A typical day at work was answering phone calls and emails, counting product and entering counts into a spreadsheet and order accordingly, and most importantly was communicate within the purchasing department and outside departments.

I learned many things while working there the the most beneficial was the minor excel and outlook skills I have and proper work etiquette and paying attention to detail.

Management was easy to communicate and i felt they made me and my fellow colleagues feel more like a team. The most important quality i found was the up front communication they had.

The hardest part I would say was the constant searching of items material handlers put away in the wrong locations.

The most enjoyable part was ordering for future houses and special projects.

This can be a great place to work. They are eager to train you in all areas of construction. Management really appreciates hard workers who take pride in their work. They pay is top-rate for construction work in Lethbridge. The benefits are amazing - paid time off, health and dental, paid compassionate leave, paid training /  certification  courses, discounts on materials, etc.

There are two main  problems with this employer. The first is layoffs. Layoffs happen for at least a couple of weeks every year, but some years you may be laid off for 6 months or more. The second problem is the union. The union will keep you from advancing quickly, because the union prefers seniority over skill, talent, ability, work ethic, merit, etc.  Also, the union protects a lot of lazy, incompetent employees. You will be expected to do those employees work for them.

In my unfortunately short 2 years with SRI Homes I can say nothing bad about working there when taking into consideration other places that I have been employed. Great Benefits the ability to expand your knowledge and learn anything from framing to plumbing to even electrical with no prior schooling, so its a great chance to try your hand at a trade before you spend money on going to school for it. But unfortunately the available work depends heavily on the current market which has led to a lay-off situation. that being said if the market where to pick up again in the near future I would recommend this place to anyone seeking an entry into the general field of trades.

During my time with SRI I learned different, and normally unused techniques for electrical. The pay is fair, and after three months of probation you are eligible for union benefits. The work is very run of the mill and fast paced. My leaving was related to the management. I was promised a sponsorship during my initial interview then was later told it was impossible. After that management tried to move me to a different sub-trade. I had gone to SRI only to advance my electrical knowledge and was no longer able to.

A typical day for me would be to assemble the floors of the modular units that we construct. I have learned how to read basic construction blueprints, some plumbing installation as well as some drywall application.I sometimes struggle with the top down style of management and a system that allows for some to not put in an honest days effort while others work to the best of their abilities.

The hardest part of the job is not  being rewarded for efforts above and beyond the job requirements. The most enjoyable part is doing my job to the best of my abilities.

u walk in and wait for start time then meeting then head to work station but most belittle u if not from their country and harass u into leaving and if u say anything to supervisor it gets turned on u not the person and says it is hear say and i trust them more because they have been here longer. i learned to build walls and cabinets, u are lucky too have 10 Canadians the rest or immigrants and so have expired visas and say they not leaving. the hardest part is no one really trains others unless u are from their country.

Deadlines are no joke....
Hard physical labour at times

I found the employees friendly and willing to lend hand when needed

The multitude of different stages was great! Learned a lot!

Getting a patio door dropped on my head!

No comment . I can’t. Shouldn’t.

Busy. A lot to do! Good if you like to be busy.

lost of people that just slack lots of good people that work their but a lot of people make funny of you behind your back talk a lot of unprofessional from the management...union is a bunch of load unprofessional they do a lot of hiring you get into the union and then the give u a job for 6 to 8 months then out the door on the next bunch of people they see fit

You're not going to see anything outside the norm at SRI. 5S management plan, job security after probation, good pay after two years, and opportunity for untrained employees to learn construction and potential red seal certification if they're in the right department. 
SRI is a production plant. You aren't building multi-million dollar houses, you are meeting construction standards and moving on to the next house.
