Rockyview General Hospital

The Rockyview Hospital was a great place to work.  I worked with a small rehabilitation team, and we were all truly friends.
Our team worked with acute care seniors.  My job as a Physiotherapy Assistant was to assist in a treatment plan put into place by the physiotherapist and the Occupational therapist with the goal to rehabilitate a senior citizen for them to independent at home. 
A typical work day consisted of teaching patients how to live an everyday life after they have had a life changing event in their health or their mobility.  Teaching things such as dressing themselves, cooking in the kitchen with a walker or wheelchair, or even helping them build endurance.
The hardest part of the job was the fact that seniors do not always prevail with life changing events.  Often death or illness would take them to soon.
What I like most about the job was the stories the patients would tell me about what life was like when they were young.

hardest part of the job was in down-time, handwriting emergency records, then merging emergency records when the system is back up. Slow times were hard as well. Keeping up to date on our training modules was always good. Typical day is counting out the cash before you start your shift and end your shift to make sure you balance. Typing the emergency charts or each patient that comes. Sometimes getting the information from patients that came in as Unknown and getting the information later from the patient or from family, then merging the Unknown chart with the patients chart. Creating charts for Babies that are born in Maternity. Deceasing patients in the computer who have passed. Taking payments from patients and writing receipts.

Getting report from previous shift's nurse, checking up on patients at the beginning of the shift, making sure everyone is ok, then off to a busy morning with administering medications, performing various nursing procedures, and in between all of this, lots of communication with other members of the interprofessional healthcare team, family members, and patients. Most of the staff members are friendly and outgoing. Hardest part of the job is that sometimes it's short staffed, so nurses could feel more stressed and   overwhelmed. Most enjoyable part of the job is that it provides personal fulfillment when I know I've made a difference in someone's life today.

It was a very challenging profession indeed. This is how my patience and endurance ware tested by dealing with doctors, nurses, patients and different kinds and types of people. There lots of pressures and stresses involved but it was a great joy on my part to be able to deliver my job and duties effectively and efficiently. I learned to become more compassionate and understanding to the needs of the patients and their relatives, friends and family. I was blessed to be given the opportunity to work in this company to understand and learn about other people's needs. A good company to work for.

I am doing my Final Practicum at Rockyview Hosptial. I enjoy helping patients with there ADL's. I am a team player,appreciate all the help that i get from the staff. The hardest part of the job is to say goodnight, because you do not know if they will be there the next day or they will get discharge from the Unit.
The most enjoyable part of the job is when the patients start to recognize you, because you have done something special for them like getting food when they between meals or just talk to them.
I am not getting paid to do my Final Practicum.

Mornings begin with a tailgate meeting. The crew is very open and discuss issues well. Staff know their jobs and are good in their roles. Meetings consume half of the day. Input is valued at every level.
My direct manager is personable and  assists me as best he can. Moral is high with the only real complaint being wages. Compared to industry pay, AHS pays low/mid range. But it is consistent and reliable. Lay offs are very rare.


As a practicum student I worked  in a unit, with diversity a of cultures, challenged to learn quickly numerous of different skills to provide the best for my clients, with the support of other health care teams, nurses, doctors, clients and family members, great experience, I hoping to get the opportunity to be part of this team again.

Emergency is very fast paced and stressful. I enjoy in because it it keeps me on my toes and is a learning experience everyday. All of my surrounding fellow staff is wonderful and they make me feel very welcomed coming to work everyday. The hardest part of my job is dealing with the unexpected, but is taken as a learning experience and it is also my favorite part of being in Emergency.

Working in Rockyview General Hospital, is pleasant , Working on day shift is busy,. I work with several surgeons with different specialties, I am mostly assign in Robotic Urology surgery,Openand Laparoscopic Urology Plastic Surgery, General Surgery, Total Joints Arthroplasty , Ortho Trauma, and Cross train in Eye Surgery as well as OB-Gyne. \I enjoy working with my co staff because of our team work

it's a very good experience to work in the hospital,quite challenging especially dealing with patients and doctors /clinic as well. I have learn a lot and gained a very fruitful experience. I may say that I worked well with my colleagues. Management are very nice. Sometimes it tends to be stressful but nevertheless i feel that i really learned a lot of things from this department.
