Ruth & Naomi’s Mission carries out genuinely meaningful, high-impact work in service of vulnerable populations, and the strength of the organization is most evident at the front lines and middle-management level. Many operational and recovery-focused managers are competent, deeply committed, and highly invested in client outcomes, while front-line staff consistently demonstrate dedication and resilience despite operating within constrained systems and limited structural support. Across the organization, there is a clear sense of goodwill and values-driven intent, with leadership generally motivated by a sincere desire to serve the mission and community.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Leadership at the organization is highly centralized and siloed, with most decision-making occurring at the director level and limited mechanisms for cross-functional collaboration or meaningful upward feedback. While formal management frameworks such as EOS and tools like Ninety are referenced, their use tends to be superficial, creating the appearance of structure without being meaningfully integrated into daily operations or accountability practices. Role clarity is inconsistent, with responsibilities, authority, and priorities often shifting without explicit discussion or alignment. As a result, initiatives aimed at improving systems, data quality, internal controls, or operational efficiency are frequently deprioritized or implicitly discouraged. This dynamic contributes to a chronically reactive operating environment, where urgent issues and short-term “firefighting” crowd out planning, capacity-building, and disciplined execution. Many people are in their roles not due to standardized competence verification / hard skills / accreditation, but rather because of social and work relationships within the Christian community / referrals. "Quick n dirty" and "good enough" are the name of the game at Ruth & Naomi's mission, to the serious detriment of the organization's long term mission and needs. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The senior leadership culture is characterized by uneven professional standards, where some directors operate without strong technical competence, formal accreditation, or operational rigor, yet expect deference based primarily on positional authority rather than demonstrated expertise. This dynamic reinforces a “go along to get along” environment in which raising legitimate risks, gaps, or improvement ideas is often perceived as disruptive or disloyal, discouraging candor and problem-solving. Information and decision-making are tightly controlled through gatekeeping behaviors, with key stakeholders who work together daily—such as Finance, HR, and Operations—frequently excluded from essential coordination and planning forums. As a result, significant operational, financial, and data security risks may remain unaddressed unless explicitly initiated by directors, fostering a form of institutional risk blindness. Management titles are often misaligned with actual authority and scope, with ostensibly strategic roles functioning in practice as transactional or clerical positions without the support or empowerment needed to drive change. In this environment, capable professionals hired to introduce structure, controls, and modernization face elevated turnover risk, as efforts to raise standards are reframed as “poor culture fit” rather than evaluated on performance or organizational impact.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
The day-to-day culture is largely reactive and crisis-driven, with much of each day consumed by urgent, high-stakes issues that arise from weak planning, unclear ownership, and limited process discipline. This is punctuated by formal meetings that create the appearance of order and alignment, even as underlying operational chaos remains unresolved. In these forums, genuine accomplishments by hardworking front-line staff and capable middle managers are often acknowledged: achievements that occur despite, rather than because of, senior leadership systems and direction. Outside of these moments, employees operate in a high-stress, high-turnover environment marked by uncertainty and a persistent sense of caution, where staff are conscious that raising concerns or falling behind amid constant interruptions carries personal risk. New tasks and emergencies are routinely added without regard for existing workloads or priorities, and there is little appetite for adopting structured approaches to time management, task planning, or accountability. As a result, employees are deeply motivated by the mission and the impact of the work itself, yet simultaneously demoralized by leadership practices that normalize disorder and undermine sustainability.

The board of directors neglects the needs of clients and employees.
There was a huge lack of stable, long term, management. Often times, employees would assume responsibilities as each shift is understaffed and under supported.
Complaints to HR are not investigated in a timely manner, if at all. 
Unfortunately, some employees would engage in relationships with clients that did not fit within the appropriate professional boundaries given when hired. 
I would only hope Ruth and Naomi’s Mission has grown and continued to develop a safer environment for both employees and clients.
The company’s mission statement is admirable! One can only hope they are actively trying to fulfill such mission statement.

The best part is working with and seeing the clients and getting to know each one and meeting them where there at and trying to make a difference

Staff and management of your to nice to the clients you get fired they don’t want to see them moving forward

It sucks , hostile arrogant staff and management

Go go go and go no thank you from staff or higher ups long hours the more you give the more they take advantage with no thanks or anything

Management was horrible and this is the worst agency I have worked for in over 25 years of working in this field

The management and their organization skills 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It is not good at all they are not client focused and will not let you help with moving clients ahead 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
It was chaos and people not showing up to work and never enough staff

Terrible company to work for, best part of a shift was the time spent with clientele. Management was a complete joke, they only care about stuffing their pockets with non-profit dollars! Employees were regularly assigned dangerous job tasks, and under-staffed, to the point of being hazardous for themselves and the clients. Turn-over is the highest I have ever seen in any job sector, management regularly hired under-trained staff just to have bodies in the building.

Only the people we help. They are what matter. Their wants, needs, struggles, goals

Judgemental, rude, back stabbing, not run in a christian way at all. Or actually in a christian way, scam

Very toxic, no culture at all. Only god

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Exhuasting. Draining. Defeated

Used to love my job, but then new management, and it all went downhill. Management does not care about the safety of the workers, along with the stress - made it where I hated going to work every day. Tried to speak to managers about it - but they seem to pick favorites - and you can't trust anyone there - a lot of gossip. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
Working with the clients was good but the management at the time was terrible and many of us left. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Poor management. Not available when needed, giving confusing instructions to clients and staff making the clients very hostile and a dangerous work environment.

I personally recommend this job if your personality is a loving and caring by nature and want to generally help people 
The personal feeling that you get when you can provide somebody with something that they don't have and really need. It's a great feeling.

Extremely toxic staff culture, managers rarely last more than a few months and each one is somehow worse than the last. Terrible job security, many full time staff had to wait up to several years for benefits to kick in, HR is a rotating door, and be prepared for monthly letters from work safe BC.
