I have had a walker/sitter account with Rover for about two months. I have had, thus far, four inquiries. 
The first was a woman who wanted me to walk her dog every morning at 8AM, providing a 60 minute walk for the price of a 30 minute walk, with her accompanying me and chatting away. So a 50% discount off the top and personal companion services for free to boot. No days off until October. 
The second was a woman who contacted me at 10:30PM on a Thursday, asking that I go and dogsit at her house for 10 days starting the very next Saturday, to care for her 8-week-old puppy. For $250. 
The third was a woman who contacted me at 11:30PM on a Tuesday asking if I was free to sit her dog at my own home the very same night. 
The fourth was a woman who contacted me well in advance, to potentially care for her two dogs sometime in September. She detailed that one of the dogs is very fragile, “like a fabrege egg”, and that he requires baths twice daily, insulin shots twice daily, specific and unvarying meal times twice daily, and to be carried when necessary, among other things. Then she wondered how much of a discount I was prepared to offer off the standard Rover fee. 

I have been led, then, to wonder who in the hotdog these people are. 

I had a beautiful lab for 10 years and would never have dreamed of asking a total stranger to take care of him for the night on 20 minutes notice, to stiff my dog walkers, to leave him in the care of a stranger (much less let that person into my house on two days notice!!) WHEN HE WAS A BABY, to try to weasel a discount off standard, already low rates and an absurd amount of medical care completely free of charge. That woman emailed me back and forth at least 10 times and is still looking good for a cheaper price. Unreal. 

So until and unless I hear even one reasonable real life story in relation to this platform, I am going to assume that the kind of people who use it are just shady, irresponsible pet owners who don’t have any friends. 

Would not recommend.

I have been a 5 star sitter on Rover for years, made them lots of $. Active all through the spring and summer, over $2000 made this year alone. I have 18 raving reviews, i've been petsitting for 20 years, never had a negative review. Ever. 

Had an irate customer leave a bad review because they didn't like that they had to pick up their dogs from my house. I told the customer I would be more comfortable coming later in the day (it was a snowstorm early in the morning and 297 accidents happened!). They refused and insisted they come get the dogs. I did offer! The customer lied about several things in his review (and I have proof that they lied), they contacted rover to get the review taken down and Rover refused. 

The customers dogs damaged several things in my house-and their dogs had accidents every single day (despite walking them several times). I asked them to cover a portion of the damage, they refused, and Rover doesn't cover damages either-even though they claim to have insurance!

After all these years, Rover did not support me at all, they do not care about their service providers-they can see the proof that the review was a lie and they know I am a top provider. They would not make an exception and would not take the false review down.

I will NEVER use Rover again. It is pretty clear that they only care about their customers and not their service providers, because when you need help, you mean nothing to them. Don't ever work for them.

Love Rover, though the app is pretty bad to navigate properly. If you have animal care experience people will book with you. I made such high earnings over Christmas as a pet sitter, and with previous vet assisting experience I think it really helped me get traction. I’ve had majority good experiences but I highly recommend not taking first time clients. My only dog bite came from someone who needed a last minute sitter and they were pretty sketchy. Showed up and the poor dog was tied up all day and when approached after an hour of wasting my time at an unpaid meet and greet it lunged at me a ripped up my arm. This isn’t my experience as whole, BUT ITS A VERY REAL POSSIBILITY OF MEETING STRANGERS AND STRANGE DOGS. ROVER as a whole also takes huge part of profits so it’s best to build a client base and then book off the app. I prefer to take dog walking clients through the app as it’s only a dollar or two off of my total but for long-term stays they can take hundreds of dollars off of the bill and pocket it. 

I’ve been a Rover.com dog sitter for over 10 years. Rover has grown a lot and many more people are using the service which helps us as sitters. When I started with Rover I had limited knowledge and with time I’ve learned so much from my clients and their pets. I wish I had learned more directly from the company but there’s not much “training” other than their Blog. I had to teach myself how to use the Operating System to hopefully attract clients and I still don’t fully know 10 years later if I’m doing it right. Regardless, I still use the service because I have regular clients who I want to maintain and the Rover Guarantee which I’ve never had to use luckily, is a perk all of my clients love. It’s the reason I had originally signed up to Rover, I wanted to be protected and have the security that if anything happened to the pet I would be able to take them to the vet. 

I have thoroughly enjoyed my time working for Rover.com. As a university student who has a very strong love for animals, especially dogs, it was the perfect summer job for me. I learned how to communicate well with dog owners over text and in person, how to be a responsible and reliable caregiver, and how to deal with challenging dogs. I enjoyed being my own boss and schedule when I would be available to take care of the dogs. The hardest part of the job was taking on more than 4 dogs in my house at once, however it taught me a lot of skills I will use in the future. The most enjoyable part of the job was meeting new dogs and seeing how happy the owners were, knowing their dog was in a safe and happy environment.

With Rover clients come to you based off of their impression of your online profile. Dog owners will reach out to you through the app and ask about your availability and willingness to watch their dog for a specific time. Generally you're expected to arrange a meet and greet where you meet with the owner and their dog, ask questions and make sure its a good fit for everyone involved. Rover is extremely flexible as you only accept requests that fit your schedule and availability and as a dog boarder the clients pets stay in your home which is very convenient. Responsibilities include walking dogs a few times a day, feeding and general care of the pet, and checking in with the owner with regular photo updates.

This company is truly exceptional as it has allowed me to create my own schedule and allows you to interact with the amazing four legged furry friends of your neighbourhood. It is a lot of responsibility as a pet owner myself you must have trust and faith that the person coming into your home and interacting with your pet is going to be doing as they should not as they please. These furry pups are to many of us family so having someone who comes in and not only exceeds every expectation but builds a bond with your pet is what every pet owner wants. This is an amazing feeling to have helping animals who need to be let out or walked makes not only me feel good but everyone else involved.

Being a pet sitter/dog walker and drop in pet carer for rover has been a poor experience. I have worked through rover as a contractor since March 2022, during that time, I have been constantly messaged regardless of my distance and availability settings, have had poor support from Rover and as I am in Canada, had difficulty with paying taxes due to the contractual nature of the position. 
While it was beneficial while I was looking for a job, this company is no place for a career and in my opinion with the high rates they take out of your payment a rip off. They took such large percentages of my pay that it got to the point it was not worth it to work through them any more. 

I worked with Rover in the Chicagoland area for around 2 years. I really enjoyed learning about how to run a small business, and meeting so many amazing people and animals. The app is at times confusing to operate, though this was a minor inconvenience. Setting your own rates and hours is great, and the autonomy to provide services when and where you want can't be overstated. Rover did take 20% of my earnings, which I feel is a bit steep, though they do offer support to pet sitters if needed. Make sure you communicate honestly with owners your caregiving style, and trust your gut when taking on clients.

I started working with rover.com company a year ago as a dog walker and sitter. My passion about working in animal care industry develoved when I wanted to find find a job in animal care industry, which was quite complicated if you don't have enought adequate experience. However, then I found rover.com company and since that time I am working there as an independent Dog Walker/Sitter. Income you get is not sufficient to cover any real costs, but it is a great experience and nice opportunity to spend time and earn some extra money.
