The job looks great at first, but the reality is very different. The workplace is extremely strict and closely monitored, creating a tense atmosphere. Write-ups are common and often issued without discussion, even for minor issues like being a few minutes late. Communication from management is poor and inconsistent, which adds unnecessary stress. There are also concerns around transparency and how products are represented (products that are made in china are sold as handmade in canada). Staff housing is available but overpriced, and job security can feel uncertain. While the store itself is beautiful and some coworkers are great, the management style makes it difficult to feel comfortable or supported long-term.

The company is poorly run. They say they focus on training and product knowledge but there wasn't any only on the first few days. Its a clicky team and if your not in with the managers then its not a great place to work. And if they didn't like you  they would just find a reason to write you up or fire you. They go through a lot of staff at both the stores because they are always firing people. 

Management is extremely poor, their leadership style is fear mongering. The owners watch the cameras from Banff and send screenshots to the manager of the Whistler store. The staff turnover is high because they either fire you for no reason or you get tired of their management. There is a lot of pressure on the Whistler store as the owners are not physically there, there is no recognition for constantly hitting targets, just constant bad feedback. 

Starts out great but the ending of working here, you are tired, fed up and can’t deal with the environment there. Owners can be pretty two faced and don’t actually do anything except fire a lot of people. Training is horrible there, people are not trained properly especially with stones. Everyone just stands around, there isn’t much to do except there should be, right? Red flag that they hire on the spot.

Horrible job security. It starts out great, but as you have time to observe things, you see that they manage the staff through fear. People get written up and fired for no reason. Bad management and culture, they are two faced and find petty faults if they don’t like you. I do not recommend working there. 

There is no ethics management 
Everything is working on like or dislike 
No matter how good you r at work but there is nothing professional.
Owner have two faces , they will like on their mood. 
Management is worst , very unprofessional.

This company is such a good place to work. It's fun and you will get compensated well as long as you work hard and do your job. The owners take good care of the employees by providing good benefits and good starting wage. Love talking to the customers as you can provide new information regarding fossils and their origin.

I worked at Rocks & Gems for 10 months. Management is great and super fair. As long as you show up for work and put in effort there is tons of room to grow. I had 2 raises within my first 3 months. They have a training program to learn the products and provide a ski pass if you stay for the season! Also have staff accommodation if you need it.

I would never work here again!! From first hand experience the job security is awful, the owners threatened to fire people all the time. The work culture is awful, there is no trust at all. Poorly run company by owners who have no clue how to build a team and company. Wish I had of known this before I worked there. 

Rocks and Gems Whistler has an awesome team, is a fun work environment and has management that cares about their staff. Full time is guaranteed 40/week year round.  They hire at a fair wage and theres opportunity to move up if you stay long term and are hard working. All in all it's a geat place to work.
