I had a secure, permanent, decent paying job with better benefits than I'd ever had before, but I don't think there's any period of my life where my efforts have contributed less to humanity. On paper, it was my dream job - custom engineering design in a small group to fit a variety of clients' needs. In reality, I worked only on near-identical projects from a single client, and I was too isolated from my supervisors and co-workers to gain anything much from their experience. 

In hindsight, I don't think that there was a real job there for an entry-level person to fill. I think I was hired to be a flunky and make the team look bigger. I spent an incredible amount of time with nothing to do, virtually begging my supervisors for menial tasks and mostly being swatted away. Eventually, that's what broke me - I knew that I was nothing but a waste of the company's money, and I was making a tragic waste of my own time to do it. I don't miss it. 

Ok, sometimes I miss the money and the security. 

But that's it.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Trouble shooting and finding the root of failure, then, how to solve it, in a way that never happens, modifications, reporting errors to manufacturers or fix the problem by myself.
I have experience to solve the problems.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Untrained and careless people around me when I have to concentrate on something that is important.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Working area must be safe and clean and managed properly.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Received work package for the day and manage all necessary items for day.

Daily I deal with a multiple array of issues.
I have learned that working as a team is a key to success.
Internal management is very good and listen to you.
Co-workers are all friendly, ready to chip in and do what needs to be done to get the job completed.
The hardest part of my job is facing set backs for unforeseen reasons.
The most enjoyable part of my job is seeing a happy customer and excited employees at Rolls-Royce when product is delivered on time or early.

Very helpful for new engineer that has just finished university. Helps understand the general business of MRO sites.

After a year time, repetitive tasks feel less interesting. You need to move within the company in order to learn new stuff. 

Workplace culture: do it fast, make prevention processes after if there is time...quality not very present from an engineering perspective.

Depending on your department, you won't have time to do projects that you can use to grow as an engineer. Very few selected people have these opportunity given by management.

Largely independent work with limited direct supervision. Varied duties and responsibilities Helped transition company to ISO 9001 certification. Original company I started with was bought by Rolls-Royce. Management style  and procedures changed and authority became more distant. Some changes were needed, others became a hindrance.
Co-workers were dedicated and pleasant to work with. It was a relaxed environment and local management was approachable. 
Original company and product no longer exists. Workforce severely reduced.

Rolls Royce Civil Nuclear are aligned to the nuclear new build market for both the UK & Europe, in which they intend to provide primary island componants & in-service support.
The work i have undertaken is vared, summised below:
1. Tender for the provision of Vessels, CRDM, Heat Exchangers, Reactor Internals etc.
2. Develop quality processes, standards and templates
3. Created sub-system models for the next gen submarines
4. Assessing business opportunites within the commissioning market

Sadly, I was caught in one of the waves of layoffs due to downsizing, or I would likely still be working there.  Generally a good place to work, although poor management after 2015 resulted in a need to downsize considerably.  As part of a huge multi-national company, there was good emphasis on training and safety, excellent benefit packages, and extra paid holidays.

It was a great atmosphere to work in with great staff. A typical day would consist of working on overhauling cylinder heads, or winches, or any marine equipment, I learned a great amount about a large variety of marine equipment. The management and staff were fantastic! the hardest part of the job would be troubleshooting and problem solving for some issues while overhauling the equipment, but at the same time that was also the most enjoyable part.

Have had the good fortune of working with Yound & Elder in RR and working within other companies. Have found them welcoming of other U.K. mindsets from other parts of the nation. Being cloistered within the confines of Rolls Royce (RR) of certain makes one feel like a breathe-of-fresh-air when we lift our heads from our Duties hence building rapport within company circles is still a vital life-artery to contentment.

Started at the Montreal location in the early 90s.  Never thought that I would apply so much of what I learned in school at my workplace.  Aerospace often includes cutting-edge technology, so what better place to develop?  Many lateral opportunities to grow such as Green Belt/CI, auditing, working with many different departments, travel, etc.  Extremely happy that I had the opportunity to work here for 21 years.
