The hardest part of the job is adjusting to new centers or classrooms on short notice, but it’s also a great opportunity to gain diverse experience. The most enjoyable part is building relationships with children and educators, knowing you’re contributing to their growth and learning.

My position in this company and what I was responsible for at the time was covering various ECE shifts at different centres all over the GTA. I worked with various age groups from infants to at the oldest school-aged children. This position required alot of physicality and running around, as well as alot of patience. Therefore i believe that those were the job challenges. As well, each centre and centre supervisor was different, meaning the way they operated and the policies put in place so I learned to quickly adjust to my surroundings, which was at times challenging. The most enjoyable part of this job was just interacting and developing and strengthening meaningful relationships with children, which is why I got into this field.

Working with Sentient HR was an amazing experience. Each day I had the chance to go to different childcare centres, which made every shift feel new and exciting. A typical day at work involved supporting staff, engaging with children, and adapting quickly to new environments. I learned valuable skills in flexibility, time management, and building positive relationships with children and educators. Management was supportive and always available to guide me when needed. The workplace culture promoted teamwork, growth, and professionalism. The hardest part of the job was adjusting quickly to different centres and routines, but this also helped me grow the most. The most enjoyable part was the variety—meeting new people, working with children, and learning something new every day.

What is the best part of working at the company?
They do not value or respect their staff. Communication is unprofessional—there’s a clear lack of basic manners and respect on the phone, even in urgent situations. They expect a high level of effort, commitment, and reliability from you, yet fail to offer the same in return. Employees are given the bare minimum while being treated poorly.

Even when you’re unwell and can barely speak, they respond with impatience, rudeness, and raised voices instead of understanding. There is little to no appreciation for the people who are actually putting in the work on the front lines, while management remains disconnected in the office. Overall, it’s an environment where respect, support, and recognition are seriously lacking.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Everything this job requires more then it tells

PROS 
- Great starter job for students in ECE program who are in school or graduating. 
- There were some opportunities to attend workshops for professional development , information about quality programming, and first aid courses

CONS
- low pay 
- required to work a certain amount of hours which can be difficult to do if you are in school 
- very difficult to get time off to go on vacation, despite being a casual/on-call position 
- they do not provide references if you want a more stable position

What is the best part of working at the company?
It's good,  it's good experience on resume. The flexibility of shifts depends on my hand if I want to accept or not

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
I wish the centres would show shifts near and at least one day In advance. The pay is low and the shift can be unexpected 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It depends on the center. Sometimes the people are nice but sometimes the people can be rude. I once encountered staff being racist towards me sm and passing inappropriate comments but a lot of the times staff is very pleasant 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
It depends on the centre I'm going to. But basically traveling a lot to reach and then following their transitions

What is the best part of working at the company?
Being able to work with lots of daycares and getting lots of experience in the Field

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Shifts that are last minute and don’t give to time to prepare for the hours needed

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
From my experience there will always be people you get along with and people you don’t, staff, parents or children 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
It has its good moments like playing with the kids or talking with a staff member who understand how stressful a supply can be sometimes. But it also has stressful times when children don’t listen
