i have been here for just under a year. They hire and fire people who are on contract and have to have a ratio of full time/part time people. This means if they already have the full amount of full time hires, the contracted people will NEVER get hired on as full time until a contract renewal AFTER the 6months so your looking at close to a year before you get full time status, and this is based off of attrition, so you will ONLY gain full time if the contracted people get fired or quit, so even after 6months to a year, you can potentially still be on contract.

Company goes through 3 different  receptionists as well. Every 6-8weeks their is a new person
 
SENIORITY- doesn't exists. New people can get full time based on company needs.

The company frowns upon people making interactions on the floor as well.  you can work allay and if you talk or make interaction with someone, your penalized and management doesn't take it lightly.

VACATION- You are unable to request vacation time off. They have mandatory plant shutdowns for a week. They then use your accumulated vacation time and pay you that during their plant shutdown. This means you are obligated to take it at that time and are unable to request time off. You are NOT allowed to choose any vacation. you are forced to take it during shutdown.

SAFETY-This place itself is a hazard with their old machines.

MANAGEMENT- Not great. Don't come from any type of firearm background.

PEOPLE- Older tenure people hate it when you work faster and harder than them. All others are great and friendly!

OVERTIME- OT EVERY day/week. YOU ARE REQUIRED TO DO ALL OVERTIME to get a bonus.

OVERVIEW- It's an easy work place if you want to make a quick 15 an hour. just manufacturing work, nothing special.
 You won't retire here or make any good money. Working 6 days is encouraged.

Conclusion: place is very saturated, hot and dirty. sub par pay and unrealistic hourly quotas and bad management in general. 

It's not a place you want to be for the long haul. it's a time placer or a quick job till you find something that pays more.

 




I did enjoy my time working for Savage Arms Canada. I worked there for just under 3 years and advanced to 2 different positions beginning at entry level with no schooling to jobs in the warehouse and office. Management recognized my ability to grow and become an asset to the company. I will always be extremely grateful for the experiences and knowledge I gained from my time there. 
With any job there is pros and cons, Savage Arms was no exception. Communication and planning ahead were perhaps the biggest cons for me along with management moods setting the tone for the whole building. Majority of the staff are gossipers too so sometimes you'd learn new things about yourself. As stated above, a big pro for me was the ability for growth. I also was provided with company paid education. 
The work-life balance in specifically my position was good sometimes, it was typically a 8.5-9.5 hour day (unpaid lunch break) depending on what was going on. It wasn't expected of you to work over 8 hours but it was necessary for the work to get done and meet your goals for the quarter.

Overall I would say Savage Arms was a great place to work for me and I am better from my experience there. 

so i worked here in 2014 for 5 to 7 months approximatly. Ran 2 different stations and exceded daily quota. Then they were give a multi million dollar grant to expand, then they lay off ppl. I never was called back, was quite upsetting as i was an over acheiver. Didnt matter tho i must have been lost in paper work. Approx 3 weeks ago 6 years later i was re hired. Worked a week moving around different stations learning. Then i was put to an 8 hr straight sitting and being hunched over doing triggers. I stuck it out for 4 to 5 days and mentioned very nicely  anyway i could be moved to a station that i wouldnt be sitting all shift, as it is pretty much the only station your sitting in. I was in an accident years ago its rough for me to sit that long and neck hunched over. 20 mins later called into H.R fired. I gave savage a 2nd chance as they never called me back years ago. They really gave it to me this time. They should be ashamed of themselves. Spread the word. Ive alteady sold 2 of there products that i owned. Terrible company. This really upset me. I will be in contact with other parties regarding what happened here. I worked 9 days. They let me go on a friday very rudly and unprofessionaly.

A typical day for me was 8 hours of grinding steel and ensuring that order cards were placed with the appropriate bins of receivers/carts of barrels. The management was 50/50, half of the supervisors deserved their position, and half of them received the promotion due to personal connections (ie. a friend of a friend). My co-workers who were full-time were hard working people who took pride in their job, the part-time employees were hired for the summer or on contract and in general were unmotivated, unfocused workers who harmed the quality of our product. The hardest part of the job was the repetition of doing the same thing every day for 8 hours, and the most enjoyable was seeing the finished product and taking pride in knowing that I did a good job.

Dangerous and unsafe working conditions concerning firearms safety and handling of dangerous tools. Contract workers are relied on for the majority of work except ciritcal roles but are treated as less than and expected to do as much as the far more experienced workers. Job will vary everyday as will the standards expected of you. Too much focus on pumping out product to meet quotas and no attention given to morale. I would highly recommend not working here if you truly enjoy/respect firearms, the disrespect and lack of quality put into these weapons hurt my soul.

Worked on a set schedule other than when the occasional overtime came available.  Learned to operate multiple types of machinery, the importance of quality control as well as the final auditors position.  Pretty well everyone on shift got along, if they didn't the individuals would keep it to themselves. Hardest part of the job was change over to a product that wasn't manufactured on a regular basis.  Most enjoyable part of the job was the co-workers and know what the expectations were for each day.  Everyone worked to a common goal and worked well together

Pay is decent. Incentives and bonus perks with employment. Perfect for anyone looking to further their knowledge of rifles and or seeking their PAL license. Job security is not there due to the up and down demands for product based on gun policies and nature of government politics both Canada & USA. Highly recommended position for students looking for good paying contract work. Work ethic and punctuality are extremely important for ongoing employment and advancement.

Savage Arms is a great place to work. It is fast-paced but management takes all the precautions they need to ensure everybody's safety while maintaining efficiency. 

It feels like everyone is family when working for Savage. There are plenty of employee incentives to keep up moral.

During the summer it can be difficult to work in the heat, but there are plenty of heat breaks to avoid being over heated. The factory can also get quite loud with machines, but there is safety equipment to aid with that.

If you do your job well, the organization can put you in a good position to benefit your goals. I've been part of a great community that values hard work. I was always pushed to do great things and enjoyed the service they provide. It can be a job that you are proud of but the income was very discretionary among employees due to individuals making more than they contributed to the company.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Hot lunch before each holiday was nice. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Stressing on keeping up with the numbers. But at the end of the day it doesn’t matter. It’s who has been there longer keeps the job even if they don’t meet the requirements of the job posting. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very lazy, joke, the office staff think they know what it’s like on the florr. But have no idea. Toxic environment
