I have worked there for 5+ years and the culture never changes. The council tries to hire a new cao every 12-15 months but they keep getting worse each time. The current one lies and fires staff constantly. There's no direction either. 
Everybody is looking for jobs elsewhere that I interacted with and is very unmotivated to be there. 
A typical day includes high stress, consistent demands from upper management because they are being pressured from those above (messaging is inconsistent, more now than ever before), and tight timelines. It is worse now because there is so much inconsistency with the demands and what is being required from the executives. 
The workplace culture is terrible. So much gossip. Everybody is out for one another because of the dysfunction in the building. Not long ago senior leadership tried to implement cultural improvements, but it seems that this has fallen to the wayside with all of the changes. The hardest part is the mental strain of not knowing if you are next on the chopping block. 
Also a council that does not support most staff. Only staff who cater to them are somewhat "supportive". Who would ever want to work here? 
Stress amounts to you becoming unhealthy. Colleagues see it in one another. Don't bother coming here unless you are desperate. 

This company has the worst management I have ever come across. They hire you as a contract employee and lead you on with 3 month contracts for years with promises of raises, and getting on "full time" - which is considered the ultimate gift from god in their eyes. The management is useless, and it amazed me that they were capable of keeping their jobs and the charade up. Leaving multiple times a day to "pick up the dogs" or buy four 26s of Crown Royal - he was witnessed during noon hour walking into the liquor store on a Monday and walking out with such. The whole bunch of them walk around like they are God, himself, and have zero respect for their employees. Do you want to be treated like you are 4 years old again, and start to doubt yourself on behalf of the way the bosses treat you, and make next to nothing? Then I encourage you to apply to Rocky View County. If you are a hard worker, and easy to walk all over - you're bound to get the job!

working with the crew members was a pleasure, guys would help each other out and there was no stressful situations for any of the tasks set out by management. The workers were the best part of that municipality, they have the knowledge and experience to make every task more enjoyable and great to be be apart of.

when I first started, management was good but not the best that I have worked for. Over time of working there management when from good to worse, they stopped caring for the workers and the tasks. They seemed like if they had no work orders they were at a loss of what the next day tasks would be. If you had an opinion to maybe help try and change tasks for the better they would just pass it off or toss it away.

Management would make wasteful decisions and be unorganized at times. They have made decisions that I considered unsafe for the public, witch made it hard to work for them. If this was a private company the managers would have been tossed to the curb a long time ago.

On the shop floor, you have some great people. HR is corrupted and only has Managements interests at heart.  There is a tremendous amount of turn-over with employees, throughout the County. In my case, I reported to a supervisor that is TERRiFIED of the Manager. The Manager can only be described as a tyrant. Known for having temper tantrums and punishing subordinates for situations that are orchestrated. Employees are encouraged to rat on one another. There are no social gatherings, team building opportunities or professional development. The Manager is threatened by everyone they come in contact with. A THE WORST MANAGER I HAVE EVER WORKED FOR.

Rocky View County would benefit from becoming unionized. There is a general sense of “What can you do for me”, when it comes to the employer-employee relationship.

Everyone is so there for anyone that needs assistance, this makes for a stress free environment & easy for the new person to not hesitate to ask questions & learn 👍

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Walking in the front doors with a smile on my face & greeting the other staff with smiles on their face.  All day every day I learned more & more, then at the end of the day, I walked out the door with a smile on my face saying good night to all other staff still smiling.

8 cao's and revolving leadership in the time I have been there. Many reorganizations..low morale... unstable environment. A new manager is making changes with no purpose (nobody trusts what's going on). Council interference is obvious and those who are in the power seat are dictating the organizational decisions. 
The place preaches stability, yet there is none. Every department is like a morgue of silence and anxiety. Take it from everyone and start looking shortly after you join. Long term folks are just holding on until they are ready to leave or retire. Nobody's happy. It is truly a toxic environment and nobody wants to make a decision. It has been like this for almost 10 years.

Work hours are generally 8 am to 430 pm with an hour for lunch. There is a really nice and large lunch room in the basement and patio tables for use in the summer. there is also a fitness room and lockers rooms for employees to use. 
Lots of big windows to let natural light in at the workplace. 
There is a collaborative spirit to serve the residents of the community. Management was always encouraging of learning opportunities and kept employees well-informed by email and meetings/town halls.
The most enjoyable part of the job for me was when a client would thank me for helping them resolve an issue they had.

Start at 6 am end at 4:30pm. Out in the field for most of the day. I learned how to drive a trailer and CPR/First Aid. Management can be disorganized at times. Need to do better at not putting someone on the same job on the same site for weeks on end, when someone else is just as capable to replace me. Hardest part was the hours and the monotony of some jobs, especially flagging or garbage pickup. I enjoyed working with most people while there. Most of the supervisors were reasonable. I would recommend for a summer/term job only. 

When asked to complete a specific task I was told not to talk to anyone or to go through any of the obvious channels to collect needed information.  All available information was highly outdated therefore not allowing for suitable completion of task.

Often received similar tasks with vague instructions.... and then they tied my hands behind my back (not literally obviously) making it impossible to complete the task.

Also, refused to provide feedback when asked making it difficult to adjust or correct future work for the purpose of improvement was very difficult if not impossible.

The salary was pretty good and the work schedule was great; it was predictable with good hours. You rarely worked overtime and never worked on holidays. The training is pretty nice, I learned a lot about how to use equipment and other work procedures. My coworkers were fun to work with and our teamwork was awesome. Management is horrendous, though...no communication, no promotions, no respect. Aside from that, I didn't mind working for this company. I might return if they decide to be more respectful of staff.
