. Robinson has allowed me to expand my knowledge of the wholesale environment as well as my Excel capabilities

Training is only given by computer you are just thrown in to it with no one actually teaching you anything , your pay badly for the work you do manager goes out drinking with company card instead of having that money to get work place stuff , when I asked for work stuff was told there was no money in the budget , asked for a raise that didn’t happen, they will let you go for no reason and if you ask why they will not tell you . So if your thinking of a long term don’t work for this company . But if it’s short term go ahead they will hire anyone .

- the shipping/receiving dept is chronically under staffed, this causes
huge backlogs in receiving.
- I was hired at $15hr, 18months later with perfect attendance and a 
trouble free employee my wage was $15.25.
- the shipping/receiving staff bust their butts  with +35c summer temps
in the warehouse, while entitled staff in heating / waterworks surf the
web or doze off, rarely moving except when lunch truck comes.
- the employee turnover in the shipping/receiving depts is incredible.

Given she employed her family , daughter, a tad biased

Get along with those that have been there or kiss your job goodbye

Watched, uncomfortable . If they font like you, do not bother

This culture is not for independent and productive people. If you are happy staying under the radar by being mediocre you will have a long and unsatisying career utilizing outdated systems and procedures.
The ownership and management is completely put of touch with day to day struggles and challenges.
