The system that VIHA Volunteer Services has created is highly recommended to anyone who wants to fill the need of giving back. This is a well organized, flexible, friendly environment with a lot of passion.

The coordinator was friendly, respectful, helpful and assisted with all and any questions you had. There was a freedom to give back to your community with structure based on respectful representation.

There was a screening process as a first step. If you passed, you were able to explore possible options of what suited you and the clientele at the VIHA site. Most all positions were there to complete a positive part in someone's day in the time slot arranged

My role did not limit my capacity to explore. I was interviewing, screening, and meeting all types of applicants with all types of backgrounds. This role also entailed data entry and communications/feedback with the coordinator.

My day requires booking of all inpatients for an echocardiography test - booked in order of my discerning priority of patient needs and importance combined with doctors recommendations.  My co-workers arrive later than I do but provide we work as a great team.  I also do a lot of cardiology transcription thoroughly recording all echocardiogram data/measurements and the cardiologists interpretations of the results and measurements.
The most difficult part of this job is that we are not supported well by our management or supervisory staff.  We do a lot of over-our-head problem solving due to lack of their involvement.  Not a supportive work enviroment.  
The most enjoyable part of my job is doing something over and above for a patient and delighting in doing it to make his/her hospital stay easier and more comfortable.

I really enjoyed working at the Royal Jubilee Hospital. Nursing staff on my ward were like my second family, very supportive and fun to work with. 
     I worked well with my co-workers in the housekeeping dept.,very reliable hardworking dependable individuals.
    The management was positive and instructive. My last Supervisor regularly treated us to coffee and doughnuts muffins & pizza to reward us for our continuous hard work and for passing our audits.

A typical day consists of ordering and testing biological specimens for infectious diseases. Pathology lab provides a hands on experience, as well as an opportunity to communicate to pathologists and gain a better understanding of the human body. Microbiology lab also enables one to have a hands on experience, however unlike the direct observation of the tissues in pathology, the biological samples are processed and planted on selective media to identify bacterial growth. Being a part of these teams and being surrounded by a sea of knowledge allows one to truly expand an understanding of the world around them.

Volunteering on the renal unit has been an enjoyable experience.  I have met many great patients who I genuinely enjoy talking to.  There are not many tasks to be done, as I have no medical qualifications, so most of my time on the unit is spent talking with patients, restocking blankets, or getting patients water.  The hardest part of my shift is once everyone has settled in and are content watching TV.  With all supplies that I am qualified to touch restocked, there are not a lot of activities to do.  The best part of the job is knowing that you are helping patients be comfortable, such as when they have their bed made for them.

Very busy days!  Loved my shifts in the ER as there was a variety of jobs you could do there.  Data entry, reading requisitions, and lots of phlebotomy!  
Didn't get to use my ecg skills though and being in the hospital made for a lot of negativity.  Lots of grumbling so hard to do your job proficiently.  Everyone had their job to do and not a lot of people like to go over and beyond expectations. 
I loved being busy though and the shift went very quickly.

What is the best part of working at the company?
I was awlawfully fired because my person i was paired with was smoking pot at her breaks . I wasnt. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Working for Crothal. They are unfair to employees.  I didnt have a chance to defend myself

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
I liked it a lot. I actually want my job back , since I've cleared my name . They won't give it back

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Hard work. Little fun. Great staff. Cleaning

Most of my time i worked with a 3-4 group of people on boilers that needed to be restored. I learned a lot about the tools and job culture of a maintenance worker. We also did daily rounds of the entire hospital. This was very beneficial because I got too see a lot of equipment and machinery that a huge building needed to operate and be managed.

It's busy all the time. Makes no room for mistake because you're dealing with LIFE, each has different diets and allergies. So you gotta be efficient and take your work seriously. On the other side, it makes you appreciate life more and makes you wanna take care of yourself even better and just be thankful for little things.

I really enjoy my job, the co workers are nice for the most part (some nurses are otherwise) but other than that i love it i just wish they had another system of employees because im casual and dont get many shifts but id love to be part time or something other than that its great
