Royal Alex Hospital

I am responsible for the updating and maintenance of all hospital drawings and blueprints, as well as numerous O&M Manuals and relevent information. I also provide information to contractors and act as a liason for various departments. Our managers are very supportive and provide excellent direction. The work place has a feeling of working with family. I look forward to coming to work everyday, as each day has its challanges which allows me to use the skills that I have learned while working here. My supervisor has given me free rein to develope my posistion and department as I see fit to create a space in which I am able to provide a service and information to the best of my abilites. My department is continuosly making changes to imporve and maintian the flow of imformation to the general public and contractors as required. I am able to work the hours I feel that are needed to keep my department operating at the most effecient manner, with a base day of 7.75 hours or as long as I feel is needed.

Being a porter at RAH has its challenges. During peak times 7 am - 8 pm it is busy and you will be walking a lot and it can be stressful. But if you have a good team working with you it will be entertaining and a little less work if everyone carries their weight. I get bored easily, but i found that there are so many different areas to work in everyday that it doesn't get boring

Make sure we had enough staff for the day and that the hospital was kept to the high standards. Learned to deal with so many different personalities which was the hardest part of the job and the most enjoyable part was the recognition from your peers.

I enjoyed the work and the management and my co workers were wonderful. I was a prep cook Line cook/ server also did the catering for functions on weekends. was great until they switched me back and forth between 2 hospitals and there were confusions in the scheduling.

I enjoyed my time at Royal Alex. Even though I worked in a volunteer capacity, I was not paid money; however, I was paid with an annual volunteer dinner and presentations. I made lots of friends and learned a lot from the staff.

With Alberta Health Services, every employee is a number. The Royal Alex can be stressful, but great co-workers make it manageable.  However, few units have great staff -- many are overworked and burned out.

Patients feel like the RAH is like a hotel. Lots of First Nation, homeless and low income patients. Nursing staff have to be very strict with words and actions or else these  persons will be little talk to you badly.

loved working there  because was just a casual for this position, there are times that I couldn't get enough hours so I will have to keep on phoning them, begging if they have extra shift to give for me.
