Schedules were often posted at the last minute, sometimes less than 24 hours before the start of the work week, making it difficult to plan ahead.
I observed communication differences in how some staff were addressed, particularly toward employees of East and South Asian backgrounds, which at times felt uncomfortable and inconsistent.
Opportunities for promotion were discussed with staff who were already performing higher-level tasks, but these opportunities were not always followed through in a clear or timely way.
There appeared to be limited understanding from store leadership regarding certain roles, while expectations for those roles remained high.
Team dynamics within management could be challenging. At times, assistant managers were not consistently supported, and performance concerns were occasionally discussed in front of non-management staff.
There were concerns about fairness and consistency in how policies were applied, including how time and breaks were handled among different employees.
I experienced or observed situations where certain employees felt singled out or pressured, which contributed to a stressful work environment.
Workplace cleanliness and hygiene standards were inconsistent in  areas such as the office.
High turnover among both management and staff impacted stability and continuity. During my time (nearly four years), there were multiple changes in leadership.
The physical condition of the building required attention, including maintenance issues such as leaks and potential pest entry points.
Staffing levels were often lean, which sometimes resulted in employees taking on multiple responsibilities beyond their role.
Advice to Upper Management
Consider increasing back-of-house staffing to better support day-to-day operations and reduce workload strain on existing employees.
Place greater emphasis on supporting staff through clear communication, fair expectations, and consistent leadership practices.
Evaluate the current management structure at this location to ensure it is effectively meeting team and operational needs.
Employee morale has declined compared to previous years, and addressing the above areas could help improve engagement and retention. 
The coworkers were a highlight diverse, approachable, and supportive once you got to know them.
The team included people from a wide range of backgrounds, which made for an engaging and welcoming environment.
Many colleagues were dependable and willing to help each other out, contributing to a sense of camaraderie.

Royal Distributing is an excellent place to work if you are looking for an in-between job or a part-time job as a student. The employees there are very friendly and will always attempt to aid their customers to the best of their abilities. 

Although you will develop a definite feeling of camaraderie with the other employees and even customers, if you are looking for a company within which you can grow, develop, and further your career you might be better served looking elsewhere. 

Royal Distributing has in the past overlooked their hardest working employees and failed to recognise the potential for growth within the company. Most of their strongest employees who seek to grow within the company are overlooked and don't stay.

During tent sales you may be expected to work long hours and will probably be asked to work over-time. This over-time is not scheduled but is offered at the last minute daily. 

Poor communication between the different departments  heads and management within the store has created a disconnect between the associates on the floor and those in the warehouse. Misunderstandings as to what their responsibilities towards each other are and how they are supposed to support each other to work as one cohesive team occur quite often.

I joined Royal Distributing approximately four months ago and I can truly say I am thrilled to be a member of the team. From day one I have felt welcomed by colleagues  and management.  I soon realized this was a fun place to work learning all about the exciting and unique power sport and leisure sports business.  This is a business where your opinion matters.  RD management encourages all members of our team to think outside of box, reviewing our everyday business practices, product mix, social media, merchandising programs and competition with the sole purpose of improving our customers experience.  Day to day communication at all levels of the company is encouraged and welcomed as it rare to see a closed door.  
The most enjoyable moments for me that I have experienced is that no body is too busy to help one another and with a positive attitude and smile.  
A perk that myself and all employees have experienced is that almost weekly we  will receive an e-mail from management offering a number of free tickets to a sporting event...how cool is that! Being in the Power Sports business this opens up a whole new experience for our family's enjoyment. 



I never gotten into Power Sports until I got hired here. It gave me that interest to learn and try the hobby myself after working here. Aside from the hobby, it was a fun place to work at for the past few years. Managements at the time were great, very accommodating, especially with scheduling which they're really flexible with. Fellow staffs were great to work with, always having those fun conversations, very helpful if you needed assistance or had any questions about your job. The people that had been there the longest were great mentors towards me and helped me gained the knowledge of almost everything that they've sold (aside from parts) on the sales floor. Even if you had that passion for this type hobby, I spent most of my time outside of work (when I was bored) to learn more about the fitment of helmets, pants, jackets, along with features each provide. You learn something new everyday. Also being given that opportunity to build bikes during the spring/summer time were fun. Your day does go by fairly quickly when it's busy, especially during their big event sales they got.

I was so excited to start and from the moment I got there I was met with weird attitudes. Management is a joke- they almost get offended when you call in if you don’t feel well (don’t forget they aren’t even having to pay you while you’re out sick) and they guilt you once you’re back. The insane dual job training helps them obviously but absolutely stresses everyone else! They’ll hire you for one role and by the end you’ll be doing 8 roles for the pay of 1! As a man, I’ve seen disgusting behaviour from other male staff and find it disgusting management doesn’t say anything. Even if you bring it up to them they’ll thank you for mentioning it and then never say anything to anyone about your worries of a certain person. I’m disgusted that so much is looked over. They tell you they have core values and respect their staff but I don’t really believe that. I’ve seen over 10 people leave in my time there! If you want to have a quick burnout from being over trained and treated with no care then this is the place for you. Some management is nice but the majority don’t actually care about you. I’m glad I left when I did.

The culture of the business should provide for a fun friendly work environment however the micromanagement throughout the workplace creates a very stressful and negative atmosphere. 

Too much is expected for too little a salary.  

The business continues to be run as if it were a small mom and pop shop even though it has grown to be almost 300 employees in size.

Policies need to be adjusted and a proper HR and health and safety department needs to be put in place to reflect the size of the company.

Most of the staff is amazing however there are a few individuals that are absolutely horrific to deal with.

I enjoyed my time here but I do no recommend it to anybody who seeks work life balance or to any young females as the HR department is non existent and the environment can be hostile at times depending on who you are dealing with.

Typical Day at Work?...keeping myself busy doing expected jobs as per my supervisor, while providing customer service, and continuing to find jobs such as tagging, pricing, sizing, throughout the day to keep busy and benefit my time

What i have learned?...to encourage positivity and fun in the work environment, while continuing to learn skills and knowledge ensuring the customers leave with a safe and durable product.

Management?...not impressed..Verbal Harrassement is ongoing daily
My Co-Workers?...on the sales floor are fun and approachable, but other associated are mean and rude to the other staff.

Hardest part of the job?...is being mistreated by the manager and her son thru verbal harrassement and feeling unappreciated.

Everyone was pleasant. My coworkers were nice. 
They hire a lot of young people, which is great. Unfortunately, they take a paternalistic attitude toward staff, including lunchbox inspections at the end of every shift. I received a lecture on pen allocation, when I went looking for a pen, while serving a customer. 
Training is minimal. 
Anyone with any warehouse experience will find the state of the warehouse to be frustrating. 
A nine and a half hour shift comes with the only the legally mandated minimum breaks, with a clock out/in for lunch. 
They have a high staff turn-over, which is unsurprising. 

Customers can be great. Claim pay is competitive but it is not. They do not care how often you work, how much overtime is put in, very little movement with pay, although not asked for, hard workers should be rewarded, not have to find out people who have recently be hired to do half the amount of work get paid more an hour??? 
 No advancements, unless you count cross training in order to further stress the employees out. There is too much pressure on employees for a retail environment. Not a very well run business at the Guelph store at least, office and other stores seem well as far as I know. Set up of the store is bad and doesn't allow for longer lines and easy movement in the store with carts and other movement equipment required to be used.

Coming into royal I was excited due to the good rep the company has but unfortunately besides the coworkers (even then) my excitement left pretty quickly. Though the job itself isn’t super hard, it more frustrates you due to lack of communication with management, lazy co workers, and unorganized. They expect a lot from you even though they won’t raise your wage. Management blames you when something goes wrong even though the person who trained you started a month prior to your hire. Coworkers are the only benefit to this job, and if you’re looking for an active job which I enjoyed. Beware it’s super hot, and if you’re planning on booking time off, do it months in advance or youll be out of luck
